He Saw Angel Mist...
Zach is tending to his flock of sheep down the hill when angels appear to his brothers and tell them to go to Bethlehem. When Zach returns to the campfire, he finds a note telling him where his brothers went, and that they saw angels. Zach doesn't believe them, but then he looks up and on the tree is angel mist. Now Zach must go to Bethlehem too, he wants to see angels. But he has one problem, he can't leave his sheep alone, they're the stupidest sheep in the world. So Zach starts to make his way to Bethlehem with the sheep. Along the way, he meets up with several problems - sheep thieves, a river, and a hill that his sheep can't climb. At each test of his patience with his sheep, there is always someone who comes to Zach's rescue. And strangely, each rescuer resembles one another. Could this be the angel Zach was looking for?

Energetic and fun
This engaging, infectious tall tale is lots of fun. It's a rollicking story about a girl who sets out to be the world's best fisherman and catch a whale. Undeterred by the fact that it's a mammal, she hooks one with her fishing rod, and ends up taken for a ride. She makes herself at home in the whale's belly, keeps warm in the Arctic by singing sea shanties, and eventually steers the whale home. The tale's outrageous tone never falters and Peg is so brash and insistent that she's believable, despite the outlandishness of her story.

Sunwing Review
This book is one of the best books I have ever read in my life. There is never a dull moment. In the book, cannibal bat Goth, who was struck by lightning in 'Silverwing', flys off in search of the jungle, his homeland. Southern bat god Cama Zotz heals his scars and burns, and tells Goth to go back to the Humans. At this place, Goth and enemy Shade meet again. When Goth gets back to the jungle, he finds out he been crowned King of all the Vampyrum Spectrum (cannibal bats). An eclipse is coming up, and sun-lover Shade Silverwing must come up with a way to stop Goth from stealing the sun forever.
It is a beyond amazing book, so don't delay and read it now! I stayed up all night reading it, and it was all I could think about. Don't hesitate! Read 'Sunwing' today!

Sunwing: A fantastic sequel to a fantastic book
This is the story of Shade, a young silverwing bat. As in "Silverwing," nothing is as it seems. When he and his family and friends are trapped in a human-made paradise, everyone else seems content except for Shade, who questions the humans' motives. It is not long before hundreds bats start disappearing. Shade and his Brightwing friend Marina once again embark on a journey that takes them far south to the home of the Vampyrum Spectrum and the homeland of the evil batgod Cama Zotz. What follows is a non-stop adventure that will keep you reading through the night, but I'm not going to spoil the ending for you. You'll have to read it, yourself.

The Silverwing Saga books, are my all time favourites!
I remember a few years ago that i purchased the book "silverwing" from my school's book order, not expectly that the book would turn out the way it was. It was so captivatng, i really am still wondering how Oppel can see through the eyes of a bat the way he does.
Once I finished "silverwing" after not being able to put it down and vowing to buy "sunwing" right away...I didn't. These books seemed a lot more than just books, it was more like a life of Shade.
About 3 years had passed when one day I saw "sunwing" at my school library...I grabbed it right away and was done it just as fast as Silverwing. It was just as captivating and answered all the un-answered questions from "silverwing". I've never really read a book from an author that writes the same way as Oppel, his writings are full of twists and turns that leaves you guessing and best of all reading to find out!
Now if I can just get my hands on "firewing"...

Firewing by Kenneth Oppel
Do you love bats? Even if you don't, you'll love Kenneth Oppel's thrilling series about a bat named Shade Silverwing. Firewing, (the third book in the series,) is a suspense packed adventure, where Shade goes on an amazing journey to save his son, Griffin, who fell through a crevice in the Earth and into the Underworld. On their journey they meet new friends, collide with some enemies, and fall into some deadly traps. Will they survive? Read the book to find out.

The best book EVER!
For The Big Read, most people probably voted for Harry Potter as the best book. But I voted for Firewing, cause its the best book in the history of the world! It is about a Silverwing bat called Griffin who is sucked into the Underworld and,and...its so terribly exciting that I can't tell you how good it is,it would give the game away!Kenneth Oppel, please write another one, please!I used to not like bats, but ever since I read that book,I've been absalutly batty about them!Everyone should read it!Now,enough talking,I'm going to potter off right now and read it!

