Livin' La Vida Mocha
Nothing piques the morbid fascination of a dinner guest quite like a platter of veal frappuccino. Top it off with a decaffeinated stock reduction and you're a host whose meals will be recounted for decades. This book has afforded us years of excellent in-home dining, as well as cheap laughter. My wife also once used it to great effect in ridding us of an in-law babysitter that she considered too sultry and promiscuous for duty. She merely left Carmen (her young cousin, who served briefly as our sitter to my unbounded delight) with a tray of Chicken Satay Latte that she had secretly made with thrice the active ingredient. Carmen dutifully served it to the twins at dinnertime, and by the time we returned she had permanently sworn off of babysitting - as well as motherhood, marriage, and quite possibly the male gender, which she rightly surmised was in large part to blame for the scourge of children.

Guilty pleasures from corporate America
Okay, being the quintesential lefty feminist, I theoretically had better keep a distance from major multinational corporations, but I just can't abstain from Starbucks! Even if they are part of the "corporatization" of America, I proudly declare my love for them.

Since it first came to my hometown (to somehow tie in with the "Alterna-rock" facination with all things pacific NW) I fell in love with their coffee--and related concoctions. Following a stressful (but adventurous day) there is nothing more relaxing than drinking one of their numerous creations and feeling the world melt away.

The recipies in this book continue the romance by providing easy to follow recipies to satisfy the coffee lover in everybody. Little to no previous cooking experience is required, as the point of this cookbook is to help everybody wind down in a deliciously rich way.

Ten minutes crash briefing...
This book looks small but contains a lot. Whether you are a student or just an enthusiastic it is good idea to have a book that fits in to your pocket. Again do not underestimate that book just because of "pocket". It delightfully explains buildings and architecture from the ages point of view to the architectural styles, materials with a basic graphics and pictures. You don't have to spend any afford for technical terms since each of them point with the arrows at the pictures. You can often see famous buildings at the different countries. In short it's fun the browse yet it teaches either you are at the subway or in the class waiting for your teacher.

Challenging Mazes
The mazes in this book are challenging for older age groups. Personally, I think the age group recommended is too low! This makes a great car or travel book for preteen and older kids. Don't let the price fool you...this is a very good collection of mazes!

The Best Duck Book Out There!
I highly recommend this book. Dave Holderread really knows his ducks. This book is a must for the duck enthusiast, no matter what breed you're interested in. I would also recommend purchasing your ducks from Dave, especially if you're just starting out, his ducks prove that he knows what he's doing. Check the directory in the back of the book for a whole flock of the best duck breeders out there!

Best of the Storey's guides
Dave Holderread has written a superb book. I am a beginner just getting interested in ducks and this book is perfect. It goes into a great deal of description about the various breeds and talks about everything practical you would want to know, from incubation to hybridizing.

A must for duck raisers!! Tonasket, WA 2002
Absolutely necessary for beginning or long-time duck raisers. This book covers all subjects you'll want to browse before and after buying ducks. Great for resources in other books too, I should know, I mention this book in my new small-farm animal book for raising livestock. You'll surely enjoy all the facts and incredible information from hatching to breeding to raising ducks in this book...

This book is very helpful.
I recently bought this book to help me write up estamates, it has proved very helpful, especially the program that comes with it. I would recomend this book to any one who is in the construction bussiness, I plan on buying 2 more of the books by this author.

Good coverage of residential construction costs.
Good coverage of labor and material costs for residential construction plus about 200 pages of costs for light commercial work. Intended primarily for the professional estimator, not do-it-yourself builders. Unlike other building cost references, descriptions are complete -- explains what's included and excluded in each estimate. CD in the back includes all costs in this 450-page book plus a good, professional-quality estimating program(!).

