Wonderful Look at Feminist Views of Fairy Tales
This is such an amazing book. It's part of what lead me into my research into looking at strong female characters in folk tales. This book is a must for people who don't want to read stories about wishy washy princesses waiting for the prince, and scholars alike. I reccomend this book highly.

Excellent writing / good stories
this is an excellent book. The stories are well written and varied in theme. I was captivated by the stories for young readers as well as the stories for old readers. buy this book for your children!

Engaging twists and turns, for young and old alike.
I read this first as a little girl, before i knew how to spell feminism let alone define it. The stories captivated me then for their ability to lead my mind into another land more fantastical than my own. Later in life, re-reading this book i was compelled by the issues, thoughts and questions Zipes raised in my mind. It is not feminism that kills you with its anger, it is feminism that makes you think. Sometimes whimsical, sometimes daring, and sometimes blatant, it always stands there to be read and re-read. A constant delight.

The work of a genius
It's hard to find words which do justice to these wonderful plays. Schiller is a genius, a german Shakespeare. The plays are full of fascinating characters, deep emotions and humanist ideals. Don't be surprised if you find youself sympathising with and understanding the enemys of the heroes. In Philipp II and Elizabeth I the inner torments of rulers surounded by false friends (Leichester, Alba), idealists(Posa, the spirit of liberty and friendship) and caught in there own fears, hopes and loves is poignantly illustrated. All in wonderfull words - read it in german if you possibly can! If you can't, DON'T miss it in english!!! You may find yourself identifying the situations in your life with those of the characters. These are plays to read over and over - always something new and worthwhile to discover.

Polygamy meets Christian missions! Unusual & unique.
David Ishmael has combined his travel and knowledge of a foreign culture with a facinating premis to produce a book that is sure to stretch your mind. One is faced with human situations and ways of thinking that seldom occur to the modern Westerner - but should. A good book should make you think and teach new things to put to work in new ways. This book does that in a delightful way. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Fascinating detective story
It is remarkable how much the authors and forensic anthropologists manage to induce from one partial body found in a bog. I found their speculations generally very persuasive, and the writing is very good.

My only quibble is that, as other reviewers have mentioned, the last 1/3 of the book the authors lose their narrow focus and go off on all sorts of speculation involving the druids in general - that part isn't nearly as interesting.

If you like this book, the closest analaogy I can recommend is to books describing how much information archaelogists have wrung out of Lucy, the Nariokotome (sp?) boy, etc. - this book reminded me of those.

A brilliant telling of a historical mystery
This book stands out in my memory as one of the best popular books ever written on an academic topic. The tale of the of Lindow Man- a body found in a peat bog- unfolds like a great mystery tale, and yet every bit of it is firmly rooted in fact. The story begins with the discovery of the body, and progresses through not only the investogation of the body itself, but through the discovery and reconstruction of ancient Celtic legends, the later British legends that derive from them, and finally their relation to the rituals that spelled the death of the man in the bog. The result is a tale far more exciting than anything you'd find in any fantasy or mystery novel.

Towords the end of the book, the authors get a bit speculative, but they're up front about this, and careful to seperate what's known from what is more conjectural. The authors' scientific training shows in the care they take to make the distinction clear.

Why this book went out of print when so many purely speculative books that aren't have as thrilling is certainly a mystery to me. If you have any interest in Celtic or Druid history, or in British legends, or in cultural and phsyical anthropology, get this book. If it doesn't go back into print soon, chase down a used copy. It's that good.

Best 'Mystery' ever!
I bought this book in a bargain basement when it was firstpublished. Since then I have read it several times, and it stillremains fascinating. The story unfolds after finding a brutally murdered 'corpse' in a bog and evolves into an enlightening glimpse of society in pre Roman Britain. Even though this is an archaeological story, this book covers so many fields of interest, I would recommend it to virtually anyone. A must read! END

Must Have for Confused Women
I received this book from my godmother in the middle of my break up with my fiance. I must say that this book helped me so much and I realized that I was in love with the idea of getting married and not in love with the man I almost did marry. This book has soo much good advice in it for woman who are either married or single. Don't take my advice, buy it and you will love it too.

