For students of social sciences
This book is a statistics textbook for students of social sciences, not high-end users. I read earlier edition of this book in undergraduate statistics course. In that course, only basics of statistics were instructed. In social sciences, they don't need to know A to Z of statistics for all they have to know is what the function of SPSS or SAS means and what kind of data is needed and how the data would be analyzed in the statistics packages. There is no need to derive the functions in the textbook mathematically as they do in the courses of statistics department. We should understand what the function means, not how it is derived. This book is written in this regard. Unlike orthodox statistics textbook, this book tackles only the meaning of the statistical methods. In doing so, this book illustrates the methods with various field works and SPSS exercises. This is the stance most textbook written for social scientists takes. It seems that this book succeed in achieving the goal. Explanations are succinct and examples are apposite.
But this book is not that useful when you should do real research. Most social sciences articles use more advanced methods than what this book introduces. This book is good enough to beginners, but not so to who would be real researcher. At that point, you should have read more advanced ones already. If not, you couldn't read a piece of article in the common journals.

No real moral but a gorgeous little book...
Unlike some of Potter's other books concerning young animals' rash behavior (Peter Rabbit, Tom Kitten) or adult animals' ignorance/trickery (Jemima Puddle Duck, Mr. Tod), this book simply tells the story of Jeremy who is almost eaten by a fish while fishing on a lily pad. No life lesson, but a sweet story and some of her most beautiful illustrations ever. Especially great for budding fishermen/women!

A Book Report on Peter Rabbit - by Mr. Brown
If I start writing now when I'm not really rested it could upset my thinking which is not good at all. I'll get a fresh start tomorrow, and it's not due till Wednesday, so I'll have all of Tuesday, unless something should happen.

Why does this always happen, I should be outside playing, getting fresh air and sunshine; I work best under pressure, and they'll be lots of pressure, if I wait till tomorrow... I should start writing now. But if I start writing now, when I'm not really rested, it could upset my thinking which is not good at all.

A wonderful tale of Peter Rabbit
Peter Rabbit is one of four rabbits in his family. Very much curious as well as disobedient, Peter decides to wonder off into Mr. McGregor's garden. He has heard the warning given to him by his mother of what Mr. McGregor does to curious, wandering rabbits. Peter slips away from his brother's and sister's while they play in the fields and decides to see this wonderful garden. While in the garden, Peter fills his stomach with delicious carrots, lettuce and other various vegetables. While eating, Mr. McGregor finds the somewhat stuffed rabbit and chases him around his garden. Peter, realizing the mistake he made, only wishes to be free, that he might not make the same mistake again. This book is very well written and can capture the heart of even the oldest person. Filled with detailed pictures, Peter comes to life in this classic tale of tales.

This is my Nephew's favorite book
The pictures in this book are absolutely wonderful. It was my oldest nephews favorite book, his little brother also loves it, unfortunately after five years of hard use I just replaced it with a new one. This is the first time we've ever "worn out" a book!

If my two nephews could write a review, (they are boys, 5 and 2 yrs old), they would tell you that this book is a treasure!

This book fails to deliver detailed information.
This book fails to deliver on the goods it promisses. On the back of the book box, it proclaims EXAUSTIVE coverage of everything including database integration, Add-ins, SQL server, ect... . This couldn't be further from the truth, in fact the text doenst go in depth with any of these topics. With over 2,000 pages to read you'd think they would cover some ground wouldn't you? I bought the set on discount and it wasn't even worth that much. A wide variety of topics were only BRIEFLY addressed, do yourself a favor, look for VB books published by WROX, at least they care about what your reading. In the meantime, i have wasted my time and space on my bookshelf because of this text.

Visual Basic 5 SuperBible with CDROM
Its little bit Advance lavel book, but it contain huge refernce. They try to re-presnt like VB dictionary. Its not bad.

