Surprisingly dull McNaught
I didn't particularly enjoy Judith McNaught's contribution to this collection, it just couldn't get off the ground for me. I'm still giving the book four stars, mainly for Jude Deveraux' touching story, but also for Judith O'Brien, whom I had never read anything of before, but whose short story was just perfect for Christmas and very exciting.

Better than what I expected
The five stories are delightful. I purchased the book just for Judith McNaught's 'Double Exposure' story. But,the other stories are additional benefits and gifts for the readers. Heartwarming stories from these five leading ladies. Judith McNaught's and Kimberly Cates' stories make me cried with its own twist of heartwrenching emotions. Andrea Kane and Jude Deveraux excelled in delivering quick, witty romance stories that surely make readers laughed along as the plot progressed. And the story from Judith O'Brien will surely make readers sighed and wished for long lost love that screams eternity. After reading the book, it is a sure bet that these authors will excel more in writing short stories in the near future.

EACH STORY AS CAPTIVATING AS THE NEXT.
I ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THIS BOOK FOR THE JUDITH MCNAUGHT STORY. WHICH WAS AS GOOD AS I EXPECTED. THE ADDED TREAT CAME FROM THE OTHER FOUR STORIES. ALL LOVE STORIES WITH A CHRISTMAS THEME, FULL OF MAGICAND HOPE AND CHARACTERS THAT TOUCH YOUR HEART. A BOOK TO TREASURE AND RE-READ.

Can I give it 4 1/2 stars???
I first read this book in the paperback edition, and I enjoyed it. Not my favorite Judith McNaught book, because that's Paradise, and I still can't get over that one, but it's a great book nonetheless. Clayton and Whitney are an amazing couple, and Judith McNaught spun this creation with a vivid imagination and only be described as loaned from God.

The hard cover is great because it picks up a little of what was left off of the paperback. And it just continues to add to the story. The paperback edition ends a little abruptly, so the hardcover takes care of the loose ends that you might feel. It's also great b/c other books were spun off from this one that I thoroughly enjoyed as well.

Fall in Love with this Book!
Whitney, My Love is the first book I read by this author, and I was awed. In this story, a young, unappealing girl becomes a swan and realizes that her childhood dream of marrying Paul is becoming an impossibility because of someone else's decision for her to marry a different person. Her immediate reaction and subsequent actions are delightfully humorous, yet at the time slightly frustrating. When she finally realizes that she wants the Duke, they have a misunderstanding and a separation occurs. When reading this part of the story, the reader can so easily feel the depth of emotion each character is feeling. Throughout several more misunderstandings, the same feelings occur. McNaught's ability to create emotion is outstanding. If you enjoy this book, be sure also to read Once and Always, which features Stephen, the Duke's brother you will meet in Whitney, My Love. A Holiday of Love also contains a short story about Nicholas DuVille, whom you will also meet. All three books convey the depth of emotion and desire involved in falling in love. It lets you fall in love all over again!

simply the best
This is the book that started it all. This was the first time I had heard of Judith McNaught and I fell so hard for Whitney and Clayton that I have eagerly awaited McNaught's every book. Her characters are unique -- believable, funny, charming and this story, in particular, makes you want to fall in love all over again.

I loved Corey, but found that the short story didn't allow the author to really develop the male character.

Deveraux Sparkles While McNaught Turns Out Rather Dull
My mother had this book on her shelf and I was a big McNaught fan for awhile so I decided to check it out, not having read Jude Deveraux before. "Miracles" was good for a short story, but I agree that Nicki Duville deserved his own full length story as long as it ISN'T a combination of recycled story-lines she's used before. "Miracles" reminded me a lot of "Something Wonderful" and I'm SO sick of her characters lack of mis-communication and how the men seem all the same. Gorgeous, brooding, slightly dangerous *yawn* She needs a book where her female character is a match for the hero not just brain wise. It is the age of girl power, Ms. McNaught! "Double Exposure" was boring for me and I enjoyed Jude Deveraux's contributions much better! "Just Curious" made me laugh out loud, especially at Karen's clever come-backs to Mac. I'd rather have one of the Taggert brothers any day than a Westmoreland; kudos to Jude Deveraux for making men who aren't all carbon copies of each-other and are truly dreamy. "Change of Heart" was also delightful. Randy was the most believable heroine I've ever read and I loved her romance with Frank. I haven't read any Deveraux books before, but I think I'm definitely going to have to start. Sorry, Ms. McNaught, you used to be my favorite, but unless you start coming up with something more original I think you've been bumped...

