Comprehensive but concise and readable introduction to molecular events involved in synaptic neurotransmission. What else can I say? I read the book once quickly, and then particular sections a second time as an adjunct to other works.

This book is written in a clear style with some excellent diagrams accompanying the text. While jargon is used (impossible to avoid in science) the terms are always explained, making it an easier read (though not a simplistic one) and thus the text flows easily.

One feature which stands out is the logical way in which the information is presented, including a brief index at the beginning of each chapter.

Frequently, cross-reference is made to points made in a previous chapter or paragraph which helps to keep information 'in mind' as the text is read and greatly aids understanding.

The relationship between different ion channels and the receptors which control them (as well as those which are not controlled by receptors !) is not a straightforward one, however this book has managed to unravel the many pathways and show how they can be linked together in synaptic regions.

As I'm trying to write my PhD thesis I have found this book to be invaluable in both providing a logical framework as well as a lot of background information - I wish I'd written it !!

This collection is perfect for those who love Indian literature as well as novices. It strikes a good balance between featuring male and female authors, and has a diverse selection of poems and short stories (as well as Mahadevi Varma's brilliant essay on feminism). Some background knowledge on Indian culture and society might be required, though, as the footnotes did not often explain nuances.

After reading and devouring Dreamweaver 4 Magic, I couldn't wait until Dreamweaver MX Magic was published. Now, I am sort of disappointed with the projects presented in this book. It is more of a book of Dreamweaver MX tips and advice on how to make the most of MX. Still, it is a good book- one that will certainly compliment anyone's knowledge of Dreamweaver MX. The NewRiders site will state that presenting the tips, tricks and advice was their goal. It was certainly achieved. A good read and worth the ticket price, but don't forget to take a more serious look at Dreamweaver 4 Magic.

One of the great joys of life is finding a book that is not only enjoyable, but also well designed and beautiful to look at. Dreamweaver MX Magic is not just clear and concise in relating its information, but also a thing to behold in its design and layout!

Dreamweaver MX Magic assumes you have a working knowledge of Dreamweaver and Fireworks. From this point it sets up projects based on the lesson of each chapter. The files necessary to each project are found on the included disk. The book takes you step by step through each project, using screen grabs to illustrate the necessary actions to be taken.

I highly recommend Dreamweaver MX Magic. My productivity has quickly increased to the point that not only will I ask my boss for a raise, but I should have more time to work on my novel at the office!

BOOK REVIEW: The very first thing you notice when you open the books is the clean page layouts and clearly written instructions. It is laid out in step-by-step, numbered format that makes it very easy to follow. As you work through the various exercises, you will notice blocks of text set in a partially framed green box. These contain various notes, warnings and tips. Dreamweaver MX Magic has plenty of exercises to work through and have graphical views of the work so you can't go wrong on what you are suppose to be learning.

A CD comes with the book and contains the following information: all the project files, trial versions of Dreamweaver MX, Fireworks MX and Coldfusion Server MX, as well as extensions, plug-ins and a list of web links where you can get help and other information.

Ever wished you could change one thing that is in every page of your web? Project 2 and 3 will help you work in a template and explain what it does to help you design better. Or how about a search engine on your site so your customers can find that certain item they are looking for without having to look through all the pages of the site? Project 8 will teach you how to do it. Then there are layers and database-drive username and password to learn in Project 12 and 13.

Dreamweaver MX Magic will provide you with a solid basic understanding of a few of the special features in this new Dreamweaver/Fireworks program. If these are the programs you design in, be sure to get a copy of this book. It will be well worth the price of the book.

"The Science in science fiction" effectively presents how SF is based in solid fact. It explains, often in detail, how SF ideas and technology are based on real-life scientific advances and cutting-edge research. Excellent colour illustrations and detailed examples from SF novels round out the no-nonsense links the author traces between fact and fiction, leaving readers with the impression that what many pass off as "fantasies" may one day be accepted facts. Writers, in particular, beginning writers of SF would find this book particularly useful in avoiding the impossibilities one all-too-often finds in new or lower-quality SF. Readers, too, will appreciate the simplicity of the layout and the directness of the subject treatment, and the non-technical layout makes it easier for the layman to understand. All in all, a very good book, although I was let down by the lack of speculation on possible future advances.

The book is great, with great pictures and lots of detail, using both fiction and science to explore what can and can not be. In the end the book shows that there is only THREE things that are not possible and will never happen. The rest is limited only by our imagination.

The authors of this book are determined to play to the weaknesses of Fireworks, as if trying to prove it's a better image editor than the big gun, Photoshop. In doing so, they completely ignore the strengths and value of the programme as a comping and layout tool for web design. Whole chapters are devoted to...Fireworks' text abilities, while very little is made of it's superior vector capabilities. Also to it's detriment, the book is structured in response to newsgroup postings and so plays to the intelligence of your average usenet poster, seeking technical support. If you're looking for "recipes" for bog standard, dated looking web graphics and effects, this is the book for you. However, if you're looking to discover and utilise the power of Fireworks, I highly recommend Fireworks 4 Expert Edge, a far more valuable use of money and time. For some reason, PWF has been positioned as some kind of companion to Al Sparber's DW4 Magic--don't be taken in, as it's not project-oriented, reveals little beyond it's own narrow objectives and is riddled with inaccuracies and poorly written instruction. Coupled with a useless CD to boot.

I learned a lot of cool tricks from the Playing With Fire web site, so I could hardly wait for the book to be published. The book is filled with a lot of great tips and tricks (many from the web site) for Fireworks users, both novice and pros. This is NOT a how-to-use Fireworks book, you already need to know the basics, but its tutorials are clear and easy to follow. I only wish that the book expanded a lot more over the original web site. Even so, I strongly recommend Playing With Fire.

"Playing With Fire" is one of those books that readers are going to love or are going to hate. You will love this book if you already have been introduced to Fireworks in the past and are in search for some new ideas for graphical design. You will hate this book if you are trying to learn the fundamentals of how to use Fireworks 4. If you are a beginner you should work through the Fireworks tutorial that came with the software and possibly another beginner level book such as "Dreamweaver 4 Fireworks 4 Studio: A Beginner's Guide". If you already have used Fireworks and are intermediate or advanced then this book should be in your library. When I first read through the book I felt as though it needed more volume to justify the price, after all most books on Fireworks are 500 pages or more. Then I realized as I experimented with some of the projects that this book is about creativity and originality. The thing that sets most web design apart from the crowd is graphics that catch the eye of your audience and make them want to read further. This book has several design elements that most Fireworks users will find as valuable inspiration that they may apply to their web pages. "Playing With Fire" does not teach you how to use Fireworks, it teaches you how to take the next step with Fireworks and create professional designs.
