Unique Lessons
Helen Keller once wrote, "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved." These words perhaps portray the making of the future Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret of Great Britain from their celebrated birth to their early adult lives. Anne Edwards, an experienced biographer who has written books such as "Queen Mary and the House of Windsor", "Ever After: Diana and the Life She Led", and "Sonya: The Life of Countess Tolstoy", among many others, is no stranger to the British Royal Family. Her thorough research on the subject, extensive notes, and detailed descriptions highly contributed to the understanding of a reader who started out not knowing much about the hierarchy of the British Crown. A book about the adolescent and early adult lives of the two princesses, I found it to be at times, like chicken soup for the reader's soul. It teaches the lesson of not being bitter and jealous through unfavorable and painful experiences and to love from the bottom of your heart by giving all you have. The royal sisters Elizabeth and Margaret have gone through so many unfair and trying circumstances together, and have truly succeeded in carrying out the message that "the great use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it" (William James)--just look at all their contributions to the world!

Simon and the Witch
The book I read is called Simon and the Witch. There are six chapters. They are called, Chapter one, The Backwards Spell. Chapter two, The lost magic wand. Chapter three, The Witch at the seaside. Chapter four, Witch has measles, Chapter five, Halloween, Chapter six, The Witch's visitor. I like chapter Three the best. The book is about a boy called Simon, and the Witch. I read it in one day. I like that book because it was great. I liked it because it was exciting.
Simon and the Witch
The story is about a boy called Simon whose friend is a witch. I enjoy this story very much. The best part is when the witch makes the whole beach full of sand pies. It was cool when the witch had a trolley race in the hospital. Anyway the witch is silly. Simon enjoys being with the witch. In one chapter the witch loses her wand and finds it again. The witch teaches Simon a spell to turn the gardener into a frog. Simon felt horrible when he knew there is no back wards spell but the witch tricked him.

Excellent book for those who plan to have a cat!
This book gives an excellent overview about cat behaviour and care. It is very direct and not complicated. However I did not give 5 stars because I wish they would have detailed more about feline diseases such as FIV and leukemia. For those who already have cats (like me) the book makes clear certain attitudes that we all know such as lots of sleeping, hissing, feline intelligence, the way they show their love and so on.
On the other side, if you plan to get a cat/kitten from your shelter or any other place have this book first, it has an excellent section on how to choose the right cat. And also a good section why you should not declaw your cat and all the care you will have with your feline companion.
Cat Knowledge for every Cat Owner
After owning my first cat, I decided to read about cats. I found "Wild Discovery Guide to your Cat" very helpful in understanding more about my cat. I discovered why my cat behaves the way he behaves and how to treat him if he becomes sick. This book made me understand my cat a lot better and to be able to make a better home for him. The book ranged from topics on the different types of cats to how to help a cat adjust to a new home. I especially enjoyed the sections on what to do when a cat is sick or injured, particularly what signs to look for in a sick cat. Of course, the pictures of the various cats were great and helpful in understanding various situations with cats. Overall, I was very impressed with the book. I plan on purchasing the book for friends who are cat lovers.

memories for me
My mother owned a first edition of this sweet book and as a child I was enchanted. The pictures in the book let you see the now queen and princess as little girls, playing and horse riding and being royal. I treasured the book and named my oldest daughter Elizabeth because of the glitter I saw with the little girls. My mother gave the book to me when I was a teenager and I had kept it for 40 years. I loaned the book to a friend and it was lost. I am now 55 and only lost it 5 years ago. I am very anxious to own another one. I think all ages of girls would love to read this book of another life that few of us can ever know.
A Wonderful Book!
If you love the Royal family then you'll be amazed by this book. I loved reading about the queen and her sister, Margret's, childhood. Its a wonderful book with funny parts as well as sometimes when you feel sorry for the girls. It tells of the future queen saying if she was Queen she wouldn't let people work horses on sundays, because they deserve a day off too, or something close to that.

