The best description of Southern society and culture.
John Faulkner succeeded capturing the South better than any author I have read. I grew up near his location and in a family with the same moral and cultural values of his. His family could have been mine. If you want to travel to the South that used to be, that our families helped build after the Civil War and before Korea this is the best way I know to do it. His frugal use of words and his short sentences only add to the authenticity of his descriptions. For those of us from there he brings to life,as none other, what used to be and is to never be again.
Classic, you don't know Faulkner until you've read this book
A wonderful stylist, John tells the intimate story of the Faulkner family that no biographer or academic could. You simply don't know Faulkner until you've read this book.

My Mother Played the Piano
What an extraordinary book about John William Smith's life. Each chapter is a story taken from his childhood, or as a father or a husband -- but most of all as a Christian man. He tells the good, the bad, the sad and many humorous stories that you'll want to share with your friends immediately or read to a loved one. A very special book -- important lessons that emphasize ways to build character by consistant dicipline and unconditional love -- for ourselves and our children.
The book was very moving. I laughed, cried and learned.
My husband tells me I am one to enlarge a story, If I like something it's not a simple, I liked it. It is usually, I really really loved it....it was soooooo good. In the case of the book entitled, "My Mother Played the Piano.....it was the best book I've ever read.....I really really loved it....it was sooooo good! Not many books can touch your heart and make you a different person when you are finished but this book can and it did. Being a story teller myself it validated what I always tell my children...that every bad situation makes a great story later. I would love to personally e-mail the author to tell him what his book meant to me. I believe this is the closest I'm going to get. This is a book that anyone would enjoy.....but mainly parents. It should be mandatory for every parent to read before having children. Thank you Mr Smith for writing about your memories and allowing us all to be apart of your childhood. Debbie Jones Yakima, WA

More than just a reference book!
Looking for a great reference book on the JFK assassination? Tired of searching the bookstores? This book takes care of that. William Scott has written the most complete reference manual I have ever seen.
The book is broken down into two parts. Part One is people and places. From A to Z you find out a small snippet of information about everyone associated with JFK or the assassination.
Part 2 has 18 sections of reference information. From books to singed articles to unsigned articles you won't be able to find a more complete listing than right here. The amount of information is amazing.
This book is not a novel or a research project, rather it is a handy reference book that everyone, from novice to expert researcher should have with them at all times.
Guide to finding the reputable needle in a haystack.
Sorting through all the extravagant theories of who killed JFK can become highly frustrating for the Kennedy enthusiast. So many wild ideas have circulated through our modern culture, most evident in Oliver Stone's JFK, that it has become increasingly difficult to distinguish between possible truth and well conceived fiction. William Scott's new Reference Guide does just this for both the serious researcher and the interested hobbyist. Only the most reliable and historically accurate sources have been included in this research guide, so no longer does the JFK assassination enthusiast have to sort through the wild theories to discover the respectable facts. A must have for anyone serious about their research.

Excellent Book
" Needless to say, it has happened again with John McGlone's excellent Civil War series. ONE OF THE MOST DARING OF MEN by Gerald J.Smith tells the life of Confederate General William Tatum Wofford. ... It is an outstanding work... if you like the Civil War period in this nation's history, you just can't get them any better."Damon Veech,TIMES-PICAYUNE,July,1997

Concise Endocrinology Textbook
This textbook is very user friendly. I prefer this text over the William's textbook of Endocrinology. Very well organized with many good illustrations and tables. Has appendix of endocrine testing as well as common drugs used in endocrinology. Highly reccomended.

Guide of Choice
Unterecker's "Reader's Guide," a vade mecum for the apprentice
or seasoned reader, informs and instructs. As commentary or teaching tool, it advances a concise, systematic way to interpret the ideas, literary devices, images, symbols, and occult motifs that permeate Yeats's poetry, a thematic
analysis that connects one poem with another and reveals the visionary design at the center of Yeats's work. From the allegorical quest in "The Wanderings of Oisin" to the meditative panorama of "Under Ben Bulben," Unterecker explicates the motifs of Yeats's evolving mythology of a unified self.

Richard Ballantine: Cycling's Friendly Fanatic
I've been a cyclist for about twenty five years and in that time I've managed to accumulate a library of books on cycling. Books on everything from custom frames to offroad riding technique. But by far the most enjoyable to read has been this and several others by Mr.Ballantine. Many of the newer cycling books have a compulsive, competitive tone to them, as if the authors assumed the reader was bent on entering the Tour de France. In contrast, Dick Ballantine infuses the reader with his sense of joy and enthusiasm about the pure act of riding and the pure form of the diamond frame bicycle, a design that has accomodated over a hundred years worth of cyclists. But he also manages to cover practical matters--everything from hub overhauls to recumbents. The first chapter is entitled
Get A Bike! Since I first started reading Mr.Ballantine, I've "gotten" five and partly due to him, I've loved them all.

Best character/diversity/art bicycle book...
This book should have never been let go out of print. R's 'Ultimate' book does not replace it. This book has much writing of great character and insight. It covers the whole rainbow of cycling with proper respect and depth, with particular nods to velomobiles, trikes, recumbents and folders. This edition also has the finest assortment of B&W bike sketch art ever published, with superb highlights by the incomparable PAT.

one of our favorites !
This is a beautiful book about an amazing human being. Although we all know the name Roger Tory Peterson, this is the first time I was able to learn about the man and his remarkable life and dedication to his work. Multi-talented, Mr. Petersons art is shown here in his paintings and photography...as my kids said " Awsome!"
Really enjoyed this one
I really enjoyed this coffee-table sized book about the late Roger Tory Peterson, the father of birdwatching. The book is a great resource on Peterson, and includes a biography of him sprinkled with his own words. There are hundreds of brilliant photographs and illustrations by this birding master, and anyone that has ever been interested in birds will enjoy it. Peterson's field guide from the 30s made it easy for anyone to observe birds without having to shoot them. This book is hard to find, but buying a used copy would be a good choice. Enjoy!

Speechless
I was just speechless when I went over just the main theme song from this movie. I also bought the cd and I can say that John Williams truly out did himself with these works.
Schindler Music Strikes deep
John Williams is one of the most gifted people that music has allowed us to be affected by. The process he takes to make his music is far from random. It is all carefully planed, and all built masterly to fit the mood of the film he's composing for. While nearly all of his music is masterfully beautiful and touching, Schindler crosses the line. How Williams knows so much about Jewish music is beyond me, but the way he incorporates it into the score is amazingly touching. While I don't want to go too far, it could be said that the theme from Schindler's List covers all the hardships the country of Israel has had to go through until today. For a while just hearing the soundtrack was enough for me. But soon, I came to the conclusion that I had to learn how to play it, how to make it happen under my own power. And that's when I found this book. For anyone who wants to feel emotions that they haven't felt since they were in 4th grade learning about the Shoah, here it is. Sieze it.

Biography of a Navy Legend
This was a very riveting book. I couldn't put it down. It is a very exciting tale of a true Navy Legend and a national hero. Though there are some chronological gaps, they are minor and the author tells his story well.
A most amazing person.
A biography of remarkable man. From exploits in WWII to making sure our navy personel have the best equipment availible. No shortcuts under his watch. His life reads very nuch like a novel. Many adventures are more exciting than most movies. A thoroughly entertaining and educational account of a remarkable man. Bob
