This is the long awaited basic textbook for osteopathic medicine. It is surprisingly complete, covering philosophy, history, research, and manipulative techniques. The beginning osteopathic student may find it most useful for its practical discussion on the techniques--high velocity, myofascial release, etc. I believe it is also helpful in standardizing our terminology, which will make it easier when taking board exams or talking with colleagues from other osteopathic schools. It includes contributors well known within the osteopathic community, including Michael and William Kuchera, Melicien Tettambel, Eileen DiGiovanna, and many others. As a family practice resident I frequently turn to this textbook first when I want to know more about how to treat a patient or when preparing lectures for students and housestaff.

This text is actually required reading for most if not all osteopathic medical students. It is a 'textbook', however, and hence completely (sometimes exhaustively!) comprehensive. But it is easy to read so that anyone with an interest in OMT will get a methodic how-to for myriad techniques, also a thorough history of osteopathic medicine to boot! One of my OMT professors at the University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine wrote or co-wrote a few of the chapters so of course, I think those are the best! If you are looking for an educational approach to learning manipulation and the reasons behind it, this is a valuable resouce.

This book is a tour de force for Prof. Peterson. He details many philosophies that are competing for the allegiance of America's intellectuals and educated laymen/laywomen. Probably one should already have some background in philosophy in order to properly understand his opening chapters analyzing naturalism, experimentalism, idealism, Thomistic realism, existentialism, and other theories of human nature, existence, the knowability of reality, deconstructivism and a host of other complex subjects.
I hope there are some people out there who have studied a lot of philosophy, who love philosophy, but never got into the academic mode. I am one of that "disenfranchised" crew who as a philosopher, and often as a Christian, feels marginalized by our materialistic society with its many non-Jesus-oriented philosophies, and I often feel alienated from Christians because many do not go into the conceptual depths with me. If you are in this position, you'll love the opening chapters, and go on happily to the end. ((Even though philosophy should be digested slowly, I was so pleased, I read the book in one sitting.))
For other Christians who are not as gripped by philosophy and the history of ideas, I recommend that you just read the last two chapters which emphasize excellence in education. They make great stand alone reading, and, even if you're out of work and low on funds, they are worth the price of the entire book.

Anyone who likes the writings of E. Hirsch Jr., William Bennett, or David Noebbel will love this book. However, be forewarned: it is written at a higher level of rigor and has a more powerful vocabulary than any other popular theorists of education now on the market.

Anyone who would write Peterson off as a fundamentalist either hasn't done his research or is simply biased. This book needs to be read by more fundamentalists and others in Christian and secular cultures. Peterson is also a Kentucky fan. A fundamentalist Kentucky fan. That's the only time you'll hear Peterson's name mentioned alongside fundamentalism.

Now in a newly updated, revised, and expanded edition, Disinherit The IRS by chartered financial consultant E. Michael Kilbourn (President of Kilbourn Associates and Chairman of the Wealth Protection Network, Naples, Florida) is a very practical and "user friendly" guide to minimizing or eliminating personal estate taxes in order to ensure that the money and possessions left to the people and causes intended is not unfairly or unnecessarily eroded by estate taxes or any other form of taxation. Solid and practical advice for protecting personal finances against claims from lawsuits and divorce actions also fill the pages of this useful and informative compendium. Other chapters address such financial planning issues as life insurance, the usefulness of trusts, and sound steps anyone can take to protect their assets. If you have amassed a lifetime of wealth and wish to lawfully minimize the tax man's demands upon it, then acquire and carefully give a serious reading to Michael Kilbourn's Disinherit The IRS!

The book is short only 134 pages but in its brief compass it provides an excellent introduction to the Problem of Evil.

The book argues very effectively that the nature and extent of Evil does not provide sufficient evidence to conclude that the God of traditional theism (good, all-knowing, and all-powerful) does not exist.

A course on Philosophy of Religion should probably balance the course with a book that argues more negatively.

