Grossly overpriced!
The information in the book is typical - nothing new - You can get other books for one-fourth of the price. May I recommend, "Roughing it Easy","Cooking with Home Storage", or any Amish cookbook? There are a lot of books with more information out there. If this book were less expensive, I would not have expected so much. Very disappointing! I would never recommend it.

detailed, creative and easy to follow directions
I have stocked my shelves for any catastrophe that might come our way. I knew our family would not starve but was beginning to be concerned about how I was going to put together easy and tasty meals from a can. How was I going to bake or cook them, too? The Reid's book has taken the guesswork out of the mealplanning. What a much needed book in these times we may face! I have made the oven box following the simple instructions - you are a genius, Chuck! We had a great time doing it, too. My kids are amazed that we can bake a meal - if we have to- in a cardborad box!

An easy reading, practical disaster food planning guide
We have this book and have read it and used it. It is an easy reading and practical book that gets you ready for disaster situations. After having our home severely damaged in two California earthquakes, we appreciate the step-by-step instructions on setting up a disaster food pantry with nutritious foods we can use (not camping freeze dried fare) and can rotate through our normal food planning. And you get the recipes for using the food to boot! We also made our cardboard oven and cooked in it, and it works! It's a great family project and will put your kids at ease knowing you are good scouts and well prepared!

Pretty Darned Funny
I picked this up on a whim at my local library. This is some pretty funny and surreal stuff-what comics are supposed to be about. It has a style that harkens back to the early days of comic strips where there were less hardfast rules. Forget about Dilbert and Garfield and especially the wretched Sally Forth and try and find a copy of Reid Fleming.

Rome in 2nd Edition D&D
This is a supplement for 2nd edition D&D that covers the historical period of the Roman empire and translates roman myths and folklore into D&D terms.

It provides a good timeline for the empire, an okay section on roman adventures and the roman world, but the great section is the 2nd edition class and kit write ups. It provides for political soldiers, gladiators, oratory before the Senate, street thugs in the capitol city, witches, and priests for all the ectsasy cults and Roman gods. It is set in a low magic background as are all the historical settings but the magical details are great including the three witch spells it includes (dream curses, love charms and protective amulets).

The Meaning of Company Accounts Reid & Myddelton
I am using this book as reading material for an MBA. I felt it could explore the deaper meaning of ratio analysis and its relevance within more industries. The size looks unitidy in my bookcase. But the soft cover certainly brought the price down and it hs proved invaluable as I have very little in the way of accounting knowledge.

Back In Form !!!!!
Yep after months and months of ranting and criticizing that the red book publishers (Wrox) have lost their magic touch, just when we were about to give up on them, they return with an outstanding book, probably one of the best in their Beginning series ever, and coming back in form in such style, this is simply unbelievable - Beginning C# is all I needed.
Working as a developer in ASP for over 3 years now, but never actually having tried my hands in a real hardcore programming language, I bought EACH AND EVERY book on C# being published since the past one year, but couldn't get past the 40th page of any of the books, they were designed for hardcore programmers and for a moment I wondered if Microsoft and other authors were leaving pure ASP programmers down the drain.
Beginning C# is the answer to all the prayers if you've faced the same delima as I have.
First the drawbacks.
Someone at wrox has decided that publishing a book less than 1000pages is a crime.so I guess I can let go of that. This book has 1031 pages.
Having multiple authors at times irritatingly breaks the smooth flow of explanations from chapter to chapter. GDI+ may be understanding enough as a chapter but the manner of explanations and approach to "try it out" examples is suffocating, irritating and makes you want to tear the entire chapter out of the book.
Also some examples are NOT WORKING and THIS CAN GET YOU FRUSTRATED, so be WARNED.
The plus points.
25 chapters, precise to the point, length of each chapter kept under 25 to 30 pages. Basic aim of each chapter is to explain the topic and right away get your hands dirty with examples. Each example explained step by step.
OOP being an integral part of C# comes only on Ch#8 after you have grown sufficiently confident enough to open Visual Studio and write basic programs for Windows/Web.
This according to me is a very intelligent planning of chapters and hence non of the chapters come across as speaking to you in a foriegn language or in a manner of saying that "sorry if you don't understand us , you are an idiot"....
This book can be held at the same high teaching standards set by Beginning ASPDatabases/Beginning ASP/Beginning JavaScript.

