Haunting and gripping - A must read for all
I will never look at a snowcapped mountain the same way again! This is David Morrell's finest page-turning book ever. Definitely prepare to ignore the rest of the world from the gripping first chapter until the final word. David Morrell is superb at making you feel you are in the hearts of his characters and the story. You can literally feel and taste the falling snowflakes on your face and your muscles will ache in this, I think, his best and most thrilling novel to date. You will shiver again and again from cold fear while you are caught up in the extremely suspenseful story. The cold and snow will definitey haunt me forever.

Thought provoking
This book is extremely fast paced and somewhat disturbing. It is one of those page turners that keeps you up all night reading and tired at work the next day. The introduction by Morrell makes you wonder about the stories ending. It's ending is unexpected and if you go back and read the last 2 or 3 paragraphs of the introduction, you have something that keeps you thinking about the book for 2 or 3 days. I highly recommend this book and any other book written by Morrell

Unforgettable!
This is the first time I have ever reviewed anything on the internet, I gues I never felt the passion that I feel about this book. There seems to be alot of mixed review of this book which surprises me. I remember the first time I ever read this book, I was interrupted by an exam I had to take and had to set down the book for several months. After finally getting back to the book months later, I picked up where I left off, to my surprize I remembered every last detail. It is just one of those books that creaps up on you and won't let you be. It has been a good 7 years since I read it and I have to say it is still the best novel I have read to date. I am a big fan of David Morrell, but this novel is the leader of the pack. To start off it has by far the most shocking oppenner I have ever read in any book and the ending leaves you thinking. Out of all the books I've read this one stands out the most, definately Unforgettable. I still to this date remember the book, and every scene vividly.

taut suspense thriller
As the older sibling thirteen-year-old Brad Denning knew he was responsible for his kid brother nine-year-old tag along Petey. However, his friends encouraged Brad to send Petey home. So Brad told Petey to leave. The sobbing preadolescent biked away. However, when Brad returned home for supper he learns that Petey did not come home. Frantically their parents called friends and the police, but the skinny little kid never came home.

Nearing forty, Brad is married, has a son, and has a successful architect career, but remains guilt stricken by the sobbing of a LONG LOST nine year old. Desperate for closure he appeals on TV for Petey to come home. In Denver, a mangy looking construction worker calls Brad by name insisting he is Petey. Though initially skeptical, Brad begins to believe him because this guy knows insider things about Brad and their parents. Brad takes Petey home, where his wife and son warmly welcome him.

While camping, Petey shoves Brad off the edge of a cliff before abducting his sister-in-law and nephew. Brad survives and begins an odyssey to rescue his family from the avenging serpent.

LONG LOST is a taut suspense thriller that hooks readers from the very first line until the one sitting tale is finished. Though Petey's revenge seems extreme, especially the events he committed after he left his brother for dead, the suspenseful plot thoroughly retains its grip on the reader. David Morrell has furnished a powerful haunting thriller with a frightening ending that just adds to the depth of a hard to forget novel

A family is torn apart by terrors from the past.
David Morrell's new novel, "Long Lost," is about Brad and Karen Denning, a happily married couple who live with their eleven-year-old son, Jason, in Denver, Colorado. Brad is a prosperous and well-known architect. He has received favorable magazine and television coverage praising the innovative structures that he has built.

Brad has one major regret in life. When he was a thirteen-year-old youngster in Ohio, he once told his nine-year-old brother, Petey to go home by himself, since Brad's friends didn't want a little kid tagging along with them. Tragically, Petey got on his bike, pedaled away, and disappeared off the face of the earth. Petey's disappearance devastated the Denning family and Brad has never gotten over his grief and his guilt over the loss of his brother.

One day, a man shows up out of the blue and calls out Brad's name while Brad is walking along the street in downtown Denver. The man states that he had seen a television spot featuring Brad, and he insists that he is Petey, Brad's long-lost brother. "Petey" claims to be elated to have the opportunity to reconnect at last with his family and he seems anxious to make up for all the lost years when the brothers were separated. After an initial period of understandable skepticism, Brad buys the man's story, particularly because "Petey" knows facts about the boys' childhood that no one else could have told him.

Brad soon finds that he has inadvertently plunged himself and his family into a morass of terror and despair by allowing this man into his home. Is this man really Brad's long-lost brother, or is he an impostor? What soon becomes clear is that "Petey's" agenda is not about reconciliation. Brad is soon put into a position of having to single-handedly save his family and himself from disaster.