This is one of the best anthologies I've ever found on the issues discussed within Philosophy of Religion. It covers different readings from Saint Teresa of Jesus, St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, up to William Alston, Blaise Pascal, Soren Kierkegaard, C. S. Lwis, John Hick, David Hume, William Rowe among many others. The book selects readings from the following subjects: Religious Experience, Faith and Reason, the attributes of God (the problems of his existence, his omnipotence, his omniscience and its relations with voluntary action, his timelessness, etc), theistic arguments (specially the ontological and cosmological arguments), the problem of evil, knowledge of God, religious language, miracles, among many others. Highly recommended.

I'm a user of 3D Studio R4, and so I thought that I could easily transfer the lofting skills into 3ds max without too much of a problem. This book, however, doesn't use many of the techniques used in the Inside 3DStudioR4 book by New Riders. It's definitely not for beginning users looking to learn the fundamentals of using 3DSmax. I was disappointed at its learning curve, but I assume if you're comfortable with 3DSmax1, then this book might be for you. If somebody knows a book for 3DSmax2 that is in the same vein as Inside 3DStudio R4, then please email me ;)

Many books on the market will give you step by step instructions how how to create a scene, or create certain effects. Although this is sometimes handy, it doesn't easially allow the user to incorperate the skills they learned into their own work.

Inside 3D Studio Max shows you the concepts behind how the program works, and allows you to apply these concepts, and skills to your own work, rather than a preformatted tutorial. It is this fact, however, that makes the book not extremely useful for modelers who are new to the program. This book often speaks of the manual which ships with 3DS Max, and the writer made it clear that this was not yet ANOTHER MANUAL. Inside 3D Studio Max explores how to expand your ability.

If you have no prior modeling practice, read the manual which ships with Max, then buy this book. If you do that, you will appreciate what is taught in this massive book.

This is an overall GREAT book, and it has really helped me to become a much better 3D artist.

There's a thing common to all classic books: even if you've read one from cover to cover you discover something new every time you open it. Things that you glossed over earlier suddenly start to make sense. This book is no exception. Since 'Inside 3D Studio Rel. 3' the authors have provided an unique insight into the world's most popular 3D programs. This book raises the standard even further, providing enough grip for the novice and a treasure trove of knowledge of the professional. The best thing about this book is the explanation of the PRINCIPLES behind 3D Studio MAX. Instead of the 'do this-screen shot-do that' methodology, the authors have concentrated in the core ideas behind every tool and procedure. If you want MAX to be an extension to your right brain, get this book. Read it all the time. Do the tutorials. Keep referring to it for ideas. You'll discover what you were missing with other books -- the real goods on making MAX dance to your tune.

This book is a an easy introduction to the issues about religion and reason. It is about discussions on faith and reason, existence of God from different approaches, miracles and its compatibility with science, ethics and religion. In short all religious concepts and beliefs in relation to reason is discussed and different view points are explained. For each case the streght and weakness of the arguments are highlighted. Language used is not deep philosopical and therefore it is easy to read and understand. There is no conculusive arguments but rather the issues are identified and different responses is studied as general knowledge. It is a good text book for starters. Each chapter ends with list of questions for study with extensive suggested readings list.

This books covers a very broad range of issues. It is not written in a technical but in an accessible way, making it a good introduction to the subject. For each topic it exemplifies some chosen aspects, but this leads to misrepresentations (e. g. of the Kalam argument).. It is written from a Neotheist and evolutionist perspective. To counterbalance its Neotheist emphasis, I would recommend reading "Creating God in the Image of Man" by Norman L Geisler.

The philosophy of religion is a fascinating subject which is getting more attention in recent years. There are any number of introductory works on the subject, but this is one of the best I've seen. It is particularly comprehensive and deals with a number of subjects beyond the traditional topics found in such books, including science and religion, religious pluralism, and life after death. It also introduces the reader to leading thinkers in every area, but avoids excessively technical language. A person who is studying philosophy for the first time or who has a basic knowledge of philosophy but wants to study the philosophy of religion would benefit from reading this book.

The authors are Christians and the writing tends to sympathize with the theistic approach. If you get this book, make sure you get the authors' collection of readings, Philosophy of Religion: Selected Readings.
