not quite as advertised
This is the Revised Brief Thirteenth edition, not the full edition. The paperback version comes with a plastic ring binder that is not suitable for heavy use. In short, this is not the version that a professional editor would want, although it might be fine for students.

Very complete!!!
I found this book to be a wonderful reference when writing anything from a short paper to a forty page research paper. Neither would have been possible without this text. A great buy!

A Thorough and Complete Grammar Reference
The only reference you will need for everyday professional and proper usage of the English language. Very well organized and extremely easy to use. I highly recommend this book.

Lifestyles of the Rich and Infamous in Colonial America
The grim and sober notion of a monochromatic Puritan world is quickly put to rest by colonial scholar John C. Miller in his fine volume, The First Frontier: Life in Colonial America. Contrary to the stern stereotypical image of a thousand Thanksgiving pageants and grade school centerpieces, Dr. Miller creates an anecdotal quilt that captures a diverse frontier world that edged the rocky shore of the cold Atlantic. If Dr. Miller's book had been the primer for legions of school children there would have been little dozing in the classroom; America wouldn't have had to wait for Mel Gibson and the Patriot to discuss the finer points of "bundling." Nor would we have questioned Samoset's motivation when it's revealed he boldly marched up to the Pilgrims and asked for beer. The extarordinary range of detail, gleaned from diaries, letters and other primary sources surprises us with anecdotes of crime and punishment, recreation, education, dress, labor and medicine among others. From cockfights, slavery, urban life to mean cabins on the frontier, the first Americans emerge as a diverse species, as unique as the forest they push back from the sea. Consider that, Harvard educated and Stanford professor, Dr. Miller first wrote this thin tome in 1966, makes this undiscovered gem a treasure for any serious student of the American frontier. But, like Washington's Expense Account, it reaches across the coffee table and seizes the mainstream reader's interest. This is a Don't Miss. coleman@gunnison.com

Full, quaint, and digestable
Long a definitive work on the colonial period, this interesting work gives the reader the broad base of knowledge necessary to understand the period.

Basic and Jumpy
I was hoping to get an insight on ASP.NET when I purchased this product, as an experienced developer I would say that this book is too basic for me. This book can be great for a beginners who are just getting into making websites dynamically.

One thing I found somewhat bothering was the fact that it's quite jumpy. In some parts of the book there are portions that say "we will get to this on chapter blah" and what bothered me was that the concept was used in previous examples. An average reader, in my opinion, would want to examine the code and see how it works. The likely chance that he/she will read through the other chapters and look back is less than likely. More than likely they will get confused if they tried to jump through some sections to understand this certain porton. For example, in one of the first 3 chapters they used IF statements in the examples to explain some of the Radio Buttons Functionality. Now someone who doesn't know C# out of the bat will be confused!

Read this book for an overview only...

Great resource. Basic but very Useful.
Excellent resource for all ASP.NET AND C# beginners. as well as a quick reference for C# and some ASP.NET basic configuration. These guys did a great job in putting together a logical sequence of chapters that will help the reader successfully learn to code basic ASP.NET web pages using C#. I especially like the general overview of the C# language and Object Oriented programming.

Know what you are buying, because some readers commented it was "A bit too basic" and that is probably a technically correct statement however relative to your level of expectation.

I used it to first phase into ASP.NET for which it was extremely helpful. Later in the development cycle of my initial application the book lost its use but I keep coming back to it for quick reference.

A must for anyone coming from a classic ASP development environment into ASP.NET, C# and Object Oriented Programming. Worth every penny.

Excellent book for those wishing to use C# with ASP.Net
As a reviewer for Wrox, I was pleased to be given this book to technically review. I found that this C# version of Beginning ASP.Net very informative and highly useful.

Written in a typically good Wrox style, every facet that a beginner would be interested in is covered. However, not just beginners will gain from this book but also "intermediates", especially those not familiar with C# will also gain a lot from this books contents. I especially liked the Web Services chapter as well as the debugging chapter.

I would certainly class this is one of my top Wrox books.

The Apocalyptic Jesus
This book is very well writen. It is done in a well thought out manner and the layout and discussion parts are excellent. It would be good to have a decent handle on recent theology, however. It will breach some answers and conclusions that will need prior knowledge for the reader. Dale Allison does a fantastic job with his argument and ideas. It is a great book for those considering the idea of the Apocalyptic Jesus.

A handy referance for the excimer folks
This book is great for getting a general sense of the physics behind laser ablation. In the first half it treats the reader to a review of laser ablation at several wave lengths (from CO2 to excimer); not only the theory but also some experimental techniques. In the second, the editors present a very nice discussion of various aplications.

Mikhail Gorbachev and the End of Soviet Power
Published in Paperback by Palgrave Macmillan (09 December, 1992)
Author: John Miller
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

One of the definitive works on the end of the Soviet Union
John Millers book provides an excellent overview of the Gorbachev period, unravelling it as a narrative of collapse. Heavily based on primary sources Miller provides an interpretation of the fall of the Soviet Union that examines both its systemic problems and the rise of intellectuals as new social force. The book accords a high degree of importance both to the changes in ideology and the power (and impotence) of the leadership. This book, while providing quite a comprehensive and sophisticated overview of the major events leading to the breakdown of the Soviet empire is nonetheless accessible enough to make highly recommendable undergraduate reading. I would rank this book alongside Remnick's Lenin's Tomb and Richard Sakwa's Gorbachev and his Reforms as a major contribution to the field.

Experimental Economics ... not as cool as it sounds.
I had the fortune of being in an introductory economics class where the experimental approach along with this book is used. I already had lots of microeconomics background and scored a 5 on my AP micro and macro eco exam. I believe that experimental approach to economics, although can be interesting at times, is not suitable for students with little or no economics background. It is essential for students to have a solid grasp of important economic concepts such as marginal cost/revenue, opportunity cost, and the experimental approach lacks in that respect. I tried this course and this book, because I wanted a different angle on something I already knew, and I didn't get much out of it. If you're new to economics, and perhaps want to continue into more economics courses later on, this book/course is not the way. The chapters are no more than explanations of the experiments done in class. Very little reference material exists, and everything is over simplified. By the end of this book, students will not be able to draw the MC/MR/TR/TC curves for perfect competitions/monopoly/oligopoly/monopolistic competiton. I got an A in the course, not because the book was so helpful to me, but because I already knew the stuff before I even registered for the class.