The Best Reference Guide Yet!!
A great book for referencing!! I've reviewed over 20 VB reference guides and I still come back this one every time... even when coding in VB6. I strongly recommend it to anyone who simply needs answers immediately!

trite and dreary
I find it truly amazing that this book received so many positive reviews. The art is very good but by no means excellent. It comes across as a cartoonish and cliched portrayal of the Mexican landscape. The story is a dreary, condescending, and trite approach to its Mexican subject matter. A rip-off of the Classic poem "The House that Jack Built", its easy substitution of Mexican tools and terms, and repetitive, stilted phrases hardly render it a visionary poetic masterpiece. The verse becomes so bogged down in excess rhyming verbs, and empty descriptive words like 'beautiful' that the reading experience is like slogging through cow manure. That's before the reader attempts the smaller print on the right, which is as exciting an an encyclopedia excerpt, and a complete turn-off to children already impatient. As a pre-school teacher and mother of two young children, I found it was a grinding read that truly sapped my energy and put the kids to sleep..well before their bedtime.

not a good seller
The pictures are very nice. But as other reviewers have said, the structure and layout is fatally flawed and the writing style more appealing to adults who grew up knowing "The House that Jack Built". I'm finding it's not a popular seller. As a bookstore owner, I'm also finding that the publishing industry is more and more out of touch with consumer demand. That even goes for many of these smaller companies. Lee & Low, I admire your multicultural aim, but shake up your editorial dept. please! Many of your books are too similar, the writing trite and stilted. Do more humor, go deeper, be more original in style and content!

not impressed, kids were bored
The art is not as stunning as in some other recent titles, but certain design elements are unique and make for an interesting composition. I encountered resistance when reading this story to my kindergarten class. They lost interest when I reached the historical information on the right side of the book. It was an interesting idea to incorporate the true facts of Juan's life, but I think the structure and layout of the story suffers from this dense presentation of facts. As for the poetry, I would have been more impressed by an original voice and rhythm uniquely suited to its Mexican subject and setting, and not borrowed from a Classic nursery rhyme.

Missing vital information
This book is one of the worst textbooks I've had. The example problems do not contain units, and skip vital steps to arriving at the solutions. In lieu of this, the authors have used such statements as, "of course" and "so"-- a true sign of a bad textbook. This one gets sold back at the end of the semester.

It's easy to understand and explain
I used it because I teach in the Santiago MariƱo Politech in Maracay City, but I was surprise that the select problems only have solutions until chapter 8, and I need the rest of the chapter select problems solutions.

A TWISTED POCKET PAL TO HELP YOU WIN (AND LOSE) PALS
This teeny tome (it measures 3.5 by 3.5 inches) is the perfect pocket-sized primer of used (and abused) proverbs and sayings, bastardized by some famous folks to suit their own applause-getting needs. Think Roseanne: "The fastest way to a man's heart is through his chest." Think Rhonda Boozer: "A bird in the hand is dead." Think John Lennon: "Beauty is in the eye of the newt and a hair of the dog." (Huh?) Think Dorothy Parker: "Don't put all your eggs into one bastard." Think Woody Allen: "TB or not TB, that is the congestion." Mae's here, as is Lenny and Groucho and W.C. It's a shame the cover is so misleading: "Do unto others ... then run" was muttered by Benny Hill, but Groucho. Here, the book ain't on the Marx.

computer simulation of dynamic models
It is a brief review based on my past memory when I saw the book on the desk of a professor, a colleague at University of Tenessee, Knoxville. The book, Dynamic Models in Physics is a good reference book to improve upon similiar courses in physics departments, particularly for second year physics undergraduates who have completed two semesters of a calculus based introductory physics, and are about to start in a year or two an instruction in Goldstein level of mechanics. I can use the book gainfully even in my own course of a 300 level mechanics course, and if book can be seamlessly adopted to excell spreadsheet, can seve as a companion textbook.

I may have to leave now, and probably i will write a more candid review if i have the book on my desk. I am taking this opportunity to request the authors if they can rush a copy to me. I remember vaguely that the book has a good coverage on normal mode analysis that i use in my diffraction based simulation of materials' structure-property.

Sorry for rushing the review 1

PE Review by Potter
I read this one first, then the one by Lindeburg. There is no comparison- the Potter book has too many mistakes, outdated material, its organization does not mirror the exam's organization like the Lindeburg book does, it is not in depth enough to be of any use. After working through the Lindeburg book, I rarely even referred to this one (and the exam was a snap).

Horribly outdated reference
While trying to study from this book I found many outdated references. For instance, tables and charts for the 1984 "green book" and references to the 198-something HCM. The book also has a hydraulics and hydrology slant. Even the Highway section turns into a hydralogy review loosly based on highways. Do not buy this book, instead look into the Lindeman reference.

Too Many Mistakes & Too Many Unstated Assumptions
The mistakes, inconsistencies, and assumptions are frustrating. I don't know if there is anything better on the market. If so, I wish I had it right now.