wonderful stories that should have been novels
As mentioned in the title of my review, each of the short stories should have been made into full length novels, especially Nicki DuVille's story "Miracles." Nicki was such a wonderful hero in Whitney and Until You, but "Miracles" was over before it even got started. Ms. McNaught could have easily made Nicki's story into another one of her amazing historicals. On the other hand, "Double Exposure" with Corey Foster was a great little prequel to Remember When. Spence was a wonderful counterpart to Corey, and I enjoyed reading their story immensely. My favorite over all was "Just Curious." I loved Mac, and Karen was a great foil to him. Their story was completely adorable and sweet and ended way too soon for my liking.

A slight disappointment, but still entertaining...
Judith McNaught is my all-time favorite author. She can weave a tale unlike any other. The emotions she can invoke are unmatched and soon you find yourself so wrapped up in the story that you are one of the characters, too. For any of you reading this, I suggest reading all of McNaught's works because she is absolutely wonderful. I have been anticipating this book for quite sometime now. Unfortunately, I had high expectations for this book and the book didn't quite meet them. From any other author, I would have given this book 5 stars, to be sure. The story seemed a bit predictable, and rushed. It was highly entertaining, but it didn't have that 'spark' that is the trademark of McNaught's work. I enjoyed the secondary story between McCord and Sam much more than the main storyline. Their story seemed to be written with more passion and conviction. I think that the book industry is too saturated with romantic thrillers. I really think that they take away from the development of the characters because they focus so much on 'solving the crime.' I believe that Judith McNaught is too terrific of an author to slip herself into that category.

Good, but not the best
Though it pains me to give only three stars to ANYTHING that Judith McNaught writes, I have to consider this book with the other books that she's written. She is my favorite author, she wrote my all time favorite romance novel, and I waited anxiously (as I'm sure many did) for this book.

I wasn't necessarily disappointed, because it was a good book. However, I'm so used to the characters that STAY with me, that become a part of me as well - like Whitney, Meredith (from Paradise), and Julie (from Perfect).

Don't get me wrong - these characters are good, the story is entertaining, and it's a good read. But when I put the book down, the characters didn't jump out of the pages and follow me, like her characters usually do. I wait anxiously for the next book.

One word - WOW!
Someone to Watch Over Me is undoubtedly one of the best among Judith's novels - and a highlight for me as a fan of more than 12 years.. Leigh Kendall is a heroine who will remind you of other "innately good" female JM characters - think Elizabeth Cameron and Meredith Bancroft. It's much more of a traditional mystery than some other novels by JM we've read, which really surprised me... but she *is* Judith McNaught after all and she does NOT skimp on the romance. In fact, there are not one but two men in this book who you will definitely want to curl up with during this snowy winter we're having...
I have to say it was worth every day of the long wait - For those who have been a little disappointed in more recent JM efforts, such as Night Whispers and Remember When, because they were much shorter than some of her earlier works, don't worry - this one is a nice, long well-rounded yarn you won't want to put down. Enjoy it.

Fine Short Holiday Fictions
Fans of Judith McNaught's Westmoreland novels will love her contribution to "Holiday of Love". It's the long-awaited love story of Nicki DuVille, and, though far too short, was well worth the wait. I will tell you only one thing: she is a woman you have seen before.

The first and last stories, by Devereaux and Lamb, are more than a little drab. "Daniel's Angel" is a lovely bit of fantasy about a fallen angel and hard-hearted Scrooge who find that they need each other.

