John D. Mitchell and his Treasure Hunt.
John Mitchell not only writes about treasure but You can tell he has also researched the facts about treasure he rode the hoofs off his trusty mules in the early days of the united states working and hunting for treasure. He had a job that took him in some of the most out of the way places in which some of the treasure was located in and around the old jesuit missions. I know he was there because his discriptions of the area matched later day treasure hunters descriptions to a T. He has 2 books out on treasure hunting, His 1st and later his updated version. He also explains how he got interested in treasure hunting too, which is a very interesting story. His books are real interesting reading even if you do not believe in buried treasure. Thank,s Bill Sharp P.S. I have both of his 2 books.

The New Economy of Oil: Impacts on Business, Geopolitics and Society

Wonderful Treatment of Important Subject
This an excellent study that forms a viewpoint for evaluating the next 20 years of oil and related energy isssues. I'm currently involved in such a study and find the book to be fascinating reading and extremely helpful in framing the possibilities. The focus is on the next twenty years, starting with an evaluation of "conventional wisdom". It then surveys key interest areas: Oil Supply, Transportation, Natural Gas, Prices, Energy Security, and acceptability.

All of the surveys are of high quality - I particularly found myself attracted to the depth of treatment in the natural gas section, and balance in the view taken of acceptability of energy supply. Other topics also treated with great evenness are issues such as oil availability, competing technologies, competition within segments, security, global warming, and social impact. The book ends in an excellent discussion of challenges and choices.

I thank the authors for putting together this very informative and useful review of oil and energy. I also thank Amazon for making this book so available in a timely way.

Fabulous Guide to the Unknown
This book is facisnating, not just because of it's content but also because of the way it is written. Many times guides like these are slanted, but this one is written in a very collected, objectional view that not only makes it super-easy to read, but allows you to draw your own conclusions. You can look up anything from urban legends to recorded unexplained phnomena to the existance of ghosts. It's all presented in an organized manner and in related categories, so if you find one thing that interests you, it's easy to find others. Also has a complete index and accompanying pictures with each entry. Definitly worth buying, if only for reference, but it's an excellent read as well!

Shrinking the State: Globalization and Public

Excellent eye-opener into Canada's ideological war.
This book seems along the lines of Linda McQuaig's series on the crisis in Canadian Welfare state. However, I think it is more difficult to read and get into at first. Once into the book, I found it an excellent explanation about what is happening in Canada's federal and provincial governments: Cuts to social programs, increasing influence of business, the details of our deficit and debt and an description of the effects of globalization. I highly recommend "Shrinking the State" for anyone who wants to open his or her mind to the ideology that is currently directing the massive transformation in the way Canada is governed!

SPADA - Anthology of Swordsmanship
SPADA is a journal that contains some of most current ideas on historical swordsmanship by a number of the field's leading researchers. As a student of historical swordsmanship myself, I think it is an excellent step in the right direction for the progression of this school of study.

As far as the contents of the book are concerned, my hat goes off to the editor, Stephen Hand, for distilling such a diverse, and yet interesting range of papers from the vast array of excellent treatises available.

The book also features some interesting reports on some of the most recent activities undertaken in the WMA community. This provides the reader with a very good 'big picture' perspective into what advances are being made in what fields, and an appreciation for the vast range of people who are now interested in historical swordsmanship.

With regards to it's practicality, the book caters for many different tastes - whether you are interested in the finesse of renaissance fencing, or simply a medieval re-enactor using the trusty 'sword and shield' method. SPADA provides useful insights and a greater understanding of historical methods of fighting.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in gaining a greater appreciation of historical swordsmanship, and anyone who is curious to know what the swordmanship community out there is doing. I rate it as a 'must have' item, and I look forward to more SPADA releases in the future.

cheers

Christ in a Fantasy World
I loved this book, and am enjoying it once again as I read to my girls. There are many wonderful pictures of Christian concepts, and the Christ figure, Gaal, is so very like the resurrection Christ. For instance, Gaal's white robes cannot be dirtied, but burn away any corruption that touches them.

The name, Gaal, means "Shepherd". Like it, many of the names in the book are Greek and Hebrew words. It is an enjoyable excercise as a child to try and guess the meanings, then look them up afterward. One more give-away, "Geburah" is Hebrew for "strength".

While there is an allegorical aspect to the names, this is no "Pilgrim's Progress". The story is creative and exciting, standing on its own even if everything were renamed. The allegorical names simply add another level of meaning to the story.

The main theological theme (don't worry, it is illustrated in the events of story, not preached) is Sin and Grace. Each of the main characters makes bad choices that cause grave harm to themselves and others. But Gaal works everything out so that they have a second chance.
