The Precision Farming Guide for Agriculturists

Great basic intro, but lack modern and technical info
This book provides an excellent background for new precision farming students/users. It is centered around building knowledge about how precision farming works, and how it can be applied. THIS BOOK IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THOSE THAT ALREADY HAVE A THOROUGH BACKGROUND IN PRECISION FARMING. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU SEEK A MORE ADVANCED, TECHNICAL REFERENCE.

A good overview of the engineering behind precision farming
For anyone with an interest in precision farming but has only gained knowledge through magazine articles or talks on the subject, understanding this text can give a good foundation and insight for future learning on the subject. From the text, one can learn about the satellite system used in global positioning, remote sensing techniques, monitors aboard combines, sprayers and planters and computer communications in a modern farm production system. Finest attention to detail and sound decisions for maximum profitability is what precision farming is ultimately about. With an understanding and ability to apply the knowledge, opportunity awaits. This book is a starting point. I also believe that this book would work well as a supplemental text for a college or vocational agriculture course geared toward the subject.

Fiction by Dan Morgan
Dan Morgan also wrote some quite fine fiction novels. The ones I'm aware of are: 1.The new Minds 2.The several minds 3.Mind trap 4.Inside and 5.The country of the mind

I must say that I have only read 2 of these as I'm finding it hard to locate them but of those read I enjoyed greatly . They were quirky, at times challenging and while in some places slighly dated the writting is of a quality to keep you engrossed and waiting to see what is around the next corner. I would suggest 4 stars if u can find them.

this book does fill a need
For the most part, this book covers the academic research on semistructured database management that started in the mid-90s (pre-dating the XML explosion - sometimes research is ahead of practice!). Such issues are not that interesting for folks who are doing bread-and-butter client-side XML development, and whose interest in "XML" and "databases" is limited to knowing how Oracle 8i implements its "XML out the top" package. However, the book is relevant to people who are already "in" the semistructured data management space - people who are thinking ahead to some of the potential directions that XML query languages might take, for example. The authors are prominent and well-respected in this area.

One of my main beefs with the book is that it does not really say anything about what XML databases might look like in practice. This is a tall and perhaps unfair order, since we don't yet have standards for XML schemas and query languages. But I have yet to see XML database proponents provide a clear and convincing explanation of why XML is going to be a way to structure stored data as well as a way of transmitting and reformatting data.

a wonderful conection of the three concepts
The book provides a wonderful link of the three concepts: Relation, Semistructured , and XML. The discussion is clear and concise. We know that Relation is well used in modelling enterprise data today, since the high performance of RDBMS . On the other hand, XML is well accepted the most suitable for business information representation. The author uniformed them under the banner of semistructured data model. The text drives the readers into the insight of the data world even though it is in the abstract level. Anyone can be benifitted by reading it if he want to go deep in the XML and data world.

Required reading
Read this book and understand it unless you want to flounder around solving problems that these guys already thought through. The book is not a "how-to" guide, but rather a discussion of all the abstract concepts you need to master if you want to do things right. I found this book far more readable than some of the research these guys have published, and a very useful starting point for evaluating various products and technologies related to XML and web data.

Pity to close hatoum'work on a book
The big art work of Mona Hatoum really don't are able to be close between to cover. Like her performance, her installation and sculpture are ugly and mute in a static and not-so-well-printed photografy book. Good is the intro, and the index of exibitions

Smart and good-looking
This is a good introduction to the art of Mona Hatoum. The book has several well written texts, an interesting interview, and very good photos. Of course, the kind of work Hatoum makes does not lend itself easily to photography, and inevitably some of the impact is lost (but then again, this could be said for any book on art...). Oh, and it is a very good-looking book.
