Nanny's Special Gift--a true gift!!
Rochelle Potaracke has captured the emotion of a family dealing with Alzheimer's and put it into terms a child can relate to. It will warm and touch the hearts of adults as well as children. This book is a beautiful reflection and expression of love.

Sports Medicine? It's here! Very Good!
This edition goes with excellent design, making of "Oxford Textbook of Sports Medicine" an intellectual and didactic attractive. Moreover, in this second edition the sections are reviewed, having important topics for physicians and all people interesting in sports medicine. The chapters are completes and concise in the same time, a great point for the editors, authors and principally for readers. In the beginning, the book presents a brief review of exercise physiology, following with general topics in sports as nutrition and growing. After, some chapters show for the reader some of the most common injuries in sports, having special considerations the injuries in ankle and knee. The last chapters describe about special populations in sports, as women in pregnancy and elders. I really recommend this book.

A fascinating, informative, and highly recommended account
The sailing ship La Belle was used in the 1600's in the beleaguered Fort St. Louis settlement's attempt to escape. But when the La Belle sank, the ship's occupants found themselves stranded, and then threatened by hostile Indians. Chapters detailing the history of the colony and the ship alternate with the modern account of the finding and recovering of the long-sunken ship and its artifacts. In 1995, the Texas Historical Commission discovered the sunken La Belle, and set to work extracting it and its cargo. The result of their labors and the amazing preserved relics of history fill the pages of this fascinating, informative, and highly recommended account, enhanced with black-and-white artwork.

Unique
The Science and Technology of Terrorism and Counterterrorism examine some topics that you might find in other texts but in a more understandable format and with greater depth. It goes beyond this in that it covers so much more that is unique in a variety of areas such as the theory of terrorism and technology, the group psychology of terrorism, aerosol science, sensors (one of the most complete works on chem., bio and nuclear sensors that I have seen), medical preparedness, training and homeland security infrastructure. It is concise and timely and is written by a distinguished group of scholars with a broad range of expertise to thoroughly cover all of these complex topics.

excellent introduction to serious astronomy for young folk
As a former President of the Houston Astronomical Society, I found the illustrations and clear presentation to be especially useful for young students - I'd say 6th - 8th grade. David Levy--the co-discoverer of the comet that smacked into Jupiter--wrote the introduction.

absorbing and thought-provoking
Paula Mitchell Marks' "And Die in the West" is one of the most enjoyable treatments of history that I have read in some time. Not only is her prose highly readable and informative, it also achieves that goal which every good historian must set out to do--provide an objective analysis in light of the sources available. Mrs. Marks provides a comprehensive look at the forces which helped to define the West, then provides the shootout out behind the OK Corral and its aftermath as the ultimate example of those forces in conflict. While it can be argued that a bit too much time is spent on the legal proceedings following the gunfight, it is a minor flaw in an otherwise first-rate work. Anyone looking for a thorough, detailed description of the events and characters that played a role in the mythos of the West is hereby encouraged to make this book a part of their permanent collection.
The best discussion to date of the famous gunfight.
Check the statement below that you believe to be true.
_____a. Wyatt Earp, the Lion of Tombstone, was one of the greatest lawmen the West has ever known, cleaned up the cowtowns of Kansas single-handed (usually by the mere force of his steely gaze), and in moral character was about one step below Jesus Christ Himself.
_____b. Wyatt Earp was a coldblooded, stagecoach-robbing, back-shooting murderer who deliberately and with malice aforethought killed innocent, unarmed men in at least two states, most notably in the gunfight at the OK Corral in Tombstone, A.T.
_____c. Neither of the above statements is true (including the phrase "at the OK Corral").
The correct answer, of course, is c. If you have absorbed your fill of myths and lies (enjoyable as they may be, and many of them are!) about Wyatt Earp and his contemporaries from books, films, and television, try Paula Mitchell Marks's _And Die in the West_. For my money, Marks's book is the most detailed and objective discussion to date of the events leading up to the gunfight in the vacant lot between Fly's boarding house and the Harwood House, near the rear entrance to the OK Corral (hmm, that's not quite as catchy as "at the OK Corral," is it?); the larger setting in which they took place; the personalities of the individuals involved; the gunfight itself; and its aftermath. Her presentation of general background material about the American West, including the development of the "stand your ground and fight" mentality, the nature of boomtowns (whether cow, mining or railroad), and the business enterprises that flourished in them, lays the groundwork for a description of the two opposing politico-
economic factions in Tombstone. Thus, the stage is set for an in-depth analysis of the approximately 27 seconds of shooting that erupted in that vacant lot between two violence-prone groups of men on October 26, 1881.
My only substantive criticism of this book is that its list of end-noted references (end of the entire book, that is) for quotations (of which there are hundreds) is awkward and annoying for anyone who really wishes to use it to check sources. Footnotes would have been much more convenient, but perhaps also less aesthetically pleasing for some readers and--no doubt--more expensive for the publisher.
On a subject that remains surrounded by controversy after more than a century, Marks's is a voice of reason, demonstrating that Wyatt Earp was neither a saint nor a devil, and reminding us that truth may be more complicated than legend but is certainly no less fascinating.
Good effort to provide a balanced look at history
For those of us brought up on Wyatt Earp as portrayed by Hugh O'Brian, this book is somewhat unsettling. Ms. Marks has done an evenhanded job of presenting both sides of the story. The famous gunfight at the OK Corral came about because of a series of blunders by both parties and she details them all. I enjoyed the book immensely.

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul is a wonderful book.
I have read exerpts from Chicken Soup for the Soul but I haven't finished it. I have, however, being a teenager, read Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. It was the most inspirational book I have ever read. Its uplifing stories have helped me to better understand my life and relationships as a teenage Christian dealing with today's problems. I would highly recommend any book in this wonderful series to anyone and everyone!!!
Very inspirational
I have not yet completed this book, but I am in the process of finishing it now. So far it is very motivational. The chapter on Faith has got some real meaningful messeges. I recommend that anyone who needs some words of wisdom should open this book. It is definately worth the time and worth the money. I am only 20 years old and have read a lot of books, but this one is literally too hard to put down. When I put it down after reading a story I feel like being the best of God's people. God's work is really involved in these stories, and in putting them together so that we can enjoy them and learn about some wonderful workings of God.
A book that everyone should read to become a gobal citizen.
This is a book that can be read siliently or out loud to an audience at anytime. One little action, one little world could mean a lot to others. The stories touch to the deepest of one's heart as the person start realizing the truth of the world and the reason of life. Chicken Soup for the Soul is for honor and love.

book is out of print. If you have ever vacationed in or worked in or
simply visited Italy or if you have dreamed about doing it, you'll
want to, somehow, find this book. Leavitt and Mitchell have collected
famous writers thoughts on Italy (D.H. Lawrence, Nellie Melba, John
Ruskin, Mark Twain, etc.) and then written down their own wonderful
musings: (What makes an Italian ragu?, The thing that Italian boys do
better than any other boys in the world, Is there a cure for chicken
pox?, Speaking "opera" Italian, et al). This is a charming
& fascinating book which ... is definitely not an ordinary Travel
book. This is a book about living in Italy and loving and relishing
every moment and sharing those moments with us. I hope Chronicle
Books is smart and generous enough to reprint it or, perhaps, publish
a paperback edition.
