Finally - IN HIS OWN WORDS
It's great to have Douglass' work in its own terms here - not as framed by some academic historian without a clue as to what freedom fights are really like.

wonderful, accesible history for young adults!
Meltzer writes the story of the Holocaust from an interesting viewpoint. Becuse he is a young 15 year old American Jew, watching the events of the war from afar, he brings a passion to the delivery of the historical information that makes it more engaging and powerful. The organization of the book into chapters according to chronology makes it easy to read as a whole, or a reader can use it to research a particular aspect of the Holocaust. As a teacher of middle schoolers, books that are so accessible and interesting are hard to find. I would recommend any reader interested in the subject to start here- you won't find much better!

DULL BOOK ON A TIRED SUBJECT
Have we not indoctrinated the children of America enough on this irrelevent subject? More division is not what our nation needs, yet Meltzer drags out this collection of sorry cliches to keep alive the racial divide that separates our society. If there is racism in America today, it is directed at white Christian males--the only group still permitted to suffer discrimination. This book is representitive of the bilge that wins Newberry Awards--demonstrating that children's book are as brain dead as the "important" tomes reviewed in the New York Times Book Review Magazine.
A great, short history
This book is a great, short history of the battle for civil rights for African Americans. Beginning with the arrival of the first African slaves at Jamestown in 1619, and continuing through to today. The history ends with a chapter spelling out the author's plan for future civil rights action, and then follows a wonderful timeline of important dates and events in the fight for civil rights.
This book is intended for children, but makes a great read for anyone interested in the history of civil rights in the United States. The book is not written with dispassion, there is for example a reference to "Gestapo-like" policemen. But, considering the events that are being recounted, it is hard to imagine how dispassion could possibly be maintained. Overall, this is a very good book, one that I highly recommend.

The Terrorists
Since September 11, the USA had been changed forever by the attacks on america. The Twin Towers, The Pentagon and all the lives lost will be remembered forever. But the horrifc as it may seem terroism has been causing pain for many people, in many centuries ( 10 to be exact). In the book " The Terrorists" by Milton Metlzer, you will learn that terrorism is not anything new. It tells abou5 the Muslim Assassins to the Naizs. Did you that there was terrorism in the South in the 1700's to the 1800's and through the early 1900's? That group was called the Ku Klux Klan also know as the KKK and they are still around today. In this book you will learn things that you probably did'nt know. Did you know that 60% of all terrorist are women mainly from Russia and Germany? Did you know that there are sub divisions of the Nazis called neo-nazis? In this book you will learn about the origin, leaders, location and unique members of each of the terrorist groups. This book does hav some graphic pictures so viewer discretioin is needed. But overall this is a so-so book.

Andy would say ouch...
This short book reduced the complex life of Andrew Carnegie into that of a power-hungry celebrity that repeatedly waffled on important issues throughout his life and was compelled to leave his name on everything he touched. This argument would have been justified had the author not tended to consistently weigh Carnegie's faults against good works or positive aspects of his personality. However, there were many interesting stories of his youth and rise to power. Nevertheless, several grammatical and spelling mistakes take away from an enjoyable experience with this book.
