If you're new to Western Classical music and want to get into it, you're probably presented with a severe problem, namely, where to begin. If this is so, then this book solves the problem by providing concise and insightful anecdotes on most of the major composers and their works. So it's essentially a compendium of reviews, but mostly I agree with the author's perceptions and recommendations.
Very well written, so even if you're not a music buff, I still recommend this book for any sort of reading.

Moliere (nee Jean Baptiste Poquelin) is the greatest dramatist of France, and certainly one of the world's finest. As a comic playwright, he is unparalleled. We all know the story of Don Juan, but mostly from pop-culture sources. Please read this play to discover the definitive Don Juan. As with most of his works, this shows an impeccable comic sensibility, a poignant understanding of human nature, and great skill in storytelling.

This book is the most uninformative book i have ever read. I would not recomend it to anyone

This book is very good (considering its small size). It is actually done with taste, as opposed to the most recent books on the subject.

These stroies are worth reading,but the translations in this book are fairly bland. In fact, the translation for Ajax is pretty bad. I don't think I've ever seen the word twinkie used in a Greek trajedy before. I would recomend picking up other versions of these plays.

If you're looking for a brief overview of Aristotle and his writings, don't waste your time or money on this book. It only deals with the Poetics. A better and much more complete look at Aristotle is a book called "On Aristotle" from the Wadsworth Philosophers Series. It's a few dollars more, but it's money well spent.
