The Presence of Spain
Jan Morris (who also wrote under the name James Morris) is a fantastic travel writer - really the best - and this is an outstanding early 1964 book of hers, with magnificent photos and captions. (A later 1979 version of the book, with a similar title, Spain, omits the photos and updates the text, but I think the photos are very helpful in experiencing the book.)

Remarkable, it's like reading an American DeToqueville
This work is fascinating to read. The editors have updated both Jefferson's language and punctuation, but also the 18th Century forms of measurement as well. One could takes this book to Europe today and recognize the places where this early American thinker traveled.

Authors / Title are deceptive
THANKS FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!! Book claims in the description to have loads of charts and step by step instructions for remodeling .
Personally i do not consider an example of a contract to be an example.

Like in the section about replacing windows, now there is where a diagram is needed.
Yes i may have been a sucker for buying the book, but the dummies are definitely the authors !!!!

The Carey Brothers' book was the VERY BEST on the subject!!
Morris and James Carey saved my sanity, my wallet, and quite possibly my marriage with their book "Home Remodeling for Dummies"! There are very few things in life more stressful than a remodel, but this book helped me put the stress where it belonged- on everyone else! I learned how to plan the addition for my twins room from concept to sunset, and I learned how to deal with a contractor and a budget. Keeping both of those on the same path as our vision of our remodel was a feat I wouldn't have been able to accomplish without the advice from this book. I never would have even attempted this project without the encouragement and confidence I gained from reading it- thus the "5 STAR" recomendation I give "Home Remodeling for Dummies".

Too difficult to find a phrase
The phrases in this book work well and the phoenetic spelling isn't horrible, I just found it difficult to quickly find what I wanted to say. I found the two page "essential phrases" list in the back of my other travel guides more useful because you didn't have to flip a bunch of pages to get what you need. I was on a brief trip to Europe, this book may be more useful for longer trips.

It was useful and very good to have around
This book is very useful to me because I travel to Europe every year and when I go there, it's difficult to get around the airports or the country itself. This little phrasebook has helped me to communicate with the other people in the countries I go to.

CPA learns money management -- the hard way.
This books is valuable whether your debt problems stem from overuse of consumer credit cards or not. It is packed with wise advice and actual case histories of people who have done a turnaround financially. The best case study is that of the author himself -- a fast-track CPA enjoying one mortgage, two cars, and multiple credit cards. Somehow his training didn't give him a clue as to why he couldn't pay his monthly bills. One day he had to move himself (and wife and kids) back in with his parents. The ten principles (mostly derived from Bible study) that he used to climb out of the hole are well-explained, and the book includes helpful forms and strategies for achieving financial stability. This is a good, practical self-help book, and the Christian perspective is interesting too.

Subject matter is designed for a limited readership
The book "Guided with a Steady Hand" is recommended reading for those historians interested in the history of Mother Neff State Park, Texas. It provides input into the general role of the Civilian Conservation Corps in the "New Deal" era, but contains little relavent material for areas outside of Texas. This book makes for easy reading and is loaded with information about the Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept., and the daily life of one particular CCC camp. However, for those readers who have no interest in the history of state parks in Texas, this book is of little value.

The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World
I did enjoy this book, however I probably would not have ordered it if I had seen it first. It contains 32 pages in total, including the index page. I found it easy to read and the drawings and photos were interesting. Overall the book would be very well suited to someone for a school project.

A weak book in the series
Usually a book from the 'traveler's tale' series will feature a healthy mix of stories of different genre; which enables its reader to understand a nation from many different prospective. However, the stories in this 'Tibet' volume are too politically dominated. I don't think this book present a holistic view on Tibetan culture.

Don't read this one
At first the book is interesting and will keep you reading, but it is to technical in the explanation of the law for the paints, that is really boring, and at the end, is like you never read this book, you will have absolutely nothing, everybody did what he wants no matter if it was against the law, and everybody win, could be that possible?

Great Visuals-Bad Storyline
Morris West's "Master Class" paints a vivid, if not overworn, plot of an American concubine Max Mathers living in Italy under the shadow of Pia, his elder lover. Upon her death, her will gives him access to any 2 of her antiquities. His knowledge of art finds him 2 rare Rafaels. After that, the plot becomes watered-down to its lowest common denominator. Writer Morris West, however, is incredibly well-knowledgeable and versed in international history and geography. His brush paints vivid charecters within concise arenas. His 'Gisella Mund' is a perfect charecter with incredible insight and depth. Kudos to his genuinity in writing. I only wish the plot equaled his charecters!

A Moderately Good Read
The story of an art hisorian's personal growth and transformation into a better person than he was previously. Masterful development of characters, and a moderately interesting story, but I never felt like I couldn't put the book down. The ending was realistic, and moderately satisfying. A well-written book, but not as good as some of his other books.
