Detailed account of the busiest single day in the air war
This book gives you a very detailed account of May 10, 1972 when the U.S. cranked up the air war machine to send Hanoi a message, that should have been sent many years before. The start of Linebacker I. You will realize the enormous difficulty in mounting raid of this size and the people involved. But there werre no shortages of pilots willing to fly to Hanoi and do what they had wanted to do for years. Gripping detail and human drama.

A fun interactive book
These little people books that come with a figurine are wonderful. My girls love them. As I read to them they use the little figurine to act out what is happening in the story. On each page there is a box telling you what the figurine should be doing now as the story unfolds. Or you can do your own actions. A fun book to read and a must-have for Little People fans!

A BOOK THAT SOARS
This is a very good book on the jets involved in World War II. Nine planes are examined. We have from Germany: the Messerschmitt 262, Messerschmitt 163, Arado 234, Heinkel 162 and the Bachem Ba 349 Natter. We have from Great Britain the Gloster Meteor and from Japan the Yokosuka Ohka. From the USA, we have the Ryan FR-1 Fireball and the Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star. The text is well written covering their development, use in the war and place in history. There are quotes from pilots who flew the jets. A ME 262 pilot says "I closed on them rapidly from behind but when I got to about 550 yards the mustang leader started to rock his wings and I knew I had been seen. So I loosed off my 24 R4M rockets, into the middle of them." There are quotes from the pilots who fought them. For example, from a Spitfire pilot who said: "I got on the tail of the ME 262 following it down to the ground, firing whenever I could get my sight on the aircraft...The aircraft was extremely manoeuvrable. The pilot was hot and put the aircraft through everything in the book..." The book has plenty of b/w photos and diagrams of the planes. The WWII fighting jets, if the title interests you, the book will not disappoint you.

Good explanation of creating shareholder value, but...
Professor Rappaport's revised version of his 1986 book on creating shareholder value provides a good description of the value based management concept that he helped create. However, many of the chapters are stand alone sections that do not flow well together. In some chapters he does not provide enough depth on how this book can actually be used by managers. In addition, the chapters on using his concepts to formulate value-maximizing business strategies was somewhat lacking.

Nevertheless, the book was an easy read and many of his points were right on target. I would also highly recommend interested readers to check out "The Value Imperative" by Marakon Associates and "Valuation" by McKinsey & Co for more information on value based management.

The Classic -- From the "Father" of Shareholder Value
Professor Rappaport's revised and updated edition, provides a clear explanation of shareholder value concepts and application. One welcomed insight: he compares and contrasts the various shareholder methodologies (EVA and CFROI). As an indepent consultant specializing in shareholder value, I owe professor Rappaport and "Creating Shareholder Value" a debt of gratitude for introducing the critical link between corporate finance and competitive strategy. This is definately the "classic" work on shareholder value.

Valuation Fundamentals
Given that investors value bonds by discounting future cash flows, it stands to reason that they value stocks in the same fashion. Alfred Rappaport is the founder of the shareholder value mindset which gained importance in the '80 and is widely accepted in this new millenium. Rappaport starts the book explaining that objections to using a discounted Cash Flow model do not hold. Strong arguments and empirical evidence is given to explain the market's valuation mechanism. What follows is a basic but thorough explanation of the 3 elements for valuing a company (cash flows , risk and the competitive advantage period). In the second part of the book, it will become clear for the reader DCF is closely linked to strategic analysis and is not in contradiction with stakeholder analysis, customer value analysis, Activity Based costing or any other tool. On the contrary, Rappaport shows DCF is a communication tool that helps investors understand a company's implied performance and how to (re)act. Together with the Valuation book from Copeland, Koller and Murrin this is the book you need.

Overall very comprehensive.
this book overall is very good. the information is well laid out and easy to read. the author tries not to bog down with excessive information. it is pretty tight throughout. alot of aces that i had never heard of, which was good as i wasn't just reading stuff i had before. i would have prefered a little more information on the aces, rather than the campaigns. the book is packed with excellent photos and lots of them, it is still an excellent book and worth the read.