Very hard learning curve, not for beginners.
I'm a user of 3D Studio R4, and so I thought that I could easily transfer the lofting skills into 3ds max without too much of a problem. This book, however, doesn't use many of the techniques used in the Inside 3DStudioR4 book by New Riders. It's definitely not for beginning users looking to learn the fundamentals of using 3DSmax. I was disappointed at its learning curve, but I assume if you're comfortable with 3DSmax1, then this book might be for you. If somebody knows a book for 3DSmax2 that is in the same vein as Inside 3DStudio R4, then please email me ;)

GREAT BOOK!!
Many books on the market will give you step by step instructions how how to create a scene, or create certain effects. Although this is sometimes handy, it doesn't easially allow the user to incorperate the skills they learned into their own work.

Inside 3D Studio Max shows you the concepts behind how the program works, and allows you to apply these concepts, and skills to your own work, rather than a preformatted tutorial. It is this fact, however, that makes the book not extremely useful for modelers who are new to the program. This book often speaks of the manual which ships with 3DS Max, and the writer made it clear that this was not yet ANOTHER MANUAL. Inside 3D Studio Max explores how to expand your ability.

If you have no prior modeling practice, read the manual which ships with Max, then buy this book. If you do that, you will appreciate what is taught in this massive book.

This is an overall GREAT book, and it has really helped me to become a much better 3D artist.

Another Classic from the Masters
There's a thing common to all classic books: even if you've read one from cover to cover you discover something new every time you open it. Things that you glossed over earlier suddenly start to make sense. This book is no exception. Since 'Inside 3D Studio Rel. 3' the authors have provided an unique insight into the world's most popular 3D programs. This book raises the standard even further, providing enough grip for the novice and a treasure trove of knowledge of the professional. The best thing about this book is the explanation of the PRINCIPLES behind 3D Studio MAX. Instead of the 'do this-screen shot-do that' methodology, the authors have concentrated in the core ideas behind every tool and procedure. If you want MAX to be an extension to your right brain, get this book. Read it all the time. Do the tutorials. Keep referring to it for ideas. You'll discover what you were missing with other books -- the real goods on making MAX dance to your tune.

Check Sports Illustrated Article on Colorado 1988
before purchasing this book. McCartney ran what was arguably (not really) one of the more criminally inclined and out-of-control football programs in America during the late 1980s through the early 1990s. The criminality wasn't the usual low-rent criminality associated with many college powerhouse programs i.e. ticket scalping, casual drug use, and drunken driving. Try rampant rape by football players, drug dealing, extortion, etc. The amount of criminal activity surrounding Pastor McCartney's team was so great that the local police used to carry copies of the football program to show potential crime victims. The week that Barry Switzer's last Oklahoma football program made the cover of Sports Illustrated for their off-the-field shennanigans, Colorado also managed to land an article, featuring the exploits of Buffalo football players, all recruited and coached by none other than Coach McCartney. Before McCartney continues his preaching to American males, he might want to offer an explanation for the conduct of his former players.

One of the best I've ever read
This was a very touching and moving book.I hate to read and I never wanted to put it down.

Great Christian Reading
This book is for those coaches who still believe there is a place for christianity in today's football. For the coach who inspires to be the best christian, father, husband, coach and friend he can be.

Why waster your money?
There is little point to buy this book unless you wanted a printed copy with a CD-ROM since the author has made and keep updated the website containing the same information.

Of course, it doesn't mean the content, which is basically just a list and short explanation of a vast range of sound/music related software, is bad especially for linux beginners. However, at this price, I cannnot recommend to buy one.

Very good book BUT: it's not a programming book
The book's quite good, well made, lot of pictures, covers a lot of ground. However, please adjust your expectations: it is not a programming book. Also, it's not an overall multimedia reference (like the older O'Reilly book), it's only about sound. With that in mind, it's a very helpful book to get a pretty good understanding of the state of computer sound under linux and applications/toolkits available for it.

great starting point
Having a firm grasp of the english language, I feel that I can pay the proper amount of dignity to such a well written book.

