Beautiful Haggadah!
This is magnificent! Reproduction including the wine stains from Seder. Just what I had hoped.

Sarajevo Haggadah Review
This book is beautiful, and the best I can say about is:
I made a gift of this book to a hebrew family, and they decided
to frame most of the sheets and hung it on a home walls. That
explains well how magnificient and emotive is to whom loves
tradition.

Unbelievable bargain for a splendid medieval reproduction
I found this Haggadah in Paris and was ready to pay three figures for one. It was so inexpensive here that I bought three to give Its very, very heavy paper seems almost like the original parchment. It measures 11X13" and has some 100 full page plates. The colors, painting and calligraphy of this scribe could not be equalled in our century. It is perfectly clear and could be used as a functional haggadah although you will certainly not want to drip wine on this treasure. Keep it away from rowdy kids but show it to everyone else. It's really a marvel. At the end of the book they have appended a modern English and Hebrew version, post Guttenberg style.

A door to the future!
An excellent cross-discipline book that brings the reader into a much bigger phenomenon that crop circles themselves. Dr. Hein explores realities that may help make a better world, by understanding that there are no simplistic answers to any of life's mysteries. A good read and a must for any student of the strange and wonderful.

This Book Rocks!
Finally, the most informative book about crop circles. Fascinating reading. The reader will learn about topics such as remote viewing, quantum physics, and other "paranormal" topics. It is obvious that Dr. Hein has thoroughly researched these subjects. Not to be missed!

Open your minds with Opening Minds
I have been researching the crop circles in England for a decade, and I know Dr. Hein personally (I hope that doesn't disqualify me!).

What I want to say is that my own findings, that the crop circles are made by spiritually inspired humans, coincide strongly with Dr. Hein's -- and indeed that his ideas have greatly extended my own thinking.

The fact is that what is flattening the crops is NOT where the mystery lies. There are SO many other unanswered questions, from the balls of light that have been seen by hundreds of people in the vicinity of crop circles (and close up by people making crop circles!), to what I call the "telepathic connection," as well as many other bewildering things which are covered in Opening Minds.

I recommend the book as by far the most realistic AND enlightening on the subject of the circles I have ever seen. Dr. Hein's discussion of UFOs and remote viewing, etc., are equally insightful.

Abremelin operation for contemporaries!
This is an amazing book. It simplifies a lot complex Abremelin teachings and methods of invoking the HGA. It is a common sense approach to contemporary Abremelin workers. If you have the original title, "Sacred Magick of Abremelin the Mage", this book can certainly work as an adjunct to understanding the original work much better.
I give it 5 stars and wait for more titles by Mr. Newcomb.

An Inspirational Read
"21st Century Mage: Drawing Down the Divine" is an exciting new book that invites us to make contact with our "Holy Guardian Angel," our unique personal connection with higher planes of consciousness. New author Jason Augustus Newcomb has reinterpreted the 15th century text, "The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage," into a relevant program for contemporary spiritual seekers. Mr. Newcomb's book offers a completely modern approach to the mysticism and magic of Abramelin. Cutting to the core of the "Abramelin" system, "21st Century Mage" describes for the reader many tools and methods from yoga meditation to ritual magick for getting in touch with the personal genius, "Holy Guardian Angel," or tutelary spirit that is each person's connection with universal consciousness.

According to Newcomb, with this connection a person is in touch with his or her own unique creative intelligence and divine knowledge. So few of us are even aware of our own divine genius. Mr. Newcomb feels that genius is the prerogative of all human beings and this book offers several approaches to making the connection with one's own divine genius within the context of Abramelin's system.

Newcomb's hip, non-denominational interpretation of Abramelin, yoga, magick and spirituality in general requires only an openness to creating a deeper connection and relationship with the universe and a yearning for a greater understanding of the mysteries of life. If you've ever wanted to obtain enlightenment, but aren't interested in wearing saffron robes and giving away flowers at the airport, this might be the book for you. Newcomb describes himself as a skeptical and pragmatic mystic. In the book he explains that everything from overeating to drug abuse are all misplaced yearnings for the connection with higher consciousness called, "The Knowledge and Conversation of the Holy Guardian Angel."

