Possibly the Best Cat Training Guide Ever Written!
In his book, Ray Berwick provides a comprehensive cook book approach to training cats along with very helpful photographs that show you how its done. In it you'll see how easy it actually is to train your cat to not only come when you call but to also "stay", "sit", "speak", "beg", "give paw" and much more.

The myth that cats are too independent to obey is quickly dispelled when you see how easily your cat responds to your commands while you both have fun together. Cats learn fast when you speak their language and as an animal trainer for Universal Studios who trained many cats, Berwick knows cat speak!

Following his formula, many owners will find as I did with mine that their cats are able to learn some of the simpler tricks like "come", "stay" and "sit" in as little as one five minute training session!

More advanced things such as leash training, toilet training (on a human toilet) and learning to be hearing for the deaf will take time but they are also covered in detail in the book. It is a soup to nuts guide with everything you'll need to transform your cat into everthing from the most well behaved cat in the neighborhood to VIP kitty!

This is the best cat training book ever!
I have trained my cats according to ray berwick's book since I got them in 1987. They are exremely well behaved. They NEVER beg for food. They use the toilet and flush. They come when called by name. They have never ever scratched me on purpose. They have not once scratched the furniture. People are amazed that the cats understand me when I give them commands. It's all because of Ray Berwick's book. I am so sorry it's out of print. I have two old copies that I've been lending to people for years. This movie aninimal trainer really knows his stuff.

Great Practical Advice
Mr. Berwick offers sound practical solutions for training cats and humane effective methods for correcting undesirable behavior. His observations on cat behavior are right on target. You can train your cat to be a wonderful companion without getting into a "war of wills".

My childs favorite book!
no other book has captured my sons attention like this one.he sings the rhymes and giggles as the child attempts to escape from his bath. It is a great bedtime ritual.your child will run to grab sleep song to read before bed every night. Trust me you will not be sorry.

Great bedtime story book
My kids loved this book. They're both toddlers aged 1-3. It's short, the pictures are exquisite, and the rhymes make it fun for kids to chant. A great book.

Safe, Warm Childhood, as it should be
A simple to read tale of a happy home full of love and comfort.

Karen Ackerman fills the reader with pleasant thoughts and that warm fuzzy feeling. Deborah Kogan Ray delightfully illustrates Karen's words.

A day in the life of a young family beginning with the morning sunrise and at the end of the busy day, being tucked in under and old quilt.

All childhoods should feel so welcome, safe and loving.

A wonderful addition to a childs library.

Read This One - You Won't Regret It
It might be hard to believe that writing about the making of a telescope could make for a good book. This husband & wife team pulled it off wonderfully. "Revealing the Universe..." takes you easily (even for the novice) through some basic physics and the history of X-Ray astronomy. Then the authors get into the Chandra project proper and the going gets good. They take the reader through the often dramatic process of getting such a complicated and costly project through the cogs of bureaucracy and politics and the infinite patience and perseverence of those scientists and administrators who made the project happen. Among the most interesting parts of the book are the descriptions of the technological miracles the scientists had to perform to make Chandra a reality; the impossibly precise requiements for the mirrors, for example, stretch the imagination and make for great "mind trips". Reading through sections describing crucial "make-or-break" tests of the different components is intense, like watching Robert DeNiro in a great car chase scene. And then, first light...the thing works...just like it was designed...or better! Awesome!
"Revealing the Universe..." is excellent for those interested in astronomy as well as for those interested in expanding your mind with a good read.

A good book
I liked this book because I like magical creatures like the tooth fairy. If you like magicals creatures, I would suggest that you read this book. I told my mom and my dad and my sister to read it and they all really liked it. I think it was one of the best books I ever read.

Why I liked this book
My favorite part of this book was the friendship a girl in the book had with the Tooth Fairy. I liked it because I got to read the letters the girl wrote to her friend, the tooth fairy.

This is an exellent book.
I loved it. It was about a little girl named Alex . Alex and the Tooth fairy were close freinds.(sort of like penpals.) The title the T.F letters stands for the Tooth fairy letters. If you havent read this book yet you really should beacause this book is great!

saw it in the book store, planning to buy online.
It has a hard cardboard cover with plastic slots on the inside to hold the quarters. Between the covers is about 50 or so pages, with a small page about each state in the order of their entry to the union. There is some basic statistical information about each state. It's a pretty good deal if you are looking for a simple place to keep your quarters. But if you want a display, it's not of high enough quality.

