DO NOT BUY
This book is a callow attempt at stealing your valuable money. This book does not, in any way, provide scintillating information for the reader, nor does its information prove informative. If you want to lose your money, go right ahead and buy this book for your long hours sitting on the toilet. Otherwise, get a real baseball book; a vibrant one, one replete with color and information, thus fostering a sense of awe, completeness and congeniality.

Invaluable for the baseball nut
Pair this with Baseball America's Baseball Directory and you have a winning combination for planning your baseball vacation. This one even tells you what NOT to eat at the ballparks! This book needs to be expanded.

A Bible for Baseball Fans
The book is an absolute lifesaver. I have always planned to travel around America after I graduate from high school, and this book makes it possible. It has everything from directions to favorite foods at both the stadium and the surrounding area. Also, it provides reasonable and realistic ways to save money. A little money here and a little money there can really add up after a month of so on the road. Even if the book does not feature a place where you want to go, it will provide you with an address and phone number. Not only does this book have virtually every phone number you might ever need but it also has faxes, web sites, etc. Adams and Engel read my mind with this book. I don't have to plan hardly anything because they have accounted for everything.

For those who really want to know Hawaii
This book was a gift to me. I would never have purchased such a stodgy looking guide if I saw it in the bookstore. I actually got the larger Hawaii Handbook covering all of the Hawaiian islands. This book is the Big Island section of that book and includes comprehensive general Hawaiian island information as well. If someone is planning a multiple island trip they should go for the bigger book. Even if you are not going to Hawaii but want to know about Hawaii get this one. I devoured this book during the long flight to Hawaii and must say it was by far the very best travel guide that I have ever read and used to any destination. (And I have read them all.) It is so comprehensive and the writing is so well done that reading all of the information was almost like reading a page turner novel for me. I could not get enough. Once we were in Hawaii we found this guide totally indispensible. We traveled with a few other nice guides but, with all of their color photograpy and fancy maps, eventually this one was the only one we felt was worthwhile. (You can get all the maps you will ever need once you get there.) After touring extensively I read it with even more interest on the long flight home. We plan to return to tour just the Big Island and this is the one we will bring. It is not glitzy it is the real thing. Enjoy.

A cool back-door view of island culture
What I like about this one is its emphasis on local specialties and culture. This is a hallmark of Moon's guides in particular, and this one is no exception. The only thing missing is color photos. Buy it!

Great guidebook
I used J.D.'s guidebook to all of Hawaii last trip in '92 and I'm glad that he's written one specifically for the big island. I've bought this one in preparation for this year's trip to the big island. If you want to know more than which of the big resorts are the best then this guidebook is great!

This book saved us money
This is a great book, very candid and straightforward. I bought two other books before our trip to Disney and this one was by far the best. It provided great tips to save money and time not only at Disney, but also for the other attractions in and around Orlando.

Excellent and Concise Guide to the Grand Canyon
This guide provides all the information that you will need for an initial visit to the grand canyon. Both the North and South Rims are covered in some detail and although someone seeking a back-county guide may be disappointed, the average visitor should find more than enough material to plan and enjoy their visit.

Excellent variety of smoke cooking recipes.
A complete and interesting compendium of recipes and smoke cooking methods. The advanced smoke cooker will enjoy this book and find some new ideas within. The section on sausages and pemican, two of the advanced smoke cooking skills, are expecially helpful. The beginer may be disapointed in the results of applying the recipes due to one major oversight.

The heart and soul of good smoked food is the cure. Smoke goes on the food last. This book although mentioning cures of many types fails to make this point clear and to provide the first time smoke cook with a simple first time recipe. In fact, the cure recipes provided do not have anywhere near enough sugar in them. Having smoked foods for 20 years I have found that the taste for sugar is strong and if not enough sugar is used the complaint of smoked food is that there is too much salt. First timers should use the cure on page 39 but substitute 4 parts sugar to 1 part salt. And don't leave the sugar out of meat cures like the author does.

Curing time is not covered adequately either. Lean meat absorbs salt while fat absorbs sugar (more or less), and time in the cure makes a huge difference in the saltiness of the food. The longer in the brine, the saltier the food will taste. The leaner the meat, the saltier the food will taste. Never leave your meat in the cure longer than the recipe states, or you will have salty meat.

Buy this book to improve your smoke cooking skills, but not to learn how to smoke cook if you have never done so before.

Not much here, I recommend Birnbaum's Disneyland instead.
There are some good hints here, but do not be mislead by the title. For a complete book on Disneyland and California Adventure, I highly recommend Birnbaum's Disneyland Resort 2003, Expert Advice From The Inside Source. Birnbaum's Disneyland is updated annually and published every year.

My Vacation Bible!
I first checked this book out from my library because my husband and I wanted to get the most out of our four days at Disneyland with our two young children. This book had all the little details that we needed to know! We followed the suggested game plan and got on the most popular rides with hardly any wait times. And I loved knowing where some little out of the way resting spots are. I think everyone who is planning a vacation to the Anaheim area should read this book. It is filled with fantastic info.

Good for the first few days, light on activities coverage
Frommer's Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks good overall guide to the area. It's descriptions of the lodging choices and the dining descriptions were very good although it omitted the Geyser Grill in the Old Faithful area. The descriptions of activities in GT were very good, but the descriptions of activities in YNP were lacking. There were some omissions: the Antelope Creek Drainage area and the Brink of the Upper/Lower Falls trails. Some felt the Norris Geyser Basin highly overrated as was the West Thumb Geyser Basin and Osprey Falls. This book is a great starting point but by no means should it be the only book you have. It's perfect for making your dining and lodging choices but suffers in adequately describing activities (for that check out 'An Outdoor Family Guide to Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks' by Lisa Gollin Evans).
