Quick journey through time with Maryland b-ball and Cole
In March 2002, a great piece of sports history closed its doors for the last time...Cole Field House. Home to the University of Maryland Terrapin basketball teams for 47 years, the 2001-2002 season was the last season that Cole would be host some of the greatest college basketball ever played. "Cole Classics" is a wonderful way to journey through the past and remember all the great moments that were visited upon hardwood there. "Cole Classics" remembers all the great games, from Maryland's 'slowdown' victory over #2 South Carolina back in the early 1970's to a stunning overtime victory in 1998 over a #1 North Carolina team just 10 days after getting dismantled by Duke, to 2001's 35-point season finale destruction of a good Virginia team that foreshadowed Maryland's run to the Final Four for the first time in history. In addition to highlighting the great games, "Cole Classics" also remember the great players and coaches who graced the Maryland program through the years.

Published prior to Cole's last season in order to capitalize on the nostalgia and demand for memorabilia of this arena, "Cole Classics" is missing a key element, the final season. In this final year, Maryland added another #1-ranked victim to its count when Maryland hammered Duke 87-73 in the last game to be played by these two teams at Cole. There is probably no other arena in the country that has proven to be a graveyard to as many #1 ranked opponents as Cole. In addition, Maryland finished the season undefeated at home for only the third time in school history. Oh, and there was that little think about a National Championship. This would have been a satisfyingly complete remembrance of Cole if the publishers had waited and the last season had been included. Aside from that omission, however, "Cole Classics" still serves as a marvelous scrapbook at one of the true sports landmarks in college basketball.

Very Enjoyable
The book has a great way of jogging your memory of those great ACC battles from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Each mini-chapter tells the story of the old Maryland stars and big games. The book has lots of great photos and terrific quotes like this one from Derrick Lewis:

"We ran one play all year and we got away with it because Lenny [Bias] played like Superman. He was double-teamed and triple-teamed every night, and they couldn't stop him. I remember asking him, 'How do you do it?' Lenny said, 'If you want it more than they do, they can't stop you. You have to be intense all the time and you won't have a problem.' "

The final chapters bring you up to this year's team by including profiles of Gary Williams, Juan Dixon, and Lonny Baxter. Terp fans will really enjoy it.

Fear the Turtle!

ACC basketball at its best
I never missed a home game in 4 years in the ACC. This book brings back the feeling of a game -- the heat, the noise, the raucous fun. Great stories and quotes from players that I'd never heard before, they open up to tell what they loved about the game and the forum and what drove them to win. A quick read, an excellent gift for any fan of the ACC or college basketball. When Cole Field House goes inactive, it'll be a sad day in Maryland (although a happy one in North Carolina!).

o.k.
Ian Malcolm and John Hammond both die at the end of Jurassic park and yet in the sequal Lost World they are both alive again.

Smart and accurate, this book asks a lot of, "what ifs."
I am a budding biology teacher, and I found the book to be very factual and technically accurate. I have had a fascination for dinosaurs since I was a kid, and genetics became an interest in college. The books and blockbuster movies have intrigued me greatly. This book brought the printed page and the film strips from the silver screen and the bookshelves to the dissecting table in a unique fashion that is fair truthful and quite humorous at times.

A must read for anyone interested in science.
This book is a very easy to read, amazingly detailed look at what it would take, in reality, to bring a dinosaur back to life with fossilized DNA (fragments). In his step-by-step approach he takes you through the test-tubes, the centrifuges, and especially the problems that would be associated with each step. This book would be very interesting for anyone with the remotest interest in science. It is helpful (not required) to have some general science background to help understand some of the concepts fully. The ONLY slight drawback that I found was that the book has pessimestic overtones throughout about the film "Jurassic Park."

Perfect for any Wildwood by the Sea enthusiast and visitor!
One of the most definitive books ever written on this GREAT summer resort. I grew up in Cape May, and frequented Wildwood all of the time. What I didn't learn from my visits, I learned from this book. It is very detailed and very nostalgic. A very enjoyable read.

