Fun for the Whole Family!
"In Grandma's Attic" is one of the best character-building books I have come across. These humorous short stories convey history, family life, and lessons learned in such a delightful way. Reminds me of the "Little House" books, but with a greater spiritual emphasis. So glad we were introduced to this series through "Five in a Row" by Jane Claire Lambert, who recommends it be read in conjunction with "The Rag Coat" by Lauren Mills.
Out with the Fluff!
If you are tired of all those books full of "fluff" with no real moral, look no further than the book-In Grandma's Attic! Little stories fill the pages of this delightful book that not only teach character, but have you on the floor laughing. I join Mable and her friend Sarah Jane as they find themselves in one scrape after another! In the end though there is always a repentive spirit and a desire to do better next time temptation pops up. Every story starts out with a little girl asking her grandma about something she saw or discovered that day, while visiting at her grandmother's house. The question triggers a story from grandma that relates to what she was asked about and so starts another humorous tale of the good old days! The whole series of these books is well worth reading. I didn't read them all at once, but over a period of time. Because as Mable grows so does her vocaulary and the stories get harder for young children to relate to. Wonderful read aloud books!
This is a great series!
I read the "Grandma's Attic " books when I was younger and loved them. I recently went back and read them again, and they were just as enjoyable the second time around! The stories are realistic, humorous, and just fun to read. They make the adventures of Sarah Jane and Mabel seem real, and you get to know the characters and their personalities. Each story teaches a lesson or moral, and most have quotes from the Bible. I really enjoyed these books, and I think that most young girls will, too!

Great book!
I loved this book! It was very humorous and up-lifting. It is about 16-year-old Mabel and her best friend Sarah Jane as they go through their first year of College. They learn many valuable lessons about friendship and kindness. Find out how Mabel becomes friends with her enemy Clarice and if she asks the most popular boy in the school to the first presentation of the year by reading this book. I recommend this book book because it is an easy and fun book to read.

The Grandma's Attic Storybook
This is an excellent book describing how it was long ago. It is both fascinating to the adult reader and the listening children alike. It teaches many lessons on how we should act and react to people. My children beg for more stories from this book and they sit very quietly and listen and imagine the details as I read on. I feel it is a must in every household and is appropriate for both boys and girls.

Yesterday's stories are today's treasures
I don't know of anyone alive who can tell the stories Arleta Richerdson does! I am facinated with the stories of growing up at the turn of the century -- tales from one hundred years ago. Girls of ALL ages will enjoy this book!

Amazing Children's Book
Arleta Richardson captures the truly unique essence of her grandmother's stories. The stories are incredibly entertaining and still present a moral lesson that is invaluable today. I first read this whole series when I was a little girl, and I read them today as a college student, and I plan on passing them onto my little girl one day.

A Delightful Story of Simple Trust in God
A very delightful and touching story portraying the hopes and aspirations of a group of orphans in their search for a happy home. The story reflects the simplicity of children and their trusting nature in the lives of these orphans. The story also exposes the harsh realities of this world through the thoughts, motives and attitudes of the various adults in wanting to adopt them.
What impresses me most is the trust of the children in God in spite of all the difficulties and their readiness to face the challenges in life because they are confident that God will be their helper.
An interesting and easy to read story and one that I did not find easy to put down the moment I started reading because I was curious to know the outcome of the children in the various homes that adopted them. Children will enjoy this book. So will adults.

Good children's history of the orphan train.
This book is written for children. It is very readable for children. The story is easy to follow. It is a great book for teaching children about the orphan train with a Christian perspective. "Ethan", the main character, was my grandfather. Richardson does a great job of fictionalizing his life.
Outstanding
Actually, I read the story in the Sacramento Bee as a serialized story. It was in the paper every Mon thru Fri for a total of 21 days and I found it difficult to wait a day for the next chapter, weekends were even worse. I cried with sorrow during some of the reading and laughed with joy at other times. Marvin Wilsey

Excellent... a lot like the Anne of Green Gables series
This book focuses on Mabel, a grandmother now who is raising her own granddaughter. She tells the funniest stories from her own life on a farm in early America. Quite clumsy and full of mischief she and her friend and two brothers learn the hard lessons of life through laughter, sorrow and getting in trouble with each chapter. As she matures, her father and mother instill moral values along the way. However, much like Anne of Green Gables her young spirit full of life never leaves her a moment of rest.