The only other book which even comes close to this is C# By Herb Schildt. Which is another exceptionally good book for beginners, though it does not touch the wide range of topics as Beg.C#
With this book Wrox is back in form.
Simply put... An Amazing Achievement....

Great book, highly recommended
Wanting to move up to a more sophisticated WEB language (from ASP,VB) I've bought quite a few books on .Net and C#. However, all of them left me with a lot of questions on how to just get started with the language.

This book solves all those problems. Anyone new to C# or just object oriented programming, can learn from this book.

The way that Karli eases you into the concepts and describes what each line of code does is extremely helpful.

This book is probably NOT for the Intermediate to Advanced programmer as Karli covers a lot of basic programming concepts. However, It also is a great primer for anyone wanting exposure to the language.

My favorite C# book...
I wanted to learn C# (and learn more about .Net), and I'm coming from a mostly VB and ASP background. I was happy with Wrox's "C# Programming with the Public Beta" book (co-written by Watson), but wanted something that was more complete. At close to 1000 pages, this book certainly FEELS complete. It is also smartly outlined with excellent examples and exercises at the end of each chapter (but where are the answers??). Best of all once you step through the chapters on Windows and the web, there are TWO complete Case Studies (something I love about the Wrox books), and an article about building an Online Shopping Cart Using C#.
This book is similar in quality to Ivor Horton's "Beginning Java 2" books. (Only with better examples, in my opinion).

A book with ruff vocabulary.
The book Sex,Death and God in L.A. by David Reid (Editor) is a very difficult book to read. Judging on what I have read, I would not recommend it to just anyone with a low vocabulary. Although, the book does gives you the opportunity to learn new words. The vocabulary in this book is very structural. My vocabulary is not very strong, but by reading this book I have learned new words and more about Los Angeles. If you are into knowing more about Los Angeles and having a wonderful vocabulary, the book Sex, Death and God in L.A. is the way to go.

This book is a really intresting
Sex, death, and God in L.A., is a book that makes you want to know more about Los Angeles. This book makes you think about the different points of view and makes you come to your own conclusions about social, cultural, and economical differences.

The truth behing Sex,Death and God in L.A.
Sex, death and God in LA is a book targeted to a market of people who want to know about economic, demographic, political, and other issues about Los Angeles. The book is a collection of essays written by Eve Babitz, Alexander Cockburn, Mike Davis, Lynell George, Thomas S. Hines, Jeremy Larner, Ruben Martinez, David Reid, Carolyn See, and David Thomson who truly enlighten the reader about the benefits and problems of living in Southern California. The book was published on April 20, 1992. As a consequence much of the information as well as the feelings of the authors toward society may differ from the perspective of a reader in the late nineties. The reader will notice that the authors of these essays explain in detail almost every subject that they quote. David Reid editor of the book cleverly calls California the American Alexandria implying California's likeness to the city founded in Egypt in 332 BC by Alexander the Great which was located being close to the sea and inhabited by millions of immigrants. Sex, Death and God in L.A will take the reader through a journey where the authors explain the paradox that exists between L.A as racism, polluted and multicultural state and also paradise. The authors criticize the lack of values that exist in LA. They quote the case of the Menendez brothers. They condemn racism and talk about the Rodney King case. They give their opinion on US economy and politics and forecast times of recession. Finally they talk about the demographics of Los Angeles. There is about 20 million immigrants in the US, 8% can be found in Southern California. Sex, Death and God in LA discusses the problems that have developed from the immigration of Vietnamese, Asian, Koreans, Latino, Blacks and Europeans to California. The authors discuss their impact on California's economy and how they have helped California to emerge during the past decades. In short California is seen as a place where religions, languages, customs and why not - sexuality, lifestyle, and habits - from people from all around the world meet to give place to the unique Californian Culture. I definitely recommend Sex, Death and God in L.A. However, the reader has to be a critical thinker. He or she has to be aware and informed of the issues that are quoted and explained in the book. I think people who read this book and do not know much about California may not be able to understand the book or get the wrong image about it. Finally, I would like to say that although Sex, Death and God is a good book to read it doesn't explain fully what people should know about California. The book goes in detail explaining the troubles and how the low-income minorities contribute to the American society. Nevertheless, the book doesn't talk much about the high-income minority. In other words they give the reader the idea that California is inhabited by minorities that are not successful or that are just part of the working class, while whites people manage country. I would like to end recommending the book for critical thinkers who do not let themselves convince easily. The book is worth the amount paid and more. If you feel the need to know more about LA this is the book to read.