Newcomb calls upon diverse sources to elucidate his modern mystical hypotheses. In this book you'll find quotes from many places such as "The Spiritual guide" of Christian mystic Miguel de Molinos to ubiquitous quotes from the Victorian drug mystic Aleister Crowley. Newcomb offers exercises and ideas from all of these sources to create a very thorough plan for spiritual awakening. The book is very readable and should be interesting to anyone from the curious to the deeply immersed in the Western Mysteries.

A very satisfying book
I have to disagree with the above editorial. I compared the reproductions with others that I have, and although there are sometimes subtle differences they are not always to the disadvantage of this book. Some pictures are better than others, but the advantage here is that each reproduction is on a page by itself with commentary on an adjoining page-a catalogue layout that I always prefer in that it give the painting room to breathe and because I'm not reading on one page and finding the relevant painting six pages later. The book is obviously done by true lovers of the painter. Chardin is profound and a painter's painter. You can see and feel why he was adored by Cezanne, Soutine, Manet, Proust, and I'm sure many other significant artists. He has rightly been called a virtuoso of stillness. Even in reproduction, pieces of fruit, kitchenware and game animals are alive and quietly glowing from within with a warmth, compassion and a kind of subtle majesty-it's really deep in an indescribable way. In my opinion a very worthwhile purchase.

Beautiful!
This book is simply gorgeous. I had been well acquainted with Chardin a number of years ago, and picked up this book on a whim at the store. Rediscovering this master was a true delight. His paintings are deceptively simple: behind the cool colors and the measured scenes lies a captivating energy. This particular volume is very well done. The reproductions are of superior quality and the accompanying essays by the world's most renowned Chardin expert are enjoyable and enlightening. Art books are expensive, but this is one that is well worth the investment.

A good book for anyone to have
I am about to enter a 4 month training school to be a Pharmacy Tech in the military. I wanted something to look over to generally familiarize myself with some common drugs, without too much overwhelming or detailed information. This book is perfect for that. It's quite a big book with lots and lots of different drug profiles, including common brand names of that drug and some very very general info about what it does, how it works, side effects, etc. It has an index of different categories of diseases and ailments that you can use to search for a specific drug, or you can search by the brand name to find the actual drug (ie searching for Tylenol takes to to Acetamenophin and so on...). Otherwise you can simply flip through the drugs alphabetically. I wish the explainations of how they work were a little more in depth, but for it's purpose it works perfectly as a very easy-to-comprehend reference guide for the general population on drugs. And it's nicely packaged to boot with sturdy smooth pages and color pictures - not cheaply made at all.

A super reference book
This book could not be more easy to use! Everything you need to know about the drug on one page! Very current, and from Johns Hopkins, no less. It has a great index, with both generic names and brand names listed, and is fully illustrated in color. An excellent book to own or give as a gift. the chart on grapefruit juice interactions could save your life!

Extensive and right on target
From the highly respected John Hopkins University Medical School, "The John Hopkins Medical Guide to Health After 50" provides extensive information in an easy to use and easy to understand format. It is logically divided into three major divisions plus several extremely useful appendices. The three major divisions are Disease Prevention, a thorough Body Atlas, and the alphabetic Guide to Medical Disorders.

The section on Disease Prevention includes information on longevity, exercises, diet, Weight control, smoking, alcohol, and screening tests. It carefully discusses each of these items and their importance to keeping healthy.

The section on the Body Atlas is exactly what you would expect from the name. It is thoroughly illustrated and covers all major organs and structures of the body including the skeletal system, eyes, ears, endocrine system, digestive system, and others. The only one that I found lacking was the part on the muscular system. With a frontal view of the muscular system it clearly shows how they relate to each other, however, there was no illustration of the muscular system of the back. Since back problems are fairly common as we age I would have like to have seen a view of the back muscles in addition to the frontal. All the illustrations provided are detailed, in full color and well designed.

