This is not the usual book written by a consultant
Usually the book written by consultants keep some of the most important aspect of the technique on which they are writing or do not give all the infomation so that you have to call them to do the job. This is not the case with this book. Mr. Lee just put everything he knows about facilities design in this book in a way that can be easily followed by any one interested in doing facilities and workplace design. Areas for improvement in the book are related to the quality of some of the charts that I found a little difficult to read because of the small font size used. Nevertheless, this is a fault of the publisher and not of the author. If you are looking for a "how to do it" in a simple and straightforward way, without any unnecessary material, you this is the book.

You shall know him by his words... a wonderful compilation
This short compilation of Nelson Mandela's words provides wonderful insights into the man, the politician, the philosopher - from his youth to today. They show him as a a warm and simple human being, a tough and principled leader, as an elder among his people and as a man of wisdom. He has much to teach us. The book doubles as a quick read and a reference, as the quotes are sorted by topic.

mneumonics:a novel approach
Although I'm aware of the criticisms of this approach (that you should learn a language through material already acquired in that language) how do you start out if you don't have little or no stuff to start with?

I haven;t referred to the Spanish Memory Book for a few months, yet I clearly remember most of the jingles, the words, and the meanings as well. In addition, I find myself making up my own jingles for Spanish and for other languages.

William Blake voyages throug time
Seer, mystic, prophet, artist, genius-he was visionary poet William Blake. And Kate, a grocer's daughter, adored him. She loved Blake enough to become his wife. She loved Blake enough to follow him into poverty, into madness, into hell . . .

And then into Time.

Because all of William Blake's angels and monsters, from dread Urizen to the immortal Zoas, were real. Beings of unimaginable power, power that they offered to Britain's finest minds . . . and as a joke, to poor dowdy Kate.

But when the power grows evil, when horror engulfs the world and deadly terrors clasp the man she loves, then poor dowdy Mrs. Blake challenges the gods to rage through time-a tyger burning bright, in the forests of the night!

A thrilling science fiction novel from the author of The Ecolog and Then Beggars Could Ride.

Easily understood historical background for Bible study.
This book gives a good historical perspective for studying the Old Testament Israelite kingdoms. It includes descriptions of other nations/cultures of the time period and provides insight into daily life. It's excellent as a companion for studying history as well as the Bible. Although the recommended age for independent reading is 9 and above, younger children can gain much knowledge by having the information read to them by a parent/teacher. We have used this resource in our home school and return to it again and again.

Good for nobody...unless you're a lawyer or an economist
I read this as a requirement for one of my graduate courses in Sociology and to be perfectly honest, a classroom full of well-educated people, open and willing to take in Nelson and Bridges' ideas could not make heads or tails of it, and that includes our professor! It is certainly bogged down with legal jargon which makes a lot of it very difficult and not very interesting to read. The conclusions were muddled and unclear which makes the reader question what the point was in the first place. Additionally, from a feminist's point of view, I have to draw in to question the motivation of two white males in writing a book about gender inequality in the workplace. Anonymity among social scientists has become an outdated relic of the positivist period and particularly in this case, prompts the reader to question what the writers have to hide.

what a great book!
This book makes the very important point (based on empirical evidence) that organizational and structural practices can result in pay inequality that becomes attributed to the "market." Further, this becomes "legalized" (or condoned in the american legal system) because the market is reified by judges and thought to be "natural" rather than socially constructed. The authors brilliantly demonstrate how this occurs in 4 organizations. This is why it has won every major award in sociology and law and society.

Must-reading on discrimination and labor economics
Fascinating reading, darkly hilarious in spots and an important challenge to orthodox labor economics and law--both of which assume that people's pay is set in "the market." As the authors point out, employers defending discrimination suits don't even have to prove this--it's just an assumption of the system. But the authors show that employers only encounter that "market" through intermediaries, the consultants and advisers who tell them what people are paid--and those people have their own biases, interests, and agendas. The authors carefully examine the records in some famous discrimination cases and show how unlikely it was that any "market" required that the maintenance men be paid more than the secretaries. Every labor economist and lawyer should read this book.

Tree-hugger only
The teacher who teaches this is an enviromentalist wacko and this book can be used solely for that purpose.

Well-researched and thoughtfully presented
The authors obviously put a lot of work into making science accessible and interesting! The information in the book is up-to-date, and the approach is balanced. Great text!

A clearly defined study of environmental science
This text is a clearly defined study of environmental science. It is full of content and each chapter offers extensional learning through the use open-ended presentations of current events applicable to the content. There are loads of interesting topics and there are also references to Online sources for additional information. This is an excellent book for the study of environmental science.

Poorly Edited
As an instructor, I can say that I spent many long hours in class debugging exercises that should have worked the first time. For instance, nobody tells you that you must not install the Website server in the default installation folder "c:\Program Files\Website" since the " " space in the Program Files path to the server will stop the cgi-win examples (p. 131 et al) in the book from functioning at all, or that in the downloaded student files, the \website\lib\root.mdb file is missing altogther which makes the expression evaluator examples (e.g. 4 + 6 = 10 p. 291) not function at all either. While we eventually got the most of the examples to work it took hours and hours of unnecessary debugging work.

I was particularly irritated when on p. 119 the authors promised to present in a later chapter an on-line shopping cart solution which the book never delivered. I must admit that the version of the book I have, came with no CD-ROM even though one was mentioned on p.512. This was apparently an editing oversight because I was directed elsewhere in the text to the books companion web site where I could download all the student files and software. Perhaps the editors did a poor job of checking all the changes they made to the book or the authors were rushed to meet deadlines and were unable to thoroughly check the final draft or finish all they had planned, before the final printing.

On the positive side, the book introduces the reader to a wide range of technologies (client-side, server-side, XHTML, CSS, CGI-WIN, VBScript, ASP, JSP, Javascript, etc.) and I must say I liked the fact the book offered many practical demonstration exercises as well as two on-going case studies. The student can always go and buy a whole book on any one technology if they really want to master any one particular technology. This makes the book good for an overview course. Hopefully they will get the editing and other bugs worked out for the second edition.

Solid tools for Electronic Commerce
This book is just what I have been looking for. I have spent a fortune on books that try to do too much or too little. Here, the authors assume I have some programming and database skills (which I do) and I can move on from there to learn ASP, JSP, ActiveX, CGI, and many more tools to build electronic commerce Web sites. The tutorials were good and I liked the exercises that I could use to work on the skills. The cases were interesting. If you want a book that has the reasons why we build electronic commerce and then provides the skills to actually build the sites, then this is a good one to choose. Best of all, it comes with a Web site where you can access a lot of great software to help you in your task: XML editor, XHTML editor, CSS editor, Website Web server, and the list goes on. I give this book two thumbs up - more if I had more!

Poor Installation Guide
I was really disappointed with this book. Every step of the way I had to refer to some other book or to the internet for resources. I found it to be very unclear as well as not very thorough...

Not a Bad Reference
I thought this book walked through some of the more obscure configuration issues of RH 6.1 pretty well. I liked the fact they actually had screenshots of the installation and I really liked the chapter on compiling the kernel.
