Sequoyah was a great leader in the Tribal Council. He took Ah-yo-keh, his daughter, with him to the Tribal Council meetings everyday. The white men thought Sequoyah had bad magic and set the cabin on fire to get rid of him. It destroyed all his years of hard work. He was making an alphabet for the Cherokees. Everyone wanted to learn how to read and write. Soon they started their own newspaper called the Cherokee Phoenix. Sequoyah was a great leader and his work was important.

This book is perfect for the exasperated parents of sleep refusing children. The rhyming situations presented by the royal parents and their subjects create an enjoyable bedtime farce. As the all too excited prince enjoys each hapless solution to his sleepless condition a sweet and fanciful bed-time story is woven. The illustrations are colourful, creative,and stylistic. This book has been an all time favorite in our house for 12 years...we are ready for a new copy the old one has been so well loved!! Enjoy...

I have been buying this guide since my five year old was born. I can't buy a toy without consulting it. There is so much junk out there and my kids' imaginations and my dollars are too precious to waste on junk. I even keep a typewritten list of all their recommended toys/books/videos appropriate for my children in my purse. That way I'm always ready when I spy a sale. This book has helped my never pay full price for anything and my Christmas/birthday shopping is done well in advance.

This is the kind of book that no one thinks they need to buy but that all your friends want to borrow once you've got it. Even parents who insist on simplicity and refuse to buy the new, plastic gizmos that kids clamor for each year, will appreciate the suggestions for music, literature, and classic toys. Ones that will be passed down through the generations. Ones that you played with as a kid but may have forgotten or didn't realize were still around. Founded in 1989, the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio is the only independent consumer review of children's products, everything from literature and audio/video to learning toys, top-rated science products and big ticket items. The testers are real "families from all walks of life" and the criteria used to determine a toys suitability for a coveted listing in this yearly manual include: product design, safety and interactivity, developmental appropriateness, learning and entertainment value, and more. This latest edition makes me wish my kids were younger, so I could play with the new toys they recommend.

My daughter is developmentally delayed, but loves music, and Eency Weency Spider was her first favorite song. I really like this expanded version of the poem, especially the 'refrain', "Oh, Eency Weency Spider, weave your silvery web. Oh Eency Weency Spider, spin your silvery thread. Upsy-downsy outs and ins, see how Eency Weency spins!" Eency Weency also gets incorporated into the poems about a fly, Little Miss Muffet, Humpty Dumpty and Little Jack Horner. The rhymes are sometimes a little awkward (I try to sing the book to my girls), but the illustrations are pretty and Eency Weency is cute and colorful. Never since Charlotte's Web have I liked a spider so well, and I don't like spiders.

This is a great book for young children about drugs, risk-taking and peer pressure. Slippery Slick is "cat" who appears again and again to Clever Kitten, offering all sorts of temptations, from pills from the medicine cabinet to hypodermic needles. But Clever Kitten knows how to answer him every time. The refrain ("No way, Slippery Slick! No Way!"), is very catchy, and children will quickly catch on and join in. The illustrations are colourful and eye-catching. A fun way to touch on a serious topic.