The Underworld of Zotz
Firewing is 1 of the best books EVER! (^_^) And will be 4 EVER! (^_^) It follows the same great story that Kenneth Oppal has made for the other 2 books in this great series (you're probably very mad at me for saying "IT IS THE BEST AND ALWAYS WILL BE", but that's what it is, so HA!), and both Goth (Don don daaa!) andShade comes back, but has a son and for the 2nd time, he doesn't like the whole 'Migrating thing', but his son falls into the underworld before the 'Migating thing' and his life gets out and saves his friend too. Over all, it is a book you can not put down.

I couldn't put it down!
Silverwing by Kenneth Oppel is one of the best books I have ever read. I love this book because it is very, very, very suspenseful. Kenneth Oppel really gets me into the book from the start to the finish. This book is about a young bat named Shade, the runt of his colony. When owls burn down his colony's home, his colony must travel to Hibernaculum to hibernate and then find a new home. But on the way there, Shade gets lost.... I suggest this book to anyone 8 or older. Also read the sequel, Sunwing. That book is as good as this one! READ THIS BOOK!

This taut thriller is an excellent cure for boredom!
What do you have left once your faith is gone? That's a question we all must wrestle with at some point in our lives; what to believe in, what to hold on to. It's a question that cancer researcher Dr. Laura Donaldson has never had much trouble with. She's always placed her faith in the rational world of science. But when her promising cancer treatment results in her patient's death rather than her recovery, Donaldson's faith is shaken. When the blood of David Haines, a serial killer who preys on doctors, seems to hold out an even greater promise for a cure, her belief system is all but shattered.

FBI agent Kevin Sheldrake struggles with his own demons. As a young man he was a member of a religious cult. When his fellow believers abandoned him, Sheldrake gave up on God; at least, he tried to. But that hole inside him (C.S. Lewis' "God-shaped vacuum") kept aching to be filled and no amount of prayer or fasting would satisfy him. Perhaps there is hope, though, in redemption, the redemption that would come if he could do the Lord's work by capturing a killer.

Those intriguing questions form the philosophical soul of this pulse-pounding thriller, a remarkable debut for Kenneth Oppel, previously known only as the author of children's books. Somewhere along the way, though, he learned to craft tense, page-turning suspense, and all-too-humanly flawed characters who are both intriguing and believable. His prose is swift and deft, and his plotting is equal to that of most more experienced thriller writers.

I eagerly await the next novel from Mr. Oppel. I just hope it's not a kid's book!

Good summer read
Dr. Laura Donaldson is a cancer researcher looking for the elusive cure for cancer, when she happens upon information and evidence of a death row inmate who seems to have an immune system that just eats up cancer cells. David Haines is the death row inmate with the super immune system along with a fanatical religious belief that will not allow him to give his blood. He's on death row for killing numerous doctors. Dr. Laura Donaldson's attempts to acquire a sample of his blood through legal means backfires when Haines makes a somewhat predictable escape from prison. Kevin Sheldrake, the FBI agent who captured Haines the first time, is on the case again. Can they capture him alive?

With a gritty edge of suspense and a little background on cancer and cults, this makes for some entertaining summer reading. You'll see the depths reached by religious fanaticism and the fervor of a scientist with a goal. The ending was left open for a sequel and, to me, a little disappointing.

Recommended.

You have got to read this!!!
Dr. Laura Donaldson has a driving need to find a cure for cancer. She thinks she has found it - but her cure turns out to be worse than the disease. Then she discovers that the blood of a man called Daivd Haines carries the cure - the only problem is that Haines is a religious nut on death row for killing doctors just like Laura. When Laura tries to take samples of Haines blood he escapes from prison - sparking a manhunt. That hunt brings Kevin Sheldrake - the FBI agent who captured Haines - too close to his own past.

I got this book for my mum to read, but after she raved about it I decided to read it for myself - and I do not regret that decision. This is probably the best book I read all year. I am not usually one to read thrillers, but this book had me glued to the sofa until I had finished it. Oppel has an incredible way with words and character development. I felt like I was inside the characters heads throughout the whole novel. Oppel has also created a science fiction that could almost be science fact.

This book builds you up and then carries you down towards a finale that leves you gasping for breath. If you want a mystery and adventure tied into one then you have got to read this.

Great Read, But Not Oppel's Best
Dead Water Zone is a short read, with a very original plot and contains unique characters. I personally love Oppel's work, but others work of his is much better, such as the Silverwing Trilogy. This book's plot is very bizarre, and I found it easy to follow it. But, I can see some of my friend [and other people] getting lost in it's uncannyness. If your a teen, and want a good short read, this is the book you want.
