A literary and archaeological exploration of Corinth
Now in its third revised, updated, and expanded edition, St. Paul's Corinth: Texas And Archaeology by Jerome Murphy-O'Connor (Professor of New Testament at the Ecole Biblique) is a literary and archaeological exploration of Corinth, and presents the literary works of twenty-one Greek and Latin authors in chronological order from the first century B.C.E., to the second century C.E. Exhaustively researched with especial insight into the meticulous translations of the works it presents, St. Paul's Corinth is a fascinating, informative, scholarly, "reader friendly", and very highly recommended study.

A fine, eclectic collection of urban fiction
A varied yet cohesive set of short stories that capture the heart of St. Paul, MN. A small yet very urban city. Check out "Chicken" - a quirky, endearing tale.

Business-To-Business E-Commerce Winner
We are an IT company engaged in the development of electronic commerce/distributed database software that is designed to support both government and commercial supply-chain management business- to-business operations. In this brave new world of network infrastructures, firewalls, security requirements, etc., the need to stay current with technology change is critical. The Electronic Commerce, Third Edition provides a source of knowledge that helps fulfill this need. The authors have produced a book that is easy to read and understand, and yet, provides just the right amount of technical detail to do justice to the subject at hand. The following chapters provide the right level of information to help IT managers and software engineers make sound strategic and tactical decisions regarding business-to-business implementation decisions; (2) Security Technologies, (4) Protocols for the Public Transport of Private Information, (9) Strategies, Techniques, and Tools, and (10) E-Commerce Environments and Future Directions.

E-Commerce? - Better read this book or be left behind
A detailed and complete reference on e-commerce. This book covers the whole gamit of electronic commerce. Going from concepts through complete set-up and on to implementation and beyond. Excellent coverage on payment systems and everyone's #1 priority - security. A complete and detailed table of contents and appendix make quick searches a breeze. Complimenting the book itself is an enclosed CD which, along with many resources and helpful links, is chock full of technical setup procedures and protocol. A very complete book on e-commerce. Read it or be left behind!

Essential reading: e-commerce or non-commercial
If, at my last job, we had had access to this book with its compilation of the many technologies that are critical to e-commerce, we would have been spared months of research, technical errors and frustrations, and costly delays in implementing our dotcom. Fortunately, I can now use this information in my current project. Having up-to-date reference material combined in one book is not only a major time-saver; it is also far more readable and understandable than most technical information I had already collected and tried to assimilate on my own into a cohesive and fail-safe plan.

Even for someone who is building a non-commercial site (without requirements for SSL, firewalls, encryption, and the complex security needed for electronic payments), I thoroughly recommend reading Chapter 10 at the very least, with all of its valuable pointers and concrete examples of both good and bad. If more sites complied with these, I would find navigating the web a far more pleasant experience than it has come to be over the past few years.

Short and Sweet
If you are looking for a concise, quick introduction to the history of anthropological theory, then I highly recommend this book. No other short survey of its history comes close to scope and content of Erickson and Murphy's book. The companion book of readings is also very good. I only give it 4 stars because of its brevity, you can't go too deep when you have to cover so much ground and keep the book a reasonable length.

An excellent introduction to the history of Anthropology
I found this to be a highly readable introductory text, which outlines all the major developments in anthropology, from antiquity to postmodernism. The work is, in my opinion, suitable for anyone interested in the broad study of human origins, and of the societies and cultures humans create. I would DEFINITELY buy this book if I were taking an introductory course. A real undiscovered gem for most readers!

disappointing and unhelpful...
...i lugged this around and liked, at first, looking at the pics -- however this book is not comprehensive in the least to the even slightly curious and adventuresome traveler. this is a tourist guide, not a travelling guide. fyi!

very good guidance - like Rick Steves
Although I find the large Insight Guides to be useless, the pocket guides have worked VERY well for me in Morocco and in Costa Rica. By being condensed, they choose very interesting itinaries for you.

Comprehensive and thorough with great photos
Vacation photos are the ubiquitous, clichéd chronicle of the average person's travels. Yet few travel books include more than a small smattering of so-so photos, offering only a peek at a destination's sights and environs; even though a great deal of our travel memories and experiences are through images. This book, along with the Insight Guides series in general, is different, offering a comprehensive set of fantastic photos that not only showcase the sights, but bring the details, richness, and life (some gorgeous, some gritty) of Costa Rica closer.

The accompanying text, while a bit uncharacteristic (likely due to editorial consistency), is informative and comprehensive, giving you a great overview of Costa Rica, its history, its people, and places of interest. Its travel information, such as lodgings, appears targeted towards middle-class travelers, although it touches on a wide range of styles and budgets. And when you're ready to plan your itinerary the maps outshine those of any other guide book, and are good enough to use on your trip, even for 90% of the driving most folks are likely to do.

Other guidebooks might offer more in-depth and "insider" information with a particular slant (e.g. the excellent, down-to-earth, and environmentally conscious book by Harry S. Pariser, "Explore Costa Rica") but the Insight Guide should be the first one you buy to "see" where your travels might take you.

Malta in Miniature
Probably the best available guide book about Malta, written by natives of the island and others with close connections. as usual with the Insight Guides, it succeeds in giving an authentic flavour of the place in miniature, and I have found it very useful throughout several trips there. Photography is very atmospheric, and almost faultless, though my only gripe is that the latest edition has replaced the Passionist 'cover boy' and his lantern - so typical of religious processions on the Island -with an ordinary, though very attractive, Maltese lass. The boy seemed to sum up perfectly the mixture of youth and devout Catholic faith of Malta. This apart, you will not need another guide to the Island if you have this one.

Better than your average Insight guide
I'm generally anti-Insight Guides because of the typically shallow, boring way in which they try to tackle large countries. But Insight does a pretty good job with its regional and small-country series. I can imagine better ways to learn about Malta, but this is a nice, functional book if you don't know much about the place.

Since Malta is so small, the authors can go into a reasonably good deal of detail on the history of the islands, their people, and their sights. There's even enough space for a couple of short sections on Maltese architecture, superstition and lore, and classic Maltese automobiles. While this isn't the kind of guidebook you would actually sit down and read for pleasure, it's full of interesting anecdotes on the culture and history of the place.

I'm afraid many of its hotel and dining recommendations are rather elitist, but why not splurge for once?

Really Detailed Travel Info
This book makes me want to travel to the Canary Islands after cancelling one trip for lack of interest, and even venture off Tenerife to try a couple of the other islands. This is a winner. From Accomodations to Youth Hostels (there aren't any at present) and point by point, this is the book to buy. Each island is detailed for you to decide if it's worth a separate trip. Where to go - what to do - eating out - travel tips - and Berlitz"s language aids.

Not a guide as much as a cute little book
This is a good book if you dream of going to Provence or if you've been and you're looking for something to remind you of the trip. However, if you're looking for a guide book that'll actually get you through Provence, this one lacks the depth you'll need... you'd be better off getting one of the bigger Let's Go or Fodor's guides.

Cyprus, paradise on earth
I am from Cyprus, and I found this book very intresting. The author does a good job talking about the culture of the island and gives the basics for anyone that wants to pay a visit to this beautiful island. It is not in great detail but for a pocket book and for its prize has a great deal of information.
