Seasons of the Heart/Four Complete Novels in One Book

All right overall
Personally, I don't care for the way Janette Oke used the first-person style of writing, with a man as her main character. Her man just doesn't seem like a real man, mainly because he acts and thinks along the same lines as Janette's women do in her other books. Overall, it was a mistake for her to use a guy to tell the story- I think the books would have been vastly better if Janette had used a girl's perspective.
Aside from that complaint-
This story begins with the childhood of the "narrator", and goes through the boy's growing-up years on the farm. Everything is peaceful and happy. Little incidents occur here and there- his grandfather comes to live with them, he gets his first dog, etc. Finally, he becomes a man. One night he overhears the men downstairs discussing the fact that he needs to get married. He decides that yes, he should get married, so bang! he goes out and does it. Then the books tell about his married life (I liked his wife, by the way.) During his married life they go through the Depression and he winds up on a road crew far from home. All of a sudden, at the very end, everything is resolved and he gets to go home.
Generally this story is pretty good, but I've read many books by Janette Oke that are much better. Like I said, I think what messed up this series was trying to use the guy's perspective. It just isn't quite right.

Seasons Series
I am an avid fan of Janette Oke, and have read every thing she has published. This is indeed a wonderful series, with descriptive scenes and true romance. If you haven't tried this one--give it a chance-it is a beautiful story.

A book full of help
Ilove all of mrs okes books she has given me a new perception of life through her books and i would like to thank her for having such an amazing gift and sharing it with the world

Good book, but not the best in the series
So far, I have enjoyed this series very much. However, I thought that book 3 was the best so far. This book is the story of Nicole, more than anyone else, trying to find her place in the world. It is filled with faith, daring, adventure and love. She comes to realize that she must hold firm to her convictions of right and wrong in order to live a happy and successful life. Gordon comes to realize what it is Nicole requires in order to admit her love for him.

Throughout it all, the relationship between family members is strengthened and enriched by the love they share for one another. I am looking forward to book 5 this fall.

A great book!
While Anne settles in England, Nicole sets off to oversee her Uncle Charles's property in Massachusetts. Gordon Goodwin acts as her guide as she first visits her parents, then traverses towards Massachusetts. War and devastation lie in her way.
As Nicole travels, she wonders if she will ever truly find a home, and if she will ever find the right man's love.

Messages of courageous faith, forgiveness, and love are woven into this book. I won't give away the exciting twists and turns, but I will say that I loved this riveting and well-written book!

Enthralling!
I realized what a glorious text this was after I read thru it for the second time. The first time thru I got the impression that the storyline was somewhat scattered. But I was wrong. Thank you, Mrs. Oke and Mr. Bunn, for keeping the language and mannerisms true to the era and cultures portrayed in the books. Nothing is more disappointing and annoying than for the characters in the book to suddenly take on 20th century attitudes and conduct. A precious story...

DELIGHTFUL!
While some of Oke's books were better, this one is still very good. This book is more of a lessons of life type. It shows exactly how each and every teenage female has felt at one point or another. It brings to fore the fact that we all know that life is not always some picnic, but that everything turns out for the best in the end.

An aunt and two neices
Belinda, Clark and Marty Davis' late in life child is soft hearted, hates to see any living creature hurt or dead. Her brother Luke, now a doctor encourages her to become a nurse. He feels she has medical potential. Melissa, Belinda's neice comes from the west to finish high school and then later trains to become a school teacher. Amy Jo, Clare and Kate's daughter, who has a very close friendship with Belinda becomes especially close to Melissa and Belinda feels her and Amy Jo will no longer have the closeness they have once had. All three girls become involved with the sam guy.

Not as good as the first book
The first part of this book, in which Elizabeth and Wynn prepare for the wedding, actually get married, take their honeymoon, and travel to Wynn's station out in the wilderness, is all pretty good and interesting. Once Janette Oke gets Elizabeth settled out there, however, the book lost its appeal for me for two reasons. First, the author obviously relied quite a bit on "Mrs. Mike" to supply her with incidents. Second, whatever she couldn't take from "Mrs. Mike," she made up for with stereotypes and unbelievability. I recommend that you read "Mrs. Mike" instead of this book once you get to the point where Elizabeth and Wynn get settled in the wilderness.

Delightfull
Another one of her grand old books. However I do believe the auto version of this book has about the sweetist voices I've have ever had the pleasure of listing to. Just wish the theme song to Dudly Doright wouldn't have entered my head everytime she mentioned Canadian Mounted Police. Hope you all do better, because it's well worth it.

"Superb!"
Following their wedding Wynn and Elizabeth Delaney head north to Wynn's posting with the Royal North West Mounted Police in Beaver Creek. The change is not easy for Elizabeth, a school teacher from Toronto, but your heart will be warmed by her faith in God and her commitment to her husband event through the tough times. You will become entwined in her life as she steps out of her comfort zone to make friends with the Indians and show God's love to the people of the community. Janette Oke has done a suburb job of portraying history in a way that will have you virtually living it!