The Medical Disorders division is by far the most extensive section. It covers all the expected items such as arthritis, breast cancer, chronic pain, coronary disease, and emphysema. But it also includes some unexpected topics such as bipolar disorder, sleeping problems, and even wrinkles. Each disorder typically include information on causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options, side effects, involved structures, current research, and alternative therapies. It is easy to look through a particular disorder and come away with sufficient knowledge to intelligently discuss the condition with your physician. Knowing what questions to ask and the purpose of a suggested treatment regimen is a critical step in taking control and responsibility for your own health. This book provides you with that knowledge.

A very highly recommended book, it is extensive in its coverage, filled with excellent illustrations that clearly demonstrate the accompanying text, contains a medical glossary, and a thorough listing of support groups and organizations for various disorders. With over a hundred specific ailments common in people over 50 this is an important reference text for any home.

An excellent book, beautifully produced
A terrific guide to all of the major medical disorders for people who reach a certain age! Easy use A to Z format, colorful illustrations, and written in clear language, this is a must-have medical book for yourself, or for a loved one. It is ideal for people caring for their elderly relatives as well.

Tough and funny Grist is at top form in this new mystery.
I'm not impartial. I love Simeon Grist. The reluctant batchelor detective with wandering eyes, a handful of graduate degrees, and a soft heart is one of my favorite characters in crime fiction. This time, Simeon is hired to look into a questionable situation that ends up as murder. And Simeon's client is either a) the killer, or b) the next victim. Simeon has to discover why the killer is killing, find the person responsible, keep anyone else from getting killed, and, incidentally, keep himself from becoming the next victim. Hallinan continues his successful series of Simeon Grist mysteries, and they just keep getting better with each book. His fans definately won't be disappointed with this one.

The life and times of an American castle.
This book gives an intimate look at one of "America's Castles" from inside and out. The history of the building site is covered, as is the design and construction of the buildings. The life and times of W.R. Hearst and his friends and loved ones are presented in such a way as to flesh out the character of the house.

I just finished reading this book, and I'm tempted to pick it up and start all over again. This is one that I'll reread often.

The layout of the book is interesting and eye-catching, but the tints used on the pages sometimes make the text difficult to read. Make sure you sit down with this book in a very well-lit room -- not only will light make it that much easier to read, you'll be able to enjoy the wonderful pictures more easily.

Hearst Castle Fans Should Not Miss This!
A first rate account of the building of "La Cuesta Encantada" with new information I have not found in other Hearst Castle books or by taking the castle tours many, many times since I was a little girl. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't wait to visit the castle again with this new knowledge.

This book is useful on several levels.
I do not know about you? But I do not notice things in front of my face unless someone points them out to me. When I go to museums I need to go twice once with someone to point things out and again for my own exploration. I used this book for the point out phase. It is more intricate than a biography film.

There are several color pictures (259 illustrations) that point out items of interest, many more with maps and history (157 plates in full color). There is an expansive preface, forward, introduction, and prologue. There are twelve chapters that carry you on a historical tour of the castle.

I am not going to go through the book, as that is why you are purchasing the book and not the review. However on a personal note after looking at the book I went to the castle. I stayed overnight on the San Simeon coast to complete the tours in two days. As with all pictures the pale compared the real thing. However you now can use the book for memories. I did bring a camera. However you are not allowed to use a flash. And I have to admit that Victoria Garagliano is a better photographer. I think the cover shows the most impressive part of the castle. The Roman pool is located inside and under the tennis court. Just like the picture it is cool quiet and reflective. I did want to jump in just for the fun of it.

Now I leave the book on the coffee table so some unsuspecting person (and they are rare) will ask me about it.