I AGREE, ABSOLUTELY UNFAIR MCNAUGHT
I agree with the majority of the other readers, like them I felt that Nicki should have a full length novel because I too feel in love with his character in Whitney My Love. I happened to read the story of Stephen first and the tidbits of Nicki's character had be searching old boxes and shelves of friends personal libraries looking for a copy of Whitney My Love. When I had found it I was appalled at the injustice of it all. For Nicki to twice loose the girl to a Westmoreland. Even though I really enjoyed both tales I was hoping for an even better story for Nicki so consider my suprise when I found out that this was what you had in store for him. After twice being denied he should have had a full story considering the length of both the other novels. I sincerely hope that something could be done with Nicki's story that could pacify us readers because we are very disappointed. Use the power of the pen as you have always done!!! Good luck. (Suggestion) Maybe something like the story of Spence and Corey expand .

Heart Warming
There are four short love stories in this book, written by 4 different authors, of which, three is my favorite. Jude Deveraux, Judith McNaught & Julie Garwood. The fourth & last story was written by Arnette Lamb. I haven't heard of her before but after reading her short novella called, Hark! The Herald. I can't wait to pick up more of her books. This is also my first novellas. It is somewhat different from reading a whole book with one plot & with same characters. However, I find it rather unfullfilling. That is the only reason why I rate this book 4 stars. It's just too short for my liking. Read below to find out more...

First Novella: Change of Heart, By Jude Deveraux::::: This short story is about a genius 12 yr old boy name Eli. He wasn't rich yet lived with his mother in decent means. He befriended a billionaire, Frank Taggert. Love match making begun with the help of Frank's brother, Micheal Taggert & his wife Samantha, who couldn't wait to see Frank settled down. Mike & Sam's love story is in the book called, Sweet Liar. Since I thouroughly enjoyed Sweet Liar, It was good to read updates of them & their children. Eli's mother, Miranda is a very good mother, kind hearted & unselfish. I liked her attitude towards life. Though, she was attractive, she was described as 30 pounds over weight. I guess there are times, i get tired of reading a physically perfect heroine so this really appealled to me. Frank however is rich & handsome but his heart is as cold as ice. His friendship to Eli changed his outlook in life & his meeting with Miranda changed his heart forever. This story is simply heart warming esp. this Xmas season. The plot & the characters are very interesting that once again, i hated for it to end so suddenly. I wished JD would rewrite this short story & make it into a whole novel with more details. It really has potentials... especially if the friendship of Eli & Chelsea, perhaps their growing years together, would be added into it. This is why i rate it 4 stars. I wanted to read more.... Aside from my uncontentment, overall, it is a good book!

Second Novella: Miracles, By Judith McNaught::::: Now this story really bugged me! You see, I have read J.M's Whitney, My Love & Until You. Just like every reader who have read the mentioned books, I have been waiting for Nicholas Duville's story. He was one of my favorite hero of all times. He's smooth, cool, handsome, decent & kind hearted. He has fallen for Whitney & Sheridan in both books yet gave them up, even helped them find their true happiness in another man's hands. Now if that isn't heroic, I don't know what is. When I heard this book have Nikk's story, i bought it right away only to be disappointed. His story is too short. I agree with other reviewers here in Amazon that he deserves a book of his own. Once again, the story has full potential for a novel. Good plot, and Julianna was a darling. She was also in the book, UNTIL YOU. I liked her very much then that I wish to read more of her & of Nikki... Perhaps J.M. would rewrite this into a one book novel. I would buy it in a snap.

Third Novella: Daniel& the Angel, By Jill Barnett::::: This is perhaps my favorite story in this book. It is short yet fulfulling. Just like it should be. It doesn't leave you hanging or wanting to read more... perfect story for Xmas too. Lillian is an angel in heaven who kept getting herself into trouble. When she ruined St. Peter's gate, she was exiled back to earth. D.L Stewarts, a very rich yet uncaring man believed that money can buy everything, from love to people. As an ex-angel, her outlook on life was purely opposite to his, believing there is always good in every person & that money cannot buy people nor love. A challenge was made between them... St. Peter also gave Lillian another chance if she could perform a miracle here on Earth. She must make D.L Stewart give his heart out unconditionally in order for her to return to heaven & be an angel again. Would she succeed? But then... if she succeeds, what would happend if she returns to heaven? esp. when she finds herself in love with him? This story really touched my heart. The cute angelic occurances, the archangels, it's wings, halo, clouds.... the riddles & quotes all lifted my heart. It is a perfect reading tool this xmas time.