A WONDERFUL BOOK, FILLED WITH EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO KNOW!
I have been going to Wildwood every summer since I was a young kid, and it is one of my favorite places in the world (since I was born in Jersey). Recently, I realized that I knew very little about the history of the resort I love so much, and so I decided to buy this book and find out the details. This book is expensive, but I highly recommend it. It thoroughly details Wildwood's history, from its 1890's beginnings through the present day. Now, some people might think 'Oh, it's a historical book, so it must be boring,' but this book holds your attention. It was written in an incredibly good way, and has plently of picutes and illustrations in it, so that you know exactly what the author is talking about. None of it is boring, it has great details about everything you could ever want to know about the Wildwoods, and it covers everything from the beach to the Boardwalk. So, if you love Wildwood and want to know a little more about its history, read this book. It is expensive, but is worth every penny!

THIS BOOK IS ABOUT 10 DOLLARS OVER THE PRICE IN W.W.
BOOK IS EXCELLENT, GOOD HISTORICALL

Good story, not so good writing
Mystery about a man who regains consciousness face down in a park (hence the title). Not only does he have a nasty head wound, he also has complete amnesia. When an aerobics instructor comes to his rescue (reluctantly), the two begin trying to reconstruct his memory. The closer they get to the truth, the more dangerous things look for both of them. The problem with this book was that when two writers write one novel, it comes out clumsy, no matter what they try to do to avoid that. I enjoyed it, but I probably won't look for their others.

gotta read it -fabulous summer read
I had to read it straight through! I loved it! Great characters, great story.

An unpredictable and highly enjoyable read
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was funny at times, always engaging and never predictable. Just when I thought I knew where it was going, it took a new turn. The characters reminded me of real people; some attractive, some flawed, some with an abundance of self importance, many with secrets. I am impressed with the smooth flow and unraveling of the plot accomplished by two authors. Looking forward to their next collaboration.

Unique and Broad, though Slightly Incomplete Guidebook.
Story's first guidebook in the 'Bicycling America's National Parks' series (California) is an excellent all-around cycling guide (and general guidebook) for the Golden State. It's concise, thorough, and balanced, presented in personable, witty language. He includes a variety of road and mountain bike routes for virtually every riding level. His lodging, shopping, and especially dining suggestions are first rate. It includes almost all the information a would-be tourist (as I was) needs for a bicycling trip to CA. Story also throws in some nice tidbits about natural and cultural history of each park, as well as description of fauna and flora (plants and animals), and worthwhile less-known attractions.

This guide from Story features most of the same attributes as his previous guide. He includes a variety of rides that highlight the nearly infinite geographical and ecological diversity of Oregon and Washington. Once again, he includes abundant, but concise information and recommendations related to lodging and related travel info, presented in personable language (though he's not as consisently funny). As before, he provides a nice natural and historical background, serving to not just describe, but introduce the reader to each park (or recreational area).

There is one minor shortcoming, relative to Story's National Parks/California book. That guide contained abundant supplemental information related to dining and other special attractions within or near each park. While this guidebook has some info. of that nature, it seems much more sparse. This might be because many trails in Oregon and Washington are in fairly rural areas far from any major (or even minor) population center. This considered, this guidebook still doesn't seem as complete as his California edition, which provided that reader with virtually everything we'd need to plan our trip. This isn't to say this guide is poor, it just doesn't quite match up to the standards of Story's previous guide. Once again, it would be helpful if Story included a general map of each park (this was the only minor problem I had with his CA edition).

Even if it doesn't quite measure up to Story's California guide, Oregon/Washington is still far superior to most other cycling guidebooks available (even allowing for it's uniqueness). It's an indespensible tool for anyone planning a cycling trip to or near the national parks/recreational areas of Oregon and Washington. It's a perfect starting point, though you might want to research the areas more before heading out.

A superb addition to a great series
I purchased this book after reading a glowing review of it from the San Francisco Chronicle. I'm very glad I purchased it. This latest addition to the Bicycling America's National Parks series is informative, helpful, and truly captures the ambience of the different national parks it covers. It's not just national parks, but national recreation areas, and national monuments too, and you really get a sense of where the great bicycling opportunities are in places that also have national-caliber scenery and attractions. After reading the book, I'm definitely planning on using it for a Hells Canyon National Recreation Area trip later this summer. The chapters on Crater Lake, Olympic National Park, and Mount Saint Helens totally appealed to me, cause I've been to those places and wondered about biking there. The author does a great job of showing that the myth that you can't ride offroad in national parks is just that-- a myth. (All the rides are legal, though some do take place just outside park boundaries.) The book presents everything you need to know in a clear, often funny way. The pictures are great too. That's about all I ask from a guidebook.