Excellent Folder For Collecting The New Quarters!
This book contains a stiff cardboard jacket with a plastic slot for each of the fifty quarters inside the front and back cover. The center consists of a booklet that gives information on each of the fifty states. What I really liked most about this is that is the size! The book is aprox 4.5" X 6.5" which makes it real easy to handle and store. I bought one of these for each of my children to have. It is much better than the huge cumbersome map they sell on TV!

Fun for kids of all ages
this would probably be most appropriate for 2nd to 4th graders. My little third-grader loved it. It includes some basic information about the states and a map. Also shows when other state quarters will be issued. My only complaint---only one place is reserved for each states' quarters. As we know, there are two types of quarters issued for each state...one from Denver mint and one from Philadelphia mint. Therefore, this book is not for serious collectors. But kids will love it! States' quarters...gotta catch 'em all!

Wonderful but not really wearable
The book has lots of good design. Unfortunately, as an adult, I do not think I would wear the work instructed in the book.

Specialized workbook
An interesting little workbook, designed to be used with something called the Olympus WigJig, a transparent wire bending jig. If, like me, you have never heard of this device, the book gives no information on how to obtain or make the jig. Fortunately, the designs can be made without the jig. The designs, while interesting, are copyrighted. Why does the author give us copyrighted designs for a mass-production jig? The book is strictly for beginners who are interested in simple wire bending without using soldering or any advanced techniques.

Wonderful, Wearable Wire
The reviewer above obviously didn't even read the book, as it gives (in several places) the website and 800 number of where to order the jig used. Also, the Wig Jig is not a mass production jig, it and the designs in the book are intended for personal use.

The book is an excellent start for beginners - It gives specific step by step instructions. The jig is not required for any of the designs, but it does make things easier & quicker.

First Of Its Genre, A Valuable Resource
The Pittsburgh-based firm Urban Design Associates has been in practice for nearly 40 years, over the decades accumulating quite a lot of experience in urban design. This is UDA's in-house training manual, polished and augmented for public use. If you are starting out in the urban design field, or are just curious about the methods of a successful firm, this is a good place to begin your investigations.

The first section introduces some basic principles and organizing concepts. Ideas like the "Urban X-Ray" and "Urban Assembly Kit" are easy to understand but at the same time provide a powerful means of evaluating locations and organizing the design process.

The second section, taking up one-third of the book, is a case study of the design process from beginning to site plan. It's really the heart of the manual. This section takes you through information collection, analysis, charrettes, preliminary design, negotiation, and final presentation. UDA can be justifiably proud of their work here, as the site (a housing project in Winston-Salem) was extremely challenging, yet the final plan was quite good from a number of perspectives. You get some idea of the politics, persuasion and patience necessary when working with established residents, officials, engineers and developers.

The following two sections cover pattern books and architecture. These sections are mostly about basic concepts and the firm's standardized methods, which can be dry reading. The information is sound, but presented in a rather generic way, and so is less engrossing than the earlier section. It will be of interest to students wanting to understand how one firm tackles contextual residential design.

In the extensive appendices, the roots of the manual become more apparent. These cover everything from filing system notation to line weight (how to draw a block of houses). Mainly of interest to those wanting to compare office administration procedures, students, and new UDA employees.

The Urban Design Manual delivers the goods in a concise format, focusing on UDA's methods rather than trying to encompass a variety of possible approaches. The illustrations are a treat to look at, and convey at least as much information as the text. The writing is clear and professional, yet also conversational and even a bit lighthearted. Mini "war story" vignettes in the margins bespeak the writers' understated humor. It is the first step-by-step manual of urban design (hopefully the first of many by various authors), and is valuable resource for students and practitioners.

Solid Technical Resource
Gindros and Company at UDA distilled the stuff they do every day (-designing buildings, neighborhoods and towns), into a manual for their own new hires. Then they expanded this information into a handbook for publication. The book presents an excellent framework for design work at several scales, from the individual building through the building blocks of great neighborhoods, the street, the block, the public spaces.

Solid Technical Reference
UDA's Urban Design Handbook is a good reference for architects, planners, community activists, and real estate developers. Gindros and Co. explain how their firm designs neighborhoods and towns is a wide range of settings.

Folks who are in this business will appreciate the step by step approach which extends right down to UDA's conventions for organizing slides and computer files. -always a challange in a collaborative work environment.

The book grew from the firm's internal training material. If your approach to design differs from UDA's, the Urban Design Handbook is still a valuable framework for developing your own tools for communicating the mechanics of your firm's technique and vision to new employees effectively.
