Championship Ball Rocked My Court
Championship Ball was a great book! It is mainly about a boy, named Chip Hilton, who goes through his junior year with a broken leg. When he breaks his leg he can't play basketball so, he becomes the team manager. At first, he thinks he will have a terrible year but, later he finds out that he has learned more about basketball with his broken leg than he ever will. He learns about friendships and coaching more in this basketball season than his whole junior year put together. Chip coaches the team all the way to the championship. That's where Chip gets the winning ball. His team tells him about what a great manager he was. That's when Chip finally realizes that he had been the greatest manager ever.
In my opinion Championship Ball rocked my court! Chip Hilton has a great group of friends. His friends never do anything bad and never put anyone down. This book has great tone. The author puts in a great sense of joy throughout the whole book. There are only about a few places that I can point out were the author has used bad tone. This is a great book for boys who want to learn about basketball and yet, there is many great examples of doing what is right. So I say, get it and see what happens to my favorite manager, Chip Hilton.

These updates are wonderful
There's a good blend of the past and present in this book. In comparing it to the original, I like the updates that have been done without offending us older readers. The spirit of teamwork is still relevant to any age. I still get misty-eyed at the end.

Carried by a kook
_The Fan_ is an epistolary novel chronicling a fan's descent into extreme nutliness and eventually violence, and the effect he has on the object of his affections - Sally Ross, Broadway star - and those around her. The story progresses much as you think it might, and the ending isn't anything unexpected, but where this book really shines is in characterising the obsessed fan. His exquisitely kooky personality comes through in every word he writes, in his casual arrogance, the way he puts some phrases in apostrophes as though they hadn't passed into common use hundreds of years ago.. he'd be perfectly at home on alt.usenet.kooks.

The RV Buyers Survival Guide
I purchased this book expecting to be enlightened. I am an accomplished vehicle buyer and wanted basic facts on RV pricing. The book has some good information, if you never bought a car or RV before, but cost figures are generic. The quality of the book was poor (basically copier pages, not all printed straight, with a plastic binding. Not worth the price .... I guess it would be OK is it was the only game in town. A better buy is "How to Buy an RV and Save" by Don Wright. ...

RV Buyers Survival Guide
This how to book is a must if you plan to purchase a new or used RV. The guide walks you through the shopping process and describes the many types of Rv's that are on the market, and how to choose the best one to suit your needs. There is also a glossary of terms that are used in the RV business that will help you to talk the talk. After you have done all your research, have found the RV of your dreams, and are finally ready to take the big step towards the purchase, this guide excells in teaching you how to make your best deal. It explains the ins and outs of the industry, the best time to buy, and finally the purchasing process, where you can save thousands of dollars. We found this guide very easy to follow and when my wife and I applied his step by step instructions, by the time negotiations were over we had saved thousands of dollars! Bob even taught us how to receive more thousands in the value of our trade. It was a great feeling knowing we had the confidence to walk into the sales office being one-up on the dealer and their sales staff. Thanks for this great guide Bob!

How to save big bucks while smiling
Last year we watched our neighbors go off camping every weekend and decided this was our year to join the RV crowd. My neighbor told me about this book he bought that saved him thousands of dollars and took all the hassel out of buying, so I bought his copy. That was a great investment, the book "The Rv Buyers Survival guide" by Bob Randall. It's not full of color pictures but it is full of clearly written information that walks you step by step through the RV buying process. It even has it's own support website if you have a question for the author...too easy. The website has all the tools the book talks about using and made our quest a fun adventure. His tips on negotiating tatics was worth the price by itself. Oh,did we save any money after reading the book? Well near as I figure about $11,000 on a $61,000 Rv How I do :-) Thanks for the great book Bob, I now know the meaning of "Happy camper" ---George

The Road to Box Office: The Seven Film Comedies of Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour, 1940-1962

Road to Nowhere
A critical study of the great Hope-Crosby-Lamour Road Movies is long overdue - but this does not even begin to fit the bill.

Low on facts and thin on substance, the book seems more like a student's essay than a real study of the films. The author seems content that a quick overview of scenes from each film is enough to comprise an in-depth discussion, and constantly repeats himself, often putting the exact same paragraph within a couple of pages (Who was the proof reader for this book? ....).

When the book attempts to be critical (which it rarely does) it falls flat on it's face. The idea that The Road To Hong Kong is the least of the series purely due to it's Space Travel plot, - meaning it is less based in reality than the other films - is totally flawed.

To sum up - a potentially great book is scuppered by repetitious prose, little new information or research and very weak arguments. ....

Oh well, nice try - hopefully someone will do the series justice one day...

Flat Tire for the Road movies
A disappointment. Although the author deservedly credits Dorothy Lamour as an important part of the star combo for this series, he seems to have very little knowledge about her own illustrious non-Road career. Indeed, his bio chapter on her seems little more than paraphrasing James Robert Parish's chapter on her in the old 70s book The Paramount Pretties. And there is regrettably little fresh information for fans of the movies, who no doubt know everything mentioned here. At least he could have included some rare reviews to these pictures.

Pleasant but not enough meat for the price
I did enjoy this book, I must admit, yet the 47.99 price tag seems a bit hefty for a book that is a pretty superficial overview of the Road Films. The fimographies at the end do not list the cameo and unbilled performances of the three stars in each others' films (which is easy to research). All in all, the result was disappointing for this truly sparkling era of Hollywood production.