It has Potential
I believe this book could have been better. The story line was very good. However, I believe the author, Jeanette Oke, rushed through many of the situations in Cassandra's life (main character). She fit this wonderful fictional characters life in only 222 pages! I didn't feel a part of her life. The beginning was excellent and descriptive. As the book hits the midpoint, I felt rushed and unsatisfied. This makes me leary to read another book by Jeannette Oke.

Great Book!
This was an excellent book! It begins in Montreal, where Cassandra Dell Winston, the daughter of the skilled specialist Dr. Winston. Her father often brings promising young doctors-in-training to dinner, and the spirited Cassandra has her eye on one or two. Once she meets a certain young doctor, though, all thoughts of the other young men eventually vanish from her mind. Cassandra becomes a little bit frustrated when the doctor doesn't ask her to marry him before he leaves for a short trip. However, what Cassie doesn't know is that he wants to set up a practice in the untamed West, so different from her cushy Montreal. But she vows to follow him anywhere, even to an uncivilized land. At first she dislikes her new home, but after awhile she makes new friends and begins a more personal relationship with God. Cassandra's courage and faith help her through her struggles, and she begins to love the little town in the West.

WONDERFULY WRITEN!
It was one of the best books I have ever read! I could not keep my head of the pages. It did not take me long to finish! At the ending I for sure could not put my head out of that book! At the ending it is sad but at the same time it is happy and exiting! It is a funny and sad book. Most of the time it is fun of funny to read! I wih I could write as good as Janette Oke! She is sure a talented writer! I hope you will read it. If you do ENJOY! (Have a nice day)

Drums of Change (J. Oke Classics for Girls, 6)
Published in Hardcover by Bethany House (2003)
Authors: Janette Oke and Natasha Sperling
Amazon base price: $9.99
Average review score:

Slow to start, but a strong finish.
Definitely a slow starter, this one didn't grab me right from the beginning the way most Oke books do, but I was glad I stayed with Running Fawn until the story picked up. While far from the best in the series, _Drums of Change_ shows the huge gap between two cultures very well, as well as the confusion of a girl who is taken from one world and placed into the other. Without a doubt, there are some shining moments, but if you found it a little dragging, try another book from this series before you give up on Janette Oke.

Good for all ages
This an excellent read. Suitable for all ages.

great beginning, not so great ending
The entire story depicts Running Fawn as a strong woman, unwilling to give into the missionaries and their beliefs. The entire ending just doesn't go with the rest of the book, within ten pages, she went from being true to her heritage and beliefs, to a baptized christian. It was disappointing to say the least

I really regret buying this book
This seires is really boring to me. There's hardly any climax. Nothing interesting at all.
But some people do like it, I have to emphasize this point. It's just not of my taste.

A wonderful prarie romance which I've read again & again!
This book is just as good as any other Janette Oke book I've read. You get so involved in the novel that you will think about characters all throughout the day. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I will continue to read all in the series. I recomend all of Oke's books to any reader looking for a good romance.

This is one of the best books I have ever read!
I loved this whole set of books but this one was really special to me. The verse that Clark gave Missy and her husband as they left for their journey has inspired me since I read the book. If you haven't read the book, I stongly encourage you to do that but be sure and read the first two books first. Isa. 41:10

A Bride for Donnigan (G K Hall Large Print Book Series)
Published in Hardcover by G K Hall & Co (1994)
Author: Janette Oke
Amazon base price: $20.95
Average review score:

Not bad
This book started out very good. The last few chapters were terrible. They never gave Donnigan's age but they gave Kathleen's age. I found it odd the Donnigan could sleep with Kathleen but he felt that she was a child? Book had patenshal. Kathleen's part got on my nervouses.

4 stars is pushing it, but it's not worth 3.
"A Bride For Donnigan" was one of the better books by Janette Oke, and started out very interesting. But, there are some hills of good and bad. First off, I found everything too perfect and sugar coated. What are the odds of Donnigan and Kathleen getting along? Much less, falling in love? It might happen, but it would take time. Which leads me into how Oke didn't express how much time goes by, nor the age of Donnigan. We don't know much of anything about Donnigan. Towards the end, the total point of this book was gone. I was hoping for more about their marriage, and the trials and tribulations of it. I did enjoy the characters, nonetheless, and did care about their outcome, but Donnigan seems too good to be true. I'm also glad that a book was finally written about this subject, even if it was just a story book romance. It still doesn't beat "Roses For Mama," but is good all the same. I recommend.

Original and Inspirational
This is different from Janette's other books, but it's great. Oke's writing is once again impeccable. I love her.