East of the Mississippi
The National Parks of the Eastern U.S. are lovely and important historic areas, and deserve attention by all travellers to these regions. The Guide to the National Park Areas provides a short overview of each of these areas, including the lesser-known parks in each of the states. For travellers who simply want to know what is available, and what is there, this is a fine resource. However, the book does little more than list the places and tell you a bit about them. Significantly more research would be necessary in order to plan a trip to any of these places or to get much out of a visit.

A helplful guide if you plan to travel east
We found the fifth edition of this guide to be very helpful during a recent East Coast visit. The thing that impressed me most was the inclusion of smaller park areas we would ordinarily skip or miss simply because we didn't know about them. In fact, we found many of the smaller park areas (Fort Caroline in Jacksonville, FL) to be very interesting. We highly recommend this guide if you are thinking about taking in the east. We also found the western edition very helplful during our summer trip.

Resourceful, Remarkable, Recommended¿.
It goes without saying that the national parks east of the Mississippi River are both scenic and chronicled with historical lore. David and Kay Scott, experienced campers and authors of The Guide to the National Park Areas: Eastern States, corroborate those claims, substantially and naturally! Accompanying the detailed maps and essential travel information are concise statements about facilities, camping, and fishing for the eastern national park sites. This revision is even more serviceable than the earlier releases! The book is truly outstanding--illustrating the gift of America to its populace!

Review of "A Picture Book of Rosa Parks"
I really enjoyed this book. It is filled with great illustrations and fun & interesting facts that make it a wonderful book to teach children about Rosa's life. I would highly recommend it for all teachers & parents to share with children.

Great book in a series of Picture book biographies
David Adler has done a tremendous job with this biography as with the others in the series. The book is a great introductory biography for young students in grades K-3. Although his biographies have been criticized for being simplistic, I feel this is exactly what makes these books perfect for younger audiences. They were meant to be an INTRODUCTORY biography, not an exhaustive research study. Young listeners will not be bored and will not drown in excessive information. The book is abundantly illustrated with colorful pictures and concludes with a timeline of important dates. My kids, ages 5,8 and 11, love this series.

Not enough Disney
I hate to sound like an ingrate writing this review: Herb Ryman has done some great illustrations. Unfortunately, this book spends too much time showcasing Herb Ryman's non-Disney art--which is pretty mediocre--and not enough space showcasing his Disney work. The highlight of the book--Ryman's first illustration of the soon-to-be-built Disneyland--is spread across two pages, but the page break makes it nearly impossible to decipher what's in the middle of the drawing. (It should have perhaps been on a fold-out, or at least on a single, uninterrupted page.) Other great illustrations, especially early renderings of Tomorrowland, are printed in extremely small 3" images, making them very hard to read. All in all, I'd say don't bother with this book. Ryman's best drawings are already showcased in many other books.

Not so much for Disney historians...
As a general book about the person Herb Ryman, it is very pretty and well made, and deserves 5 stars.
But as a source of info for the Disney historian, all I can say is: get the public library near you to buy a copy.
Personally, I feel I should have waited to buy it until I had the chance to have a look at the contents...

A biblical, practical plan of escape from habitual problems.
I am generally sceptical when I see a book deals with spiritual warfare. So much has been written on the topic that is unbiblical. Anderson's book, however is balanced; it is not a demon under every rock. The intention of the book is not to focus on Satan to satisfy occultic curiousity. Rather it is a practical way of opening your eyes to the causes and cures of real problems you face in your daily life. Your position and identity in Christ is crucial to your success, rather than some ritual or formula. Excellent!

A close look at truth and spiritual warfare.
Neil Anderson's "matter of fact" approach is wonderful. I'm so impressed that the focus is on the use of TRUTH rather than POWER to fight the enemy. It is the truth that sets us free, and Anderson does a fantastic job of making sure biblical truth is emphasized rather than experiencial gimmicks.

The spiritual battle we face is a battle for our mind. Bondage Breaker exposes Satan's tactics of using temptation, accusation and deception by equipping us with the truth that identifies those tactics-- rendering them ineffective.

It is most important that Christians understand their identity in Christ; and the power, authority and freedom we have in knowing God's truth. "The Bondage Breaker" exposes subtle lies, and helps clarify what our focus should be.

This book is especially good for those who are struggling with negative or sinful thoughts; addictive behavior; issues of guilt or unforgivness and intense spiritual attacks.

Every Christian should get "The Bondage Breaker"!