Inspiring and Encouraging
This little book is easy reading, but is packed with beautiful examples of how we can give and receive these special acts of kindness. This book was given to me as a Random Act of Kindness by two wonderful people, Perry A~ and David, whom I have never met in person. These short stories cover all walks of life, including stories about those imprisoned. The only thing that I would have preferred about the book was to know who wrote each story. I plan to reference and recommend this book to my participants in my "Success Skills Seminars" that I present to corporate clients, as well as to inmates...to help lower recidivism, and reduce the number of victims of crime. Imagine how much more wonderful this world would be if we all practiced more Random Acts of Kindness.

A Woman's Othello
The particular importance of this book lies in the fact that it is the first edition to include the Tragedy of Mariam into its biographical context, by publishing the text with Elizabeth's Cary's biography written by one of her daughter. The editors include a very thorough introduction in which they strongly claim the richness and greatness of the text, not only because it is the first play ever written by an English woman, but also because of its investigation of paramount issues such as gender, politics, and race. In addition to this, the editors include an appendix where they give the readers a chance to know about the original source that Cary might have used in her play.

A Very Good Book
I liked this book very much, although I really think they could have gotten more detailed. I would recommend this book to anyone doing a research project on women inventors. If you read it, you will definately have a better day, and get an 'a' on your project!

From Someone practicing NFP
I have been using NFP for a year now and am always looking for information to make me more educated on the subject. I sought this book to round out my education. For my purposes, it does serve me but this is not a book to be used for beginners, wanting to learn how to do Natural Family Planning/Natural Birth Control. This book is definitely towards birth control--as the title states--so I would not recommend it for those trying to learn how to achieve pregancy necessarily. I also would not recommend this book for those going off of the pill--it gives only a paragraph of information about that. This book is very good at giving biology and can be helpful in giving slightly different wording for helping someone to learn the signs of fertility. The author basically uses the Thermal Method of NFP and uses the other portions of NFP--cervix, mucus-- as secondary signs. If for some reason you can't do your temperature or want to use the sympto method, this is not the book for you.
Works both ways
This is the first book that I read on NFP and it served to be the most informative and useful. Before reading the book I had only heard of the famous rhythm method. This book opened a door to many different signs that a women can use to tell when she is fertile. I have used these signs (along with prayer) to GET pregnant (so I don't understand the other reveiwer).
I would happily recommend this book to anyone wanting to conceive as well as those that want a safe way to prevent conception.
Signs of Fertitlity - Second Edition
A MUST FOR ALL WHO ARE INTERESTED IN OR WHO ARE PRESENTLY PRACTICING NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING! A tremendous amount of research went into this little book. Although it is directed toward those interested in birth control, there's too much information here for those seeking to achieve pregnancy to ignore. It explains more than one method of Natural Family Planning and suggests using them together for a higher success rate in birth control or in achieving pregnancy. The beginning of this book is hard because of the scientific wording. It teaches you exactly what is happening with your body. If you can make it through the difficult but short first chapters, the center of the book is an absolute GOLD MINE! I highly recommend it to all women whether you are looking to achieve pregnancy, practice birth control, or are premonopausal. However, if you are just beginning to learn Natural Family Planning, this book will not stand alone. I strongly urge you to buy more than one book, no matter what book you buy. It is too important. Add this one to your list and you won't be sorry.

appalling
of all the sorry excuses i've seen for dumping one's kids in day care, this is the saddest thing of all. eighteen nannies! do you know the emotional havoc for this boy? this is so contrary to the needs of a human infant. for shame
How to Find the Perfect Nanny
I too read the book. I found it both humorous and educational. I don't remember anything in it about a poor, traumatized child.
Funny and endearing
I think the other reviewer on this book didn't even read it. I did. She did not have 18 nannies, she interviewed that many, looking for the right one for her kid. This is a funny, endearing, entertaining book and it's a shame that it's gone out of print.
St. Margaret's Cave: Or, the Nun's Story: An Ancient Legend (Gothic Novels, III)
Published in Hardcover by Ayer Co Pub (1977)
Amazon base price: $70.00
Average review score:
A fun, typical Gothic novel of 1790-1820.
The Arno reprints recreate the feeling of holding the original text in your hands, as they come in seperate volumes using the original font. If you are not used to reading early fonts, this may slow your reading a bit. This novel features the usual inset tales, castles, caves, and hermits. The heroic figures are vegitarians, something Helme felt strongly about. The child abuse in some of the early chapters is rather unusual for the period.