Having run Linux for a few years, I felt it was time to venture into the realm of music and sound. Mr. Phillip's book was the perfect starting place. The writing was concise and accurate and it effortlessly guided me through some tough spot's.

When I would hit the wall on some application's the author himself was very prompt and courteous and saw me through it with a volley of email exchange's. Let's see Bill Gates reply to the end user the next time he get's a 'Blue Screen of Death'?!?!

Money well spent. I would recommend this "one of a kind" book to any Linux user curious about the world of computer music and sound. Bravo!

J.

Needs more indepth descriptions
This book is great for actually stepping through installing and configuring the infrastructure. All chapters have sections that have screen shots and how to instructions. However, if you are trying to pass the 70-217 you need more than step by step how to instructions. You need answers to why something works, and this book does not provide those answers.

Good, but not good enough
New Riders belong to my top 5 MCSE book authors, but I am a little disappointed about this one.

There are several errors in the book, and some wrong cross referrals. Which means they say to look in a particulair chapter to find specific information, and after re-reading the chapter several times you cannot find to what the referred.

Furthermore I think they don't go deep enough on some subjects. There could be more challenging Step-by-steps then provided in the book, like more step-by-steps for problems you may encounter real-world.

So why is New Riders still in my Top 5?
A very positive thing about New Riders books is that they are easy to read, and make difficult and technical problems more consumable for the less experienced users. Especially users whose native language isn't English (like me :-D).

User who still think they need some extra information on this particulair exam, I would recommend Windows 2000 Network Infrastructure Administration: Study Guide with ISBN 0782129498.
70-216 is one of, if not the most, tough exam in the MCSE track, so I think you'll need it.

Not your sole reference.
This book is not a bad book. It covers the topics from the Table of Contents quite well. Unfortunately, it does not cover ALL of the exam topics. Newriders is my publisher of choice for MCSE 2000. This book is the weakest link in the series so far (6 down, 1 to go, passed each exam on first attempt) To be fair to the publisher, this is probably the toughest exam of the series. Quite the skull scratcher.

My feelings about the prep books on the market for this exam leave me a bit torn. Seems reasonable that the toughest exam would cause a writer to generate a weak book, then again, wouldn't you expect the publisher to put their absolute strongest writing up against the toughest MCSE exam? I used 2 other books to prep for this exam, Exam Cram for 216, and belive it or not, Exam Cram for TCP/IP, since both the Newriders 216 book and the Exam Cram 216 book refer you to other works when it comes to covering subnetting. I guess they felt that previous books covered that material so well, that to try again would offend the gods.

My point is this: this is a tough exam, and all of the prep companies have sold us short. This is the thinnest book in each publisher's series. You might need more that one vendor's prep book for this test. Using 2 other books got me through it first time. My coworker needed 2 tries to pass. Best of luck to you. Hope this helps you in your efforts.

Confusing, convoluted, not worth your money.
This text is one of the most hard-to-read finance book I have ever come across. The authors must have been mentally retarded or on drugs, or something. Instead of explaining a concept in one page Brigham and company will take up to 30 pages to explain in the most confusing twisted language. I pity the student who has to go thru what I went thru to learn intermediate finance concepts. This book is the biggest waste of your hard earned money!

Average
I wasn't too impressed with this text. I found that many of the chapters were incredibly verbose, and seemed to confuse me even more in some instances. Perhaps one of the problems (obviously not Brigham's fault) was that my prof "wizzed" through some of these chapters, so reading the "wordy, never-ending" chapters was overwhelming. Further, I think that some concepts could have been more simplified, when instead Brigham seemed to ramble and "lost" me.

In short, I think some "academics" (profs, grad students, etc) might be impressed with the depth with which Brigham wrote. However, not all of the students are on the same level, and this must be taken into consideration when the author revises the text. We are using the text as a guide for learning, not as a means to evaluate the author's aptitude in the field of finance...

Easy to read
easy to read and cover in every topic.
