Airships and Shakespeare and Aliens, Oh My!
My favorite part of Pyramid Online is Ken Hite's column Suppressed Transmission. He can find nice juicy bits suitable for just about any gaming genre out there. This book is a collection of columns from his first year, with footnotes and bibliography added in. It's a very good reference to the weirder side of life and history, and Mr Hite covers it with a sense of humor and a solid grasp on reality (something all too few people writing about conspiracy theories can manage). It's useful for any gamer, and nongamers who are interested in bizarre facts will probably enjoy it as well.

The Best Column from the Best Online Magazine
If you're a gamer, it's a good idea to subscribe to Steve Jackson Games' Pyramid online magazine...if nothing else, because you get to read the Suppressed Transmission, Ken Hite's weekly column on fringe theory for gaming. This book is a compilation of the best columns, covering a variety of subjects, from pole shifts to the Tunguska blast to, and this was my favorite, the occult nature of Coca-Cola.

Mr. Hite has a distinctive writing style; it's slightly dense, a tad erudite, but very, very readable, and downright funny, when you think about it. When I go to Pyramid every Friday, his is the first column I go to.

If you're at all into gaming, or fringe theory, this is a great book. It's easily the most useful gaming product I've purchased in the last two years.

What can I say? A terrific supplement.
Page after page of USEFUL, INTERESTING material that will go a long way toward enhancing any roleplaying game. I use it as a source of inspiration. Just about any item in this book could serve as the source for an adventure, a series of adventures, or even a full campaign--and most will work in any setting. This is NOT a supplement simply to GURPS or other SJGames systems; it's something that any gamer can use. In fact, it something that anyone interested in the strange history of our planet would enjoy.

SJ Games has a reputation for putting out good supplements; this does NOT fail to deliver on that promise.

A Great Addition to Your Short Fiction Shelf
I love reading short stories, and finding a new collection of varied and interesting voices is a joy. There are some original and unexpected gems here. The stories are down to earth and accessable and do work to make the reader think about the truth. I was unfamliar with most of these writers and look forward to seeing what they do next, as well as reading the next in the MOTA series.

The Truth is there's something for everyone
There's no need to go to your thesaurus for a definition of truth, although editor John Reed helpfully supplies a few in this anthology's introduction. Eighteen authors accept the challenge and shape stories around their own definition. Reed's anthology contains a remarkable variety of storytelling styles from light humor to dark fiction, and each story delivers its own life lesson about the way things really are. There's a doomed flour sack named Rupert, a jilted woman in a gorilla suit, a psychiatrist who could give Dr. Phil an inferiority complex, and more. I read several stories on the bus to work and found myself nodding in agreement with the authors' viewpoints. Each story is engrossing and entertaining. And I'm telling the truth!

Attacked by both sides
I'd heard about the book from a conservative friend who read about it in the New York Times. He was seething over the idea and just hated this Reed, who he called a Marxist. A few weeks later, I was talking to an actual Marxist, who also was seething over Reed's novel. So, being a reasonable fellow, I decided to take a look. And I loved it. Totally rational assesment of what's going on. A must read.

Snowball's Chance
Brilliant wit mixed with polical savvy! An incredible read!

EXCELLENT MARRIAGE OF HISTORY & CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP LESSONS
I am a leadership trainer and give over 200 programs per year. My leadership library is extensive and varied. Most of the new leadership books are just "love song" books - they are saying the same thing in a different way. In this book, the messages are the same, but the writing methodology is fresh and different.

James has accomplished an intriguing and "page turner" leadership lessons book by including detailed historic examples of each of Maxwell's 21!

a must have reference book for real estate investors
I can not imagine not having John T. Reeds books, especially this one, on my bookshelf. I constantly refer to this book whenever I am reviewing my investment strategies for my properties. I have found his philosophy extremely clear & concise. I appreciate his material so much because it stands out far above many other Real Estate books by "so-called" gurus who are basically pedalling snake oil to the general public. He gives purposeful & useful information. I own 5 of his books and have always found them to be a worthy investment.

Avian Ecology and Conservation in an Urbanizing World
Published in Hardcover by Kluwer Academic Publishers (15 August, 2001)
Authors: John M. Marzluff, Reed Bowman, and Roarke Donnelly
Amazon base price: $159.95
Average review score:

A rallying call for more than binoculars.
I am a masters student studying birds in the urban environment, so this book was just the tool I needed to help me get interested and educated on urban ecology and birds. The authors are leaders in urban ecology, or up and coming. They all write magnificent chapters that outline the need for study, the pertinent questions we should be asking, and even case studies. The bibliographies alone are a wonderful source.

While this book seems designed mostly for researchers, bird clubs and birders would do well to have a copy of this text on their bookshelves. It will provide fascinating insights and ideas for understanding birds in the urban ecosystem and its adjacent areas.

80% of the US population lives in urban or suburban areas. Finding ways to understand the birds closest to people will be a necessary challenge in the coming years if we are to successfuly manage our landscapes for wildlife and get the popular support to do it. This book is the first tome on how to do it.

Very pricey, but worth it if you're a club or wildlife department.

A Britten Source Book
Published in Hardcover by Oak Knoll Books (1987)
Authors: John Evans, Paul Wilson, and Philip Reed
Amazon base price: $80.00
Average review score:

The ONE Britten book you'll need.
You are fond of the music of Benjamin Britten; you also collect recordings of his music; you also collect scores, programs of Britten performances, other ephemera. You may even be asked to write or talk about the music in general, or about a specific work.

In short, you are a Britten buff. And it would be nice if there were a complete, detailed, chronological list of all his works, together with information about first performances, or other useful background notes on the composition and its performance.

You need wish no more. Here is your book, the only one you'll need. Complete, detailed, chronological, including an extensive bibliography, a list of recordings, even notes on incidental musical and occasional works. It is a thorough, no-nonsense catalog, lovingly compiled by John Evans, Philip Reed, and Paul Wilson, and published by the Pears-Britten Library in Aldeburgh, the seat of the annual Aldeburgh Festival.

It is hard to imagine a more useful book. No Britten-lover can afford to be without it.

Enlightening, broad and specific all at the same time.
As a creative drama teacher of students, ages 8-12, I am constantly seeking advice, new ideas, and insight to help young theatre students. IMPROVISATION has been a breath of fresh air, easily read and used in the class. You may wonder why I rated the book "9" - there's always more to learn.
