Feeling Australian Now
This book axamines the position of non-indigenous Australians who are sensitive to the great injustices done to Aboriginal people by the European "invaders", but who love the land of their birth and want to belong to it in a way which is both meaningful and yet sensitive to Aboriginal culture.

No doubt some of this could also apply to other countries such as New Zealand, USA, Canada, etc.

Read's style is very contemporary, and he uses extensively the thoughts and experiences of a wide variety of today's Australians, both indigenous and non-indigenous.

A very readable and thought provoking book.

Space tale not just for kids
Linda is an astronaut. Her fourth mission involves repairing a telescope in outer space. Combining color photos and illustrations with a simple vocabulary makes this another winner in the DK Eyewitness Reader series. It can be easily accessed by those starting to read on their own. Fact boxes are scattered throughout the book and interesting space facts are on a separate page. The details of an astronaut's training and work are woven into a story which will hold the attention of almost any reader.

Dine Bizaad: Speak, Read, Write Navajo: Lessons 11-20

Excellent and Useful - To accompany Class Training
Goossen's text & tape are welcome supplamental materials to a 2-yr study of Navajo. He provides sound examples on "how Navajo is spoken", vitally important in Navajo. He provides many good examples on how nouns, and verbs, and positional markers are used. I spent 2 years @ 65 hours a week training in Navajo to gain a 'basic' ability to speak to weavers. Gossen's work served as a useful platform in our student search for additional reference material. Both tape & text must be used in conjunction with a grounded study of Navajo - which means "lots of spoken training". Gossen provides good reference material on Navajo dialogue/conversation. Best used in sessions with native speakers. Would recommend it to students who are studying Navajo.

Best There is
The Navajo Language is a fairly difficult language to learn, and there are few books out there that can teach you the Language. In general, cultural practices of the Navajo are seldomly documented and packaged for sale--it's a cultural thing. But this book is the most extensive book out there. Unlike what a previous reviwer claimed, THERE ARE english translations for the Navajo words in the book, including a glossary in the back. YOU WILL NEED THE TAPES to accompany this book!! You just can't read the book and learn the language---the tapes are required. Navajo is a very "throaty" language and it takes a lot of prctice to learn it. Furthermore, I would suggest buying the Navajo-English Dictionary after you have mastered the book.

This book is excellent!
I cannot praise this book too highly. For years I have been searching for a good Dine (Navajo) course and this is by far the best one I have seen. It is clear, concise and user-friendly while also being thorough and grammatically accurate. The lessons are structured around useful, every-day language in the form of dialogues, stories, grammmatical explanations and exercises. The book includes an appendix of Dine verb structure and a two-way vocabulary, Dine/English and English/Dine. I haven't got the tapes yet, but the book is wonderful and definitely a valuable acquisition for anyone interested in learning to speak the Dine language.

A Book Report on Peter Rabbit - by Mr. Brown
If I start writing now when I'm not really rested it could upset my thinking which is not good at all. I'll get a fresh start tomorrow, and it's not due till Wednesday, so I'll have all of Tuesday, unless something should happen.

Why does this always happen, I should be outside playing, getting fresh air and sunshine; I work best under pressure, and they'll be lots of pressure, if I wait till tomorrow... I should start writing now. But if I start writing now, when I'm not really rested, it could upset my thinking which is not good at all.

A wonderful tale of Peter Rabbit
Peter Rabbit is one of four rabbits in his family. Very much curious as well as disobedient, Peter decides to wonder off into Mr. McGregor's garden. He has heard the warning given to him by his mother of what Mr. McGregor does to curious, wandering rabbits. Peter slips away from his brother's and sister's while they play in the fields and decides to see this wonderful garden. While in the garden, Peter fills his stomach with delicious carrots, lettuce and other various vegetables. While eating, Mr. McGregor finds the somewhat stuffed rabbit and chases him around his garden. Peter, realizing the mistake he made, only wishes to be free, that he might not make the same mistake again. This book is very well written and can capture the heart of even the oldest person. Filled with detailed pictures, Peter comes to life in this classic tale of tales.

This is my Nephew's favorite book
The pictures in this book are absolutely wonderful. It was my oldest nephews favorite book, his little brother also loves it, unfortunately after five years of hard use I just replaced it with a new one. This is the first time we've ever "worn out" a book!

If my two nephews could write a review, (they are boys, 5 and 2 yrs old), they would tell you that this book is a treasure!

Rather confusing book for young readers.
I ordered this book along with two other My First I Can Read Books for my daughter who is in first grade and is really struggling with reading. On the whole I was disappointed with it.

The words were pretty easy for her to read, but I had to do a lot of explaining for her to understand what was going on. The way the book is written, the child needs to look at the pictures to figure out what is going on. In fact, a few pages are completely without words. The problem is the pictures do not clearly show what is going on. I had to explain "See, the little girl doesn't know what to do. She is just standing there instead of looking for her brother. Oh, see, her brother is hiding in the pile of leaves. Oh, look, she is going to sit on the pile of leaves."

Another thing I did not like about the book was the ending, when the little sister doesn't play hide and seek the right way, her brother says he is not going to play with her anymore. That is not something I want to teach my daughter, who has two younger siblings.

The book is okay, but there are other My First I Can Read books that are better. Check out the Biscuit books. My daughter loves those, and they are really helping her with her reading.

Children with Younger Siblings Will Love This!
This book is about a little boy who is trying to teach his younger sister how to play hide-and-go-seek without much success. It is written in short sentences and easy vocabulary, making it ideal for the youngest of readers. Any child with younger siblings will identify with this little guy and his exasperation at having to play with his little sister!

Not Worth the Price
Although printed on better-than-average paper, this English import is only fair. I cannot imagine toddlers being that interested in the book; it appears most valuable as an early reader (the book contains only 21 unique words). The pictures are big and bright, something an infant might like. There's nothing that bad about it, it's just not very unique and certainly not worth the price.

Unreliable, sloppy descriptions
I have been traveling around the world for a while and this is the worst guide book I have ever used. The maps are inadequate. The information is far from complete. The descriptions seem to be more political propaganda than a picture of Central America. This book tells you what to think instead of letting you know what to expect. It took the joy out of traveling and it's lack of information put my safety at risk.
