As a former Chief Law Enforcement Officer, I found this book gripping, with the very REAL potential for the events described within to actually happen in American society within our own lifetime. Brilliant writing, brilliant concept, believable characters and some of the most awesome possible future fiction I have ever read! This book is truly believable in all it's implications for our potential future. ANY serious reader, despite his or her reading preferences will enjoy this book, and finish it feeling haunted. I give this work my highest recommendation and anxiously await the remainder of the series.

In Head Rites, the authors have portrayed how our Government knows more about what we want and need than any of us do. Big Brother is all-knowing. Sound comfortable? God help us if too many believe that.

Head Rites reminded me of Orwell's 1984.

But we know that can't happen. Or can it???????

Let me say that being able to hold this treasure in my hands and to feel the souls of both the artist and those within, provides an experience I never thought I would have. This book is a road map to the soul of all of us and it is my wish for everyone who is fortunate enough to see it that the door to the inner self that shines from Bergman's work is opened to them. It is a rich feeling indeed to be able to open the book at any point and see the face and love of God. Bergman is blessed with a vision that has brought this to Everyman. A KIND OF RAPTURE is a great and universal gift.

These are images that go beyond being visually powerful, they also have a profound spiritual, emotional and intellectual meaning. Toni Morrison's provocative meditation, "The Fisherwoman", is an integral part of this great work of art and provides a perfect entree into a gallery of sacred beauty.

This superb book is nearly uncategorizable. The portraits contained in this volume, described as "color pictures of everyday people" taken with "a simple 35-mm camera, amateur film, no tripod, and no special lighting" are unlike any other photographs ever published. On a technical level, Robert Bergman's work equals the best of any of photographer now working (including any of a number of celebrity lensmen) while his painterly use of color, texture, and composition is unrivaled. This in itself would be enough for most photographers: in sensual terms there's much to startle and delight the eye. But for Bergman, the revelation of the inner life of the subject reigns supreme, and his masterly technique is entirely in the service of his manifest sympathy for each person whom he presents to us. It's here that these images depart so markedly from what we are used to seeing in a photograph of a person--each individual is revealed with the most penetrating gaze, but with such tenderness of spirit as to leave his or her human dignity unsullied. Of the many recent books on wavelets, this one by Jaffard, Meyer et al stands out. This is a new edition of earlier ones, starting with a French one, then a first translation, and now this expanded version. There is lots of new material, covering new developments, both with regards to theory and applications. The authors communicate the main points in a clear and attractive way, and it stresses lucid presentation of ideas over formulas. And with an infectious enthusiasm! The presentation is especially refreshing, in that the authors do not hide behind excessive technicalities and mathematical jargon. It is the central idea that shines through. And yet the mathematically sophisticated reader is paid his dues,-- in some cases via the appendices. At that point, the technical mathematical points have been well motivated. The emphasis of the book is the mathematics behind the many algorithms that emerged from the wavelet trends since the 1980ties. And lots of new stuff added (for example JPEG-2000), right up to the present. The book is rich in applications, many of which are not found elsewhere. The inclusion of motivation and historical remarks is welcome, and makes the book enjoyable reading.

Although this book emphasis is on algorithms and applications, the general presentation of wavelets for signal processing is great. The introduction to the subject is really excellent and great care has been given to explaining the use of wavelets for applications in signal processing. On the other side i found the last chapters dealing with applications a little too light for being useful...

Anyway, a great book for "wavelets and applications in signal processing"...(also go to "Time-Frequency Time-scale analysis" by Patrick Flandrin which is wonderful).

I liked all the case studies, it makes it easier to learn. Also it was interesting to read and

well writen.

I read this book when I was a year two social work student. This book provides us a detailed examples and explanation for each type of mental disorders.

This book reproduces the original travel book created by David Roberts in the early 1800s. Though not as large as the original book, the reproductions are quite large and beautifully done. David Robert's lithographs are magical.

Roberts portrayal of the holy land as it appeared thousands of years ago brings to life what once could only be described by the words of the bible. A visit to the mid-east would not be complete without first studying Robert's book. One's perspective as they visit the holy land would then blend today's rituals with that of the past.

I was captivated when I first read the Life of St. Antony, most likely written by the staunchly Orthodox church father Athanasius (I say 'probably' because some scholars doubt that Athanasius wrote it, however I noticed many similarities between 'Life of Antony' and 'On the Incarnation'). The book reads like a novel at times, telling of Antony's battles with demons, and his traveling farther into the desert to avoid publicity and temptation. There is also an interesting segment when Antony lives by a mountain and a cool stream, and animals are eating his small amount of grain. He gently grabs the animals and asks them why they bother him when he does not bother them? They returned no more after that. We are also told of Antony's journey into Alexandria after persecutions broke out there. Antony himself desperately wanted to be martyred, but instead he offered encouragement and consolation to those who were going to be killed. One individual whose martyrdom is mentioned is Peter, the Bishop of Alexandria at that time. Near the end of the book, Antony returns again to Alexandria, this time to dispel rumors that he is an Arian (a heretical group of the early 4th century which denied the full divinity of the Son). Athanasius makes it clear that Antony was a Nicaean.

The rest of the work could be described as a kind of a monastic manual, with particular emphasis on fighting demons. Athanasius records Antony's struggles, and tells his readers how to recognize and fight the devil. Throughout the story, the power of the sign of the cross is stressed, and we are urged to sign our houses and ourselves in order to repel evil. Near the very end, Antony debates various Greek philosophers regarding the Cross and the Incarnation. Antony, despite being uneducated, holds his own with the men, and they leave having learned something.

Antony is the vehicle for many miracles, but those who sought help are always told to give the glory to God, because Antony himself really did nothing. Antony is the picture of Biblical humility and self-denial. The life of Antony is a powerful example to all Christians. My church history professor said that if you only have time to read one book from the Patristic period, 'Life of Antony' should be that book. I couldn't agree more: the Life of Antony is a spiritual classic.

This book is very comprehensive for undergraduate level in Electrical Engineering. I am glad that I found this book in my school engineering library. I would suggest if any student is interested in mixed signal, this book is a good one to give you fundamental knowledge.

I am a working Ph.D. level school psychologist and I use this book on a daily basis. It covers all of the primary psychological diagnoses of childhood and provides overviews of assessment and treatment. A great tool for those who work with children with mental health difficulties and/or teach psychopathology of children. An important supplement to the DMS-IV TR.

This author, Robert S. Feldman, is a genius. He has finally found a way to write an interesting textbook! This textbook has something for every type of learner. There are plenty of colorful illustrations and pictures for the visual learner. He includes many stories to provide examples on the topics discussed in the book, for people who need reference to some real-life examples. Also, the book is easily readable and not boring, for people who tend to fall asleep while reading books.

I thought the beginning chapters about children were particularly interesting. I would highly recommend this book to any parent, anyone about to become a parent, or anyone thinking about becoming a parent. The author talks about a lot of issues relating to learning and social development... something very important in life. Also, this is a new textbook published just this year so you are sure to get up-to-date information.