Fills in the gaps on Me-109 history.
Weal and Price have teamed up to present a fascinating examination of the Me-109 aces of the Spanish Civil War and the early days of WW II. Dr. Price's experience, both as a Bomber Command member and decades of research and writing experience on WW II aviation come to light, just as Weal's evaluation of the aircraft and the men who flew them inform the reader, both expert and novice alike.

Embedded Risks
An observation by Peter L. Bernstein that the "fundamental law of investing is the uncertainty of the future" sets up the dilemma undertood by all investors grappling with risk in pursuit of gain. This book starts with the assumption that stock prices represent the market's expectations about a company's future performance. There are "price implied expectations" (PIE) embodied in the price of a stock. Defining the "value drivers" of these expectations, understanding how they contribute to a company's success, and anticipating revisions in their assessed effectiveness for a particular company are critical steps in this investment approach. Determining the PIE for a particular stock from publicly available information involves a range of estimates and a need to understand the industry sector. What we have here is an artful process for estimating value not fail safe equations. This is a challenging book on a number of fronts: Stock prices, we are told, only "tenuously" relate to earnings growth. Rather "changes in expectations about future cash flows" are the key, and earnings and shareholder value may not move together. On the other hand, the notion that a stock price can be deconstructed to establish the expectations investors have for its future seems intuitively clear. This reader would have been more persuaded of the usefulness of this analytical approach with more case studies where the ideas are comprehensively applied. Separate chapters dealing with acquisitions, stock buybacks, and employee stock options - each of which when properly interpreted can modify an investor's expectations - are especially insightful.

good companies are not always good stocks!
Alfred Rappaport is a wide acknowledged founder of the shareholder value approach. Michael Mauboussin is a respected strategist at CSFB, a respected investment banking firm. Together, they wrote a book which is simple and intuitive to read for people with a financial background or a strong interest in different aspects of corporate finance. A good grisp of the DCF approach is a minimum requirement. (you could start with creating shareholder value of A. Rappaport to get up to date)

Both authors start by explaining why investors place short term bets on the Long term future of stocks... Some companies are victim of the expectation treadmill and saw there stockprices decline rapidly as a result (90% of the TMT companies). The good thing about the book starts after this intro which is refreshing but not new. The second part links the number crunching part with interesting frameworks for competitive analysis. The fundamental law of investing might be the uncertainty of the future, but the frameworks at least will give you the tools in trying to be a visionair. because being a visionair is the only way you can beat the index. An investor does not only need to find good companies. He/she also needs to know the expectations already embedded in the stock price. The third part gives a couple of examples when these expectations might change and how to react (buy or sell). This book will be the start of a standard type of analysis in the next decade. I will try to start in the Netherlands...

An investor's guide on how to approach the investing process
This book is a must read for anyone that invests in the market and wants to make consistent gains in his/her portfolio. Most people spend more time planning a vacation than they do in picking the stocks in their portfolios. And even when they do some research into a stock usually it constitutes asking their peers on what they think about company XYZ. And the people they solicit this advice from are just as ineffective in their research and knowledge about company XYZ.

Mr. Mauboussin and Mr. Rappaport give investors the right tools to make careful and informed investing decisions. The authors suggest that the market prices "expectations" into a stock and a good investor needs to strip this from the analysis and find the true intrinsic value of a security. The is accomplished by various financial analysis tools presented in the book and also by a fundamental shift in investor thinking and perception.

Chronicle and strategic analysis of Falklands air war.
Ethell and Price present a summation of the air war in and around the Falklands Islands during the 1982 war. The detail is complete, down to a complete chronology, summaries of important missions, details on combat , aircraft losses, successful strikes, and opposing order of battle comparisons. This is a book more aimed at the military buff or military historian. The viewpoint is obviously British, but the authors present well documented information about the actions taken by the Argentinian forces and staff during the conflict.

