Yum!
I loved the book "Yum". It's about the three little pigs and the wolf. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fairy tales! The wolf is a very funny character in this story. I love to read this book to my little cousin...she laughs every time! So if you have a child or a little brother or sister you should buy this book!

cute little story...but...?
I got this book in hopes it would be a helpful tool in learning Vietnamese. The text is simple enough, but my Vietnamese friend kept giving me alternative translations because she was skeptical that it was the best translation into that language. Not that I personally could judge... However, I am looking for more of these parallel texts between Vietnamese and English and wish there were more...

Lots of Fun
This imaginative book tells of an innocent little pig followed around the neighborhood by a hungry and scheming wolf. Each page shows Preston walking around the neighborhood seemingly in imminent danger (connoted by the words "when suddenly!" with "suddenly" in big bold type). As noted above, this is almost the pig and wolf equivalent of the Road Runner and Wiley Coyote (except the pig never plots against the wolf), and there are similarly benign results for the pig and violent injury to the wolf. The "violence" is cartoonish, but it's there (wolf is run over by his own steam roller, Billy the Bully gets bitten instead of our hero, Preston, the wolf crashes to the floor, and heavily bandaged wolf heads off to "wolf hospital): You may or may not believe such material is appropriate for your child. We thought it was alright, and the "Suddenly!" hook is a lot of fun (especially for you dramatic readers out there). Big, colorful, sometimes "Mad Magazine" style pictures in its 26 pages. This would also be a very good book for the beginning reader

good fun
easy reading level , but enough twists in the good humored plot to keep it interesting. If you like this, check our "the Trouble with Boys"

A book review by a 9 year old girl.
I like it but it's not really exciting in the beginning, but in the ending it's great the way the author captured my attention. I gave it four stars because he didn't use good word choice, he didn't really have good illustrations, but I liked it a lot.

My three-year-old's favorite
We love this book in our house--I love to read it as much as the boys love to hear it.

I wonder if some of the reviewers actually read the book--Maisy, the main character who "loves poetry", is a girl, not a boy.

These pirate teachers are hilarious!
My students love this book so much I had to buy a second copy! A playful twist on parental expectations with a smart female protagonist. Pirate school is so fun it'll make you and your children want to sign up next semester.

Adventure all the way
A timeless classic, written by Robert Louis Stevenson was a great book for those of us who like adventure. The book begins at the Admiral Benbow Inn, which Jim Hawkins, the main character works. Suddenly, from out of the blue a rough sea faring man appears named Billy. That is when the real adventure begins!! Jim and his mother find a treasure map in a dead customers sea trunk. Jim got a couple of respectable people together and they bought a ship named the Hispaniola and set of sail for Treasure Island, not knowing the problems that lay before them. I think the author wanted the them to be, be careful whom you trust. I fully enjoyed this book and I think you will too. To find out the rest read, Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Treasure Island is a treasure itself!
"Treasure Island," written by the 19th century novelist, Robert Louis Stevenson, is the timeless story about life on the high seas with pirates, treasure, murder, and treachery.

When young and naive Jim Hawkins is given a treasure map from the mysterious old pirate, Billy Bones, adventure and trouble are not far behind. Soon Jim finds himself aboard a ship with a villainous crew led by the cunning and mendacious pirate, Long John Silver. Greed and the lust for gold driving the pirates, they have murder in mind when they reach the dubious Treasure Island.

Skillfully yet simply written, Robert Louis Stevenson gives us an alluring tale that sparks the imagination. With its dastardly plot and mothly crew of rogues and villains, it entrances the reader, and keeps them wanting more. "Treausure Island" is the perfect read for anyone just wanting a good, exciting story.

Real World Writing
Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson is by far one of the best adventure stories I have ever read. This book deserves all five stars, it has everything you could ask for such as, suspense, comedy, action, drama and a great plot line. R.L. Stevenson puts a lot of detail into his main characters such as Long John Silver and Jim Hawkins just to name a few. He describes the scenes with such great detail that at times I had to remind myself that it is only a book. I spent more than 2 months reading this book and I enjoyed every part of it. I could RARELY find a paragraph that was dull, the book was very exciting overall. This book is fairly easy to read and I would recommend it to adults and children of all ages. The book moves at a very good pace, not too fast, not too slow. This book is anything but boring, something new happens in every chapter for instance, when Jim witnesses a murder and when he gets into bar fights, those are just some of the many things that happened. I was very surprised myself when I read this book because it seems a little childish but in fact it's quite the contrary. I highly recommend that you go out and read this book!

Oops!
We got Suddenly! for my three boys (ages 8,6, and 3) and they loved it. So they were really excited when we got them Oops!

Colin McNaughton's stories are so successful because you get to yell when you read them. My boys like loud fun books.

We really enjoyed Oops! The boys said it could have used a few more yelling parts (there aren't as many as in Suddenly!) but they enjoyed the humor and have added it to their list of favorites.

Great Little Book
"So can I" is a great little book I picked up on a bargain stand and wore out because we read it so many times. It's part of a series called the Red Nosed Readers by Allan Ahlberg. Each book is a series of short little stories. The only other one I have seen is called "Make a Face". I suspect these books were made to help teach kids how to read. We wore them out way before the kids ever learned how to read. They have great little pictures, repetitive phrases, and funny endings. These two little books were all it took to hook us on Allan Ahlbergs books. Wish I could find out how many other Red Nosed Readers are in the series---all out of print from what I can tell.

Very Disappointing
I thought this book would contain fun and silly rhymes for young children, and was so disappointed I'm returning it. The verse and illustrations are gross and rather negative (children being pains and obnoxious), with a good deal of focus on bodily fluids like barf, snot, etc. I wouldn't say that this book is "wickedly funny," but rather, low-brow. Look instead to the poems for children written by author Roald Dahl; they are much more clever, sophisticated, and funny. Children by nature like to be inspired and uplifted, not dragged into the gutters.

Tripe..when it's lukewarm, smelly and ripe!
What a brilliant book.
It's hilarious!
Not so much for younger children, perhaps...
but a delight for preteens, teens, and adults!
It's been a favorite of mine for a long time.

my son loves it but it drives me mad...
My son loves this story and the various perils that befall Mr Wolf. However, parents be warned! This story is very dialogue heavy and it actually quite awkward when read aloud. I was sick of it after the second reading and I am not on my thirtieth at least!