Fourth Novella: Hark! The Herald, By Arnette Lamb::::: Randolf Mcqueen found himself love at first sight at the Scottish King Herald, Elizabeth Gordon. He was known as a womanizer yet he couldn't seduce the most intriguing woman in their land. He found himself being chivalrous & patient... I enjoyed the way Randolf tries to win Elizabeth heart. The challenges & the bets... their bantering is also quite funny. I liked the way Elizabeth carry herself ; the way she takes pride in what she does. Although, I couldn't believe she was actually wearing a chastity belt! This story also include a short interesting history of the Scots & the English. The peace and unity of the Highland clans was a nice ending. This story is warm & fitted for the holiday.

disappointing despite some wonderful scenes
I am a fan of Judith McNaught and I buy each one of her books in hardcover because I just can`t wait for the mass market edition. This one was a real disappointment.

Most of the teenage stuff was a shoddy rewrite of "Double Exposure", the novella about Corey, I wasn't sure if some wasn`t actually the same word for word - it felt like the focus was on Corey, not Diana.

The "connections" between the scenes were weak, though there were some great scenes for which I just love McNaught: the ball, the lunch with the whole family, her desperate trip to his country house, pure McNaught, beautiful, heartfelt, a delight. And then again, in between, no strong pacing, just fill-ins.

I read that she had some hard times privately during the writing, which brought a lot of delays in publishing. Well, my advice would be to take even longer and bring us a wonderful book, instead of letting outside pressures dictate when a novel should come out. Please, Judith, take your time for the next one!

You know... I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Rich Girl meets and falls for Poor Boy on the other side of the tracks... 15 yrs old Diana Foster has a secret teenage crush on 21 yrs old college student, Cole Harrison- who works at the stable of the neighbor of the Fosters. Years later.... Cole is a billionaire with his own company, rated in the 50 most eligible bachelors in the world- Diana is a strong wealthy businesswoman with her own company, family operated. Diana has just been jilted by her fiancee of 2 years that has just run off and married an 18 year old model. Cole and Diana meet at a society fund raiser where Cole comes to Diana's rescue pretending to be her lover while the tabloids and society's gossip gives Diana a rough time. Their relationship takes off from there. You'll not believe how fast it takes off, either. I'll not spoil it for you-you'll have to read it to find out for yourself.

I agree their relationship could have been more developed for the reader. But it was sort of nice to read a book that did not dive heavy into the sex. I loved the characters. And those reviewers that are asking "When did Cole and Diana fall in love?" or "What did they look like?" -did they read the same book I did? First, there was their friendship & respect during their school years... and then their friendship & respect w/admiration added to it that bloomed into love. Gosh, if I had had a gentleman that came to my aide like Cole did for Diana- I would have had stars in my eyes too! Plus, he did not make her feel inferior like she had felt with Dan when they did make love. We were told heights, builts, eye & hair colors, shapes of chins, skin tone, etc. What more do you want? Hey, do you like one-liners? I loved it when Diana's PR girl comes into the room talking and laughing about the tabloids announcing the marriage of Diana to Cole (not realizing that had actually happened)and their companies possibly merging together and describes it like "the shark eating the guppy." She then sees Cole coming into the room and ask what he is doing there and he says "I'm the shark that ate the guppy." GREAT! I laughed out loud. There were several great moments with humor. Read it and enjoy! P.S. I bougth this one for my library, I liked it that much.

Once again... outstanding!
I don't understand how anyone could give this book less than 5 stars. It is not written in Judith McNaught's typical style... couple meets, couple falls in love, misunderstandings occur where both think the other has wronged them, and then all works out... this was better! If you enjoyed 'Paradise' and its sequel 'Perfect', I guarantee you will love this one. 'Remember When' briefly mentions Matt Farrell from 'Paradise' and it is about a once nobody turned tycoon but it is not boring because there isn't so much strife between the main couple. I think it's better because of it. There is enough strife in real life. Cole meets Diana when he's a college student working as a stable hand and she a pampered but not stuck up daughter of a wealthy man. They have a great friendship from the beginning... and it only gets better. I love reading when a couple stands up to anybody for the other. If you don't like that then don't read it. This will remain in my keeper shelf.