Repairing and Mending The Broken Hearted!
Just wanted to say...I have recently purchased, and am in the process of reading the book entitled "Don't Bet On The Prince" by Dr. Gilda Carle..I must say, this is one of the refreshing and enlightening books I have read in a long time...It's timely message has helped me more than I can begin to say... Dr.Gilda has answered so many questions that I have had in my heart for so very long..It is teaching me about myself and the mechanics of the female heart! The book is written from Dr. Gilda's heart to all the broken hearted and disillusioned women of our time... Surely a masterpiece that stands alone in its class! I applaud Dr. Gilda for her frankness and boldness to share and explain the complex issues of the human heart..Her motive is clear... to help the hurting and get them back on the road to recovery! I highly recommend this wonderful book to all women that are confused, disoriented, used, abused, mistreated, etc.. Get it at all costs, read it. and get back your dignity, self-confidence, pride and self-worth ! Women were created to be loved, treated tenderly and not abused! Dr. Gilda, your book is truly an answer to prayer...May you be blessed beyond measure for all the good that you do with a pure heart for all the hurting women of our time ! Love to Dr. Gilda, and to all who read this review !

Even for already-marrieds like me - tons of great advice!
I really wondered what I could get from this book after 13 years of marriage to a great guy who is also the great father of my children. But let me tell you there is so much here! The self-assessments made me realize how much more criticizing than complimenting I was doing, how I was getting too busy to play, and most of all gave communication techniques. It's true that my husband was attracted to me for the power and self-confidence I had when we first met, but so much of it had waned over time. I'm looking forward to really working on myself so that I can add that faceted sparkle to our relationship again. Thank you Dr. Gilda!

The Man Who Would Not Be King
"Don Juan" is a moving biography about the man who gave everything to restore the monarchy in Spain and got a little more than a pat on his back. The author's first-hand accounts of Don Juan of Borbon in Rome, Estoril and Lausanne are unique and fascinating. His views on the Franco regime are rather subjective and biased, but relevant in substantiating his principal arguments. Mr. Pedro Sainz Rodríguez's political feats are fascinating, but perhaps exaggerated. I would exhort Mr. Anson to put together a biography about this obscure, humorous and genious of a man.

Why Don't We Live Together Anymore?: Understanding Divorce (Comforting Little Hearts Series)

disappointed
I was disapointed because this is a religious book that, frankly, warps the mind of young children. It teaches that moms and dads may leave you and be fallible and that divorce is caused by living in a sinful world. Our situation was an abusive situation, and my kids don't need more fear that now mom is going to leave them too, just like dad. That some spirit is going to take care of them, not some real person. I just think that people need to know that this is a religious book, if you are religious you will probably like it, but for those who are not, you will feel like it is warping to a young mind.

Why Don't We Live Together Any More?
With empathy and comfort, this little book speaks directly to children of divorce. Through creative interactive exercises, it gives children the mechanism for expressing themselves, and opens the door for important, healing conversation with parents. Most valuable of all, this gentle book stresses to children that their parents' divorce is NOT their fault and lets them know they are not alone. A must for any young child whose home is broken by divorce.

A Book of Hope and Comfort
This gentle book gives hope to children who are hurting. It remains positive about the fact that loving parents are doing the best they can in a difficult situation--"But sometimes parents can't stay together no matter how hard they try.". It addresses the guilt that children often feel--"Say this out loud--IT IS NOT MY FAULT." It speaks about the many changes that divorce often means (finances, moving, visitation). It even touches on dating.--"Maybe you are worried that your mom or dad will not love you as much if they start liking someone else--but love doesn't work that way." And then it offers hope beyond human resources, "When a family is broken, there is a pain too, but it is an inside pain....God sees your inside hurt. He loves you and will stay close to you...One day you will be able to say, "Divorce is hard, but I am just fine now!" --All quotes from, "Why Don't We Live Together Anymore?" by Robin Prince Monroe The book speaks for itself. It is a valuable resource for parents and others who are trying to help children through this difficult time.

How to be a Princess
I recently purchased this book for my 5 year old aspiring Princess and we were delighted. I do not normally purchase books about cartoon characters, this one caught my eye and we were not disappointed with the choice. I previewed the book on my husband and even he was chuckling, nor did he leave the room. The book is written just as any child would tell a story with great exaggeration and mispronunciations. The stickers are just an added feature making this book truly interactive.
