A must-own for all Michiganians
Robert Cameron's "Above" series are all fine works, and offer unique glimpses at major cities from a unique perspective. All of his works are primarily photography travelogues, but each offers pithy captions from local experts.

"Above Mackinac" is among the best, and offers spectacular aerial photos of not just Mackinac, but all of Northwestern lower Michigan. The book also does a fantastic job of pairing Cameron's photos with historical shots, highlighting changes over the years. Sort of a then-and-now retrospective. Mind you, these are not 35,000-foot government-land-survey-type aeriel photos, but rather are lower angle photos taken from a helicopter at perhaps 2,000 feet, so details can easily be picked out.

The colors and landscapes of this glorious region come alive -- partly because many of the photos were taken at the peak of the fall colors. The sights of Mackinac, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Charlevoix and the five-mile long "Mighty Mac" bridge bring back great memories for me anyway.

Makes a great coffeetable book. My only complaint is that unlike most of his other works, this particular book is not available in hardcover. Enjoy!

High above the rest
As a relatively small island, Mackinac is almost perfectly suited to Cameron's style. Reading this book is almost as good as a trip to Northern Michigan. Cameron has obtained some of the best color-reproduction craftspeople in the world to print his books, and it shows. These are not your ordinary snapshots. The entire Island is here. If you ever wanted to see something steadily and see it whole, this book is a good place to start.

A beautiful book of a beautiful place.
I was fortunate to live on Mackinac Island the summer that this book was published and have a copy from The Island Bookstore, signed by both Robert Cameron and Phil Porter. The book is gorgeous, and now that I am planning to return to the island after a five year absence, it is invaluable as I choose lodging and make plans. It effectively captures the beauty and majesty of a very special place and Cameron and Porter's affection for Mackinac Island is evident on every page. For those who hope to visit this magical place or who already hold it dear, Above Mackinac is a wonderful journey.

Lovely Book - No Gold!
I bought this one for my daughter who was studying Robert Frost in first grade. The illustrations are lovely, and she treasures the book. The only disappointment was that it doesn't contain the poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay" (one of our favorites). From the cover picture, I'd expected it to contain that one.
Still, I'm glad I bought it for her.

Awsome
I have read this book by Robert Frost end to end. When I first saw this book I had to read it. I read Robert Frost last year in school. This book can be read to any age at any time. I thik some of Robert Frosts pomes can tech kids about life. That is what I think of this Robert Frost book.

Robert Frost (Poetry for Young People).
I love Robert Frost's poetry and was looking for a good way to introduce his wonderful words to young children. I have found that way through this beautiful book. I am an assistant principal and can't wait to share this book with my teachers and students. As I read this book, I felt like I was in New England during all four seasons. A must buy for poetry lovers and Robert Frost fans.

Overall, an excellent text for beginners or veterans...
From an established leader in the Emergency Medicine Textbook business, comes their latest addition to a stable of steady and proven performers. Not only does this text cover the necessary skills and knowledge needed to form a well-rounded field Paramedic, it also touches upon the basics, all without "talking down" to the student. A keeper in the reference library of any student of Emergency Medicine.

Divide and Rule
Very Interesting book for those avid readers interested in the few years before and after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. The book shows how England decieved the Arabs by making false promises of independence once the Arabs completed thier revolt against the Ottomans. Arabs ended up with British and French mandates instead. Lawrence was himself betrayed by his own government. The book gives a lot of detail on the daily life of bedouins, so some might find it interesting. The author should have dealt more with Lawrence's view of Zionism and the Balfour declaration and British policies in the region.

The Practical Guide to Joint Ventures and Corporate Alliance
An excellent "cookbook" approach to Joint Ventures and Alliances. Without drilling down to excessive detail the author addresses the basics of the strategic, financial, legal, and operational challenges of such business partnerships. He utilizes a series of phases to describe the life-cycle of such arrangements. Of note is the use of numerous examples of both successful and unsuccessful JV's and alliances. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in utilizing these complex business arrangements.