These authors are PROFESSIONALS???
I love romance anthologies, and I know that Deveraux and McNaught are popular, well-known authors. I was very disappointed in the writing of these stories. The authors break or ignore all known writing rules that beginning writers are taught: in two of the stories, we don't meet either the hero or heroine for the first couple of pages. The first paragraphs of "Double Exposure" describe two women, Diana and Kristin, and yet NEITHER ONE is the heroine. Ditto for "Change of Heart." Also, none of the four stories were all that entertaining or uplifting, let alone wreathed in Christmas spirit. All in all, a disappointing 'effort' by otherwise well-known, successful authors.

Somewhat disappointed
I had waited and waited for so, so long for a story on Nicky and was really disappointed to find his story in this collection. Throughout most of her historical romance bestsellers, he was the champion for her heroines and deserve much better. I had expected him to have his own book. I am not sure why Ms. McNaught decided to cut his story short, but I am sure that I am speaking for all her fans out there, that she should consider publishing a full story on Nicky.

It's Great!
Just like the characters in this books I fell in love with the stories within moments. And I also belive each of the story here deserved to be a full-length novel. They are all so great it will keep you wanting for more. Specially with Nicks story, I have waited for so long to read his story and I was a little disappointed when I found out it's a well... short. I haven't read the first published version of this book and I based I review with this current version.

Had some promise,
Initially this book had some promise, and I was interested in the characters, up until Palm beach. Sloan was an interesting character and i felt she was well developed. As for the rest, i really found them boring, and they had no personality. Noah Maitland had no appeal to me, he was tall dark handsome(typical) and of course wealthy. BORING!! It would be nice if men in romance novels were not always tall dark and handsome. It gets a little boring. Judith Mcnaught did a poor job with this character. She has done a better job with her other male characters in her previous novels. Also there was no magic or intensity between Noah and Sloan and frankly i didn't care much for their relationship. There was no wit, and sexual chemistry between Sloan and Noah. I was disappointed with this book. There was no romance and no interesting plot line. I got the impression she put effort in the first part of the book, before Palm Beach, but after that, it seems like she wasn't writing with passion. If you're a Mcnaught fan , you may read this out of curiosity (like i did) but don't buy the hardcover. I only hope her next book will be better.

A great read
This is my first book from Judith McNaught and because I hate to read even the back cover before starting in fear of ruining the plot, I was definately pleasantly surprised by Night Whispers. I actually found myself laughing at some of the dialogue and I really enjoyed the characters she created.

Since you can read other reviews to find out more about the plot line I'll give the basics. Sloan Reynolds is the main character who happens to be a beautiful police woman. Her father whom she has never known calls her and invites her to Palm Beach for two weeks to get to know the family. Sloan debates about it and decides to go. What follows is a story about getting to know a long lost sister, falling in love and being involved in an FBI investigation.

The chapters went by very quickly and I hated to put it down to go to sleep. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and would definately love to read another book by Judith McNaught.... especially if it is true that the other reviewers seem to think.. that this isn't her best because it was still very entertaining.

FANTASTIC! AWESOME! DEFINITE PAGE TURNER!
This was my first JM book, and I was very surprised to read some other readers didn't care for it. I myself couldn't put it down. I used to be a big Nora Roberts fan, but her last few books were less than spectacular. A friend was always trying to get me read Judith McNaught, but I didn't care for historicals. Happened to see Night Whispers at the library, and once I started, just couldn't put it down. Loved all the characters. Book had all the ingredients that I enjoy--opposites attract, sister relationships, love, humor, law enforcement, family, suspense (though I do agree with the comments about the murder plot being so predictable). If Ms. McNaught is reading this, PLEASE do sequels featuring a grown-up Courtney and about Sara and Jess.
