Moosey Moose is brilliant
I saw this book while browsing in my favorite bookstore and immediately loved it, even though I was at least 12 years older than the readers it is written for. The drawings and story are perfect for children, but older readers will get a kick out of Moosey Moose too. I love the page wherein "Moosey Moose is mad" and also the illustration of him snubbing his short pants in favor of the longer ones. This is the best of the four Thingy Things books I've seen. It is so delightful that Moosey Moose has been a topic of conversation at my high school for a year so far.

Mad About Moosey Moose
Chris Raschka's Moosey Moose, from the Thingy Things series, is a terrific children's book. It uses very simple sounds and words in repetition to teach kids to read. In this story Moosey Moose is mad because he wants his long pants -- not his short pants! (Our nephew who wears shorts in winter and long pants in summer loves Moosey Moose!) The illustrations are wonderful. It is the first of our son's books that both mommy & daddy can recite by heart!

Inspiring
This book means a lot to me- I'm featured in it! Groups of teens from various libraries in NYC met once a week, learned a craft and got to express themselves freely. Movin' is our words and emotions for others to enjoy and be inspired by. I sincerely hope this moves other teens to pick up a pen and any scrap of paper and write!!!

A showcase of young writers
A wonderful anthology of poems by young writers. All of these poems are full of wonderful language and images. I especially enjoyed, "Shoes", "Day Deli Day" and "Ode to the Last 5 minutes of English" but it would be hard to choose a favorite poem. Created during poetry workshops at New York Public Library, it's hard to believe that most of these poems were written in the time span of 20 minutes. These young poets are full of promise and their poems should inspire other teens to express themselves through language.

Let Your Imagination Soar...
The phone rings...Ring! A boy answers...Yo? and we're off and running, eavesdropping on one half of a telephone conversation. What are they talking about? What's happened? Can you imagine the other person's response, the person we can't see or hear? Christopher Raschka has written a one of a kind, inventive picture book that lets imaginations soar as youngsters get to create the story line and write the other half of this one sided conversation. His wonderful artwork, full of facial expressions and body language will give kids clues as they fill in the missing text. With a sample conversation at the end to get you started, children 5 and up will have hours of fun creating new scenarios and lines to complete this phone call.

Raschka strikes again!
Rejoin two friends from Yo! Yes? add a telephone, include somebody language and about 40 words and you have another cleverlydramatic tale from Chris Raschka. Kids will enjoy this book and Librarians, too.

my daughter loves it!
I came across this book over a book sale, along with'moosey moose' and 'goosey goose'. My daughter is only one and a half years old and i'm surprised that she loves these books. She never gets tire of them. I'm not sure if she understands what am I reading, but she seems to enjoy the rhythm and the sound of the words. Snaily snail is her favorite so far, I highly recommend this book for a joyful reading time.

We Love You Snaily Snail
My 3 and 6 year old daughters never tire of this one... we have 4 in the series, which we always read in one sitting at bedtime, but we always save the "best" for last! The sweet drawings accompany lovely verse that my older daughter "reads" and the little one recites from memory. I love the simple theme of loving each other all the time, together or apart...particularly important as a divorced, working mom! We also adore "Doggy Dog", "Goosey Goose" and "Lamby Lamb"... and are now ordering the last four "Thingy Things" volumes... but I say, start with "Snaily Snail"... We Love You, Snaily Snail!

Roosevelt is a delightful Hippo!
Chris Raschka has written inspiring text that complements his freely drawn illustrations perfectly. Our young hippo hero, Roosevelt, has a sister that can make him feel so self-conscious that he blushes! Roosevelt's best friend, a bird named Lombard, helps Roosevelt see himself in a different light. This is a beautiful book with a beautiful message.

The Tree as a true symbol of life
It is difficult to put into words the complex beauty of this book. If you are not familiar with the poetry of E.E. Cummings, this book will make you a surefire fan. The verse is sensitive, gentle and intimate. Beautifully paired with the whimsical, delicate and ever-bright illustrations by Mary Claire Smith, this book will sing to you and your child's hearts.

There are very few stories about Christmas which capture the essence of what all the decorations and packages truly represent. This is one of those few. The illustrations bring us back to a time when family and friends, hand-made gifts and music together were what were truly valued. Where Christmas was a festival which celebrated warmth, light, life and love.

For those who are sensitive to the masses of trees which are erased from our earth each Christmas, please take a look at this book. I especially appreciate that the angel who takes the tree from the forest to the child carries the tree with roots intact and then, through Ms. Smith's illustrations, the tree is pictured potted. The tree in this book is a true symbol of Life.

This book is one our family will treaure for generations to come.

I plan to gift this book to ALL ages!
My son participated in an enrichment class at his school focusing on Klee: his time, his works, his influence. Mrs. Greening, his teacher in this program, shared this book with me one day when I went in to observe! It is an absolutely beautful book inspired by Klee and the Shaker hymn. I am really looking forward to holding it in my hands, and keeping it near me, in order to view it again and again.

My musical 2 year old loves it!
I saw this book on "Between the Lions" and I loved it, so I bought it. I figured my daughter (then about 18 months) wouldn't have any interest, but I'd keep it until she got older. Boy, was I wrong. She loves it. She loves looking at it by herself and she loves us to read it to her. I'm not a major jazz fan, but the book is impossible to read without feeling the rhythm. The illustrations are fun and the cat looks just like ours!

First book my son read and read and read...
Picked this book up at the Library after it was featured on PBS's Between The Lions. My son never put the book down, so we bought it. The book is fun, easy to read for children, and the pictures are great. Both my boys have it memorized and read it often.

whimsical and delicious
No doubt about it. A classic that has my three year old now in love with be bop. Beautiful, whimsical paintings and delicious text! A great alternative to usual kid book drivel and TV engineered pap like authur, bernstien bears and disney stuff. Looking for children's literature. You found it.

Great Bedtime Read!
My daughter (18 mos. old) loves this story! We read it every night before she goes to sleep, at her request. I often use the text to play with her hair as we read, which she also seems to enjoy enough that now all I have to do is recite the book from memory to get her to sit still long enough to put in pig tails. I really like that each of the illustrations has a different skin tone- it's an important detail that could have been easily overlooked by a less inspired artist.

I Love This Book! Its So Cute! :-)
I think this is a very cute book. The water colors (no what that other chick said) are nice. Thats one of the things that make this book special and unique. I happen to have met "Bell Hooks" before and she is a very nice very brilliant lady (if your reading this Miss. hooks, i was in the school library with DJ) I love her style of writing and the book itself serves as an important reminder to all girls black and white. They should always learn to love themselves as they are no matter what any other people say. this book is great for all girls young and old. Im 14 and i love it! My opinion is buy it. It'll bring a smile to your face. A lot of her other books are good too.

Happy To Be Nappy
The first time I saw this book I knew I wanted to add this to my collection right away.I thought this book was very charming and heart warming. The watercolor paintings are so nice and warm.(they just make you feel real good) My children loved this book and it will always be one of personal favorites.