Military medicine, not paramedicine
Considering the time that we are in, in this world, this book should be read by every medical provider. The Nuclear, Biological & Chemical sections are covered fairly well. Those are the only sections that present anything new. Various skills are shown but any medic worth their salt already knows how to start and IV and provide advanced airway management.

If you have recieved Haz Mat training, there may not be too much useful info in here for you. If you have recieved no specialized training like firefighter, haz mat, tactical etc this book would be very useful for you. This book covers, in great detail, NBC situations.

I got thrown off by the word "tactical" in the title. When paramedics see that word they think of working with a SWAT team or other police units. This book provides very little help to somebody working with police. This book is designed for military personnel, and does very little to help those of us in the civilian emergency medical field.

Most of what's in this book can be found in any paramedic textbook. It was a good look into how the military does things. I learned very little medical information from this book. All I learned is how the military does things. And especially, from what I know, most military NBC emergency procedures are classified, it hurts the information presented in this book.

The book did me very little good and served me next to nothing, but was a good read because I learned a few things.

Tactical Operational Medicine
Dr. De Lorenzo and Mr. Porter have written a very readable product on operational medicine. This is an area of medical practice that begs for more documentation, and this text is a good start. Although the information contained in the text leans heavily to the military operational side, there is a great deal of information useful to civilian Tactical services. Some of the opinions are a little controversial, but the authors take a stand and attempt to justify their opinions. Topic areas such as laser and microwave injuries are not available in other sources. The approach taken by these authors is very practical and useful from a clinical point of view. This book is a valuable addition to any emergency physician or paramedics library. I hope to see further editions with improvements.

Tactical EMS
This book is a blend of military medicine, tactical (as in law-enforcement/SWAT) EMS and state-of-the-art prehospital care. It achieves its stated goals of bringing the best of all these worlds to the medics in the trenches. Advanced techniques such as intubation and transport medicine are well-covered, while basic techniques such as manual carries are not overlooked. Particularly helpful are the sections on NBC/WMD, medication use and preparing patients for long transport.

Highly recommended for any emergency care provider desiring an in-depth look at tactical care.

Not a good investment
I was truly disappointed in this text. While it may be appropriate for military use, I found it difficult to tranport the information and tactics to a civilian environment.

A Sign of the Times
Given the events of September 11, 2001, there is no better text to read on the emergency care of WMD than this book. Intended for prehospital audiences, this information-packed book might also appeal to doctors and nurses. It covers the nuclear, biological and chemical weapons threats, and it has several good chapters on conventional explosive threats and burns. The excellent integration of WMD care into standard civilian prehhospital practice reflects the backgrounds of the authors, both (according to the bios) of whom have extensive EMS experience.

A must read for ANY prehospital/EMS or emergency care provider, regardless of job or positiion. This stuff is too improtant not to be well-versed in, and this book is the right ticket.

Intermediate Emergency Care

No longer current.
This book covers an outdated version of the national EMT-Intermediate curriculum. If you are looking for a book to prepare for the exam get something a little more recent.

Pretty Good
I found this book to be a great follow up to my BLS training. This book doesn't contain the in-depth information that a paramedic textbook would but it has many good introductions to important areas. Fluid replacement and pathophysiology, advanced airway management, basic pharmacology, pulse oximetry, defibrillation and communications are the best chapters from this book.

This book gives a great introduction to some very important topics. This book also gives a BLS provider another option for continuous education. BLS providers often get stuck between BLS and ALS books, that gap is very big and difficult to bridge. Intermediate Emergency Care provides a happy medium for BLS providers interested in learning more advanced procedures, as well as the obvious EMT-I certifications and courses.

This book would be a good read for BLS providers who have a good handle on basic medical care and are looking to learn more. The information presented in this book is easy to learn because of its layout.

Comprehensive coverage of skills.
Although the information contained in this text was easy to read and comprehensive, there were some errors. These errors consisted mostly of conflicting information with the workbook, and some grammatical errors which sometimes made reading difficult.