Morrell's writing in "Long Lost" is simple and understated. The chapters are brief and he uses the first person, which makes the action more personal and immediate. The novel is fast-paced and exciting and the reader is kept on the edge of his seat wondering how the plot will resolve itself. The only downside is that occasional melodramatic touches seep into the narrative, and there are a few cliches which detract from the flow of the story. However, for the most part "Long Lost" is a good summer read. Put your feet up and prepare to lose yourself in a story about a desperate person who will do anything to reclaim his life from a very dangerous man.

David Morell is a master!
I've read every book David Morrell has written and Long Lost is his best in years. The last few books he's written have been good books, but the heroes are almost superhuman. Yes, Morrell did create Rambo, but David Morrell's Rambo was a real, flawed person, not the perfect hero Stallone turned him into. With 'Long Lost' Morrell returns to the kind of human story he told in 'First Blood'. It's a fairly simple story of a boy, Petey Denning, who disappears when he is nine years old, devastating his parents and older brother. Years later his parents are dead and his brother Brad is married and successful. Petey returns to Brad's life and kidnaps his family. The story takes off from there as Brad chases his family across the country trying to save them from his brother. The characters are very real, and the situations all make sense.
Although, the way Brad tracks his brother is a little hard to believe. The ending rings very true to life. It's not exactly a happy ending. This book is one incredible book!

The most exciting book I have read in a long time!
This classic novel from David Morrell is defenitily one of the best and most scary books I have read in a long time.
This edition is the "complete and unaltered" edition from finepress Donald Grant. According to the authors foreword a whole lot has been changed in this edition compared to the regular edition that was first published, but since i have not read the true 1st edition I can not tell how big the difference is. but anyway this book kicks b...!
The book is beautifully printed and typeset and with some ok illustrations by T. Canty. The trade hardcover only features these in black and white, but the deluxe edition has them in color, but also cost a whopping [$]. Unfortunately it doesnt seem that Amazon features the trade hardcover priced at [$], but try contacting them to see if they can get it for you, or get it directly from the publisher...Hihgly recommended!!!

Definetly worth reading
I am one of Morrell's biggest fans. He is the only author I choose to read. This was the first horror book I have read. Much of the book is exciting, intriguing and hard to put down. But on the other hand, in the end I was left to assume the outcome of some things. For example, all of those hippies that he mentioned, I guess turned into the horrid rabbied beast creatures. Morrell never really says "all of those hippies have been diseased, and that is why there are so many of the diseased beasts." or anything like that. Also the reader never finds out if the hippies actually are living in the woods. But besides that the book is definetly worth reading! Many times I would read it just before I went to sleep and left fearful to turn off the lights! So in my opinion I reccommend reading this book and find out if you agree with my thoughts! Have fun.

A gripping, savage, intelligent action/horror book.
Anyone who has read any of David Morrell's novels will certainly appreciate this one. The tale evolves as an intelligent, thriller and action story with a little pinch of horror thrown in. His imagery is some of the best in this genre. The only author, in my opinion, who even comes close is Trevanian. Picture an isolated valley that comes alive at night with bizarre happenings, that culminate in an amazing hunt for creatures with human like intelligence--you will not want to put it down! I read the book a long time ago, and to this day still have vivid recollections. Enjoy

Don't waste your time.
The author of this book needs remedial education concerning the basics of writing; there is no evidence the author has any writing skills at all.

WORST OF MORELL
I LIKE WAR STORIES BUT THIS IS JUST A RAMBLING OF NAMES AND EVENTS. ESSENTIALLY AN OLD VETERAN OF SEVERAL WARS GIVES A HARD TIME TO A YOUNG MAN BARELY OUT OF HIS TEENS WHO SEEMS TO SEE THE VET AS A HERO. THE LAD IS ANXIOUS TO SEE ACTION IN THE WAR IN MEXICO BUT THE VET JUST SEEMS TO NOT CARE WHETHER THE KID STAYS WITH HIM OR NOT. THIS BOOK SEEMS TO BE A STORY MORRELL SAW IN HIS DREAMS, NODDING OFF IN FRONT OF HIS TV WHILE WATCHING AN OLD WESTERN FROM THE EARLY 1930s. IF YOU LIKE MORRELL'S MYSTERY THRILLERS, SKIP THIS ONE!

A powerful story of men at war
David Morrell has never faild to amaze me. This book is no exception. Based on the true turn-of-the century conflicts with Panco Villa, Last Reveillie tells the story of the American soldiers who were sent into Mexico to clash with Villa and his troops. I'll admit, I wasn't sure if I'd like this book, so I put it off for a long time. I wish I hadn't. Last Reveillie is a powerful story of men at war. Morrell blends his exceptional knowledge of history with a crystal clear prose to create a true American classic. The charracters are rich. The action is first rate. It left me begging for more. Those not interested in military history or stories of warfare should probably stay away. Those looking for an astonishing tale of loyalty, honor, and sacifice in the harshest of places can do no better.