Beyond the day-to-day action, the most interesting facet of this book is a revelation of the immense strategic effect British air power played in the contest. The embarked air wing sealed off the Argentine garrison, repeatedly drove Argentian aircraft away from support of their own troops, devised tactics to defeat numerically superior forces in spite of very limited resources, controlled the air, and confounded a tottering Argentine military establishment.

The British Navy payed heavily for the Falklands War, the army fought and won a decisive victory, the air arm triumphed.

Facts such as why the air wing guaranteed the Paras win at Goose Greene, and why the bombing raid on the Port Stanley airfield (much derided) produced an unforseen and brilliant strategic succes shed important light on the British triumph.

A must read for those interested in the strategy and tactics of air war.

Excellent.
I was 10 years old when I picked out this book in a grocery store to read on a family road trip; it had a cool picture of a jet on the cover. This book began a long-running fascination with everything military, especially fighters and the Harrier in particular. It is detailed and somewhat technical, but the fact that a 10-year-old was willing to struggle with it speaks volumes for its captivating narrative. Highly recommended should you happen to see this lying around somewhere.

THe Best (and virtually only) Book on the Falklands Air War
As a student which has written papers on the Falklands Conflict of 1982, I have found this book to be an invaluable reference. Though written from the British point of view, this book does pretty well in being as unbiased as possible. Its day-by-day accounts are excellent, and the appendicies are excellent also. The only possible downside to this book is the Kill Tables in the back of the book are innacurate when compared to both British and Argentinian sources. But, considering the fact that these numbers were compiled by the authors can explain this.

This series should be reprinted!
This book, ISBN nr. 0850640555, is actually German Air Force Bombersof world war two, Volume two. It is part nine of a series with at least twelve, but maybe even fifteen volumes, published by the same company that brought you the 'Aircraft in Profile' series. The quality of the books is of the same high standard that was set with the 'Aircraft in Profile' series of the same time -they kept getting better with the years, starting around 1964 and suddenly stopping around 1975, leaving the world a series of unrivalled aircraft monographs.
The book under discussion here is part of a spin-off series, bringing more material and also bringing aircraft of the same nation and function together in a nice hardcover format of about the same size as the present Sqadron/Signal 'In Action' series, which is slowly getting to reaching the 200 mark itself.

Conventional book
Redoubtable writer Alfred Price writed a good book, which gives a general picture of the pilots who fought in this kind of airplane. The plates, as always, are very well drawned and explains, with his legends, a lot about the pilots. Good job.

Brief history with excellent coverage of electronic warfare
This is a briefed version of The History of US Electronic Warfare
volume III from the same author. It coveres the US electronic warfare history since early 1960s till 2000. This is not a thick book and with more than 20 chapters, so you could image each chapter only takes some pages.

This is not a book full with math, equations and theories. If you are looking for detail data and information of the EW systems in the past 40 years, this is not a book for you.

If you have no idea of those math, equations and theories but you like to know the history of the EW in the past 40 years, especailly during the clod war, with contents not boring, you find a good book to read.

I stopped reading other books and magazines and spent almost three weeks to finish this book. I already had some background reading of modern combat, missile systems and electronic warfare, but I have to say this book really opened my eyes to more interesting history and information of electronic warfare.

The author covers not only the conflicts in the past where EW equipment made things differently, he also covers development of theories and equipment parallel to the cold war and conflicts. You also could find not only how to fight radar system, also how to intercept radio or telementry transmission and find usful information. I believe this book could help readers to understand electronic warfare is not just fighting radar, it's a lot more.

My conclusion : if you alreadt have The History of US Electronic Warfare, then you don;t need this book since that one covers more details. If you don't have that one or you don't need too much details but just some fun, this is the book you would like to consider.
