Baptists on the American Frontier: A History of Ten Baptist Churches of Which the Author Has Been Alternately a Member

John Taylor's biography & book: humble Pioneer Gospel Genius
The biography of Pioneer Baptist preacher, John Taylor (1752-1835, Virginia-Kentucky) was superbly researched and written by Chester Raymond Young, the editor. His annotation of John's pithy, and sometimes rambling discourse, on his 10 Baptist Churches in the Bluegrass and Ohio R. region of early Kentucky, really helps one to understand the history of the pioneer settlers. By reading the biography first, one gains a much deeper appreciation of who the people and family members are, whom John Taylor mentions in his book. This is a treasure trove for both geneologists and students of religion.

One of the classics about the assasination of JFK
Written at the family's request between 1964-68, this is one of the most detailed accounts of the JFK case, Although embracing the official perspective - L.H. Oswald the lone killer / no conspiracy - the book is a detailed story of the last days of President Kennedy's life and the next days until the funeral, the deeds of lots of White House staff, the president's family, Dallas people and the touching reaction of American people - the ones which shoudn't have asked what America can do for them, but what THEY can do for America. William Manchester is one of the great non-fiction writers which makes written history as vivid as real life. "The death of a president" is one of his masterpieces - famous enough to be translated into romanian, the language in which I first read it, since it is my mother tongue.

Very Good!!!
My dad spent hundreds of hours slaving on this book, (which by the way is VERY interesting!) so I'm sure he did an excellent job (~even though I can't even pronounce 99% of the words and not to mention the title!!) Good job, Dad!!

Very helpful text.
I like the fact that this book discusses how to make the design and layout of a facility function in its favor. As I read it, it continues to remind me that a lot of thought has to be put into the environment of the facility and people within various specialties must be integrated to make everything work smoothly.

Early Fur Trade on the Northern Plains: Canadian Traders Among the Mandan and Hidatsa Indians, 1738-1818
Published in Paperback by Univ of Oklahoma Pr (Trd) (1999)
Authors: David Thompson, John Macdonell, Charles W. McKenzie, Franaois-Antoine Larocque, W. Raymond Wood, and Thomas D. Thiessen
Amazon base price: $29.95

Excellent
This is a well written and engaging look into the importance of the Mandan and Hidatsa Indian villages as a pivotal point in trade systems during the late 1700's through early 1800's. Being located along the Missouri River in present day North Dakota, the Mandan/Hidatsa Indians traded horses, robes and furs to Canadian Fur Companies in return for guns and ammunition. They would then trade these goods for other commodities from various Northern Plains Indian Tribes, who previously may have traded with other tribes or the Spaniards further south. In part one, the authors give a lengthy but excellent and relevant chronological introduction as to the fur trade history of this geographical area. Part two includes five journals (or excerpts) of some of these Northwest Fur Company traders' first hand accounts depicting life as it was: John Macdonell's descriptions of the Indians, geography and trade in the 1790's; David Thompson's narrative describing his harrowing 1797 journey from Fort Assiniboine to the Mandan villages in the dead of winter; Larocque's two narratives, the "Missouri (1804)" and "Yellowstone (1805)" Journals, the latter of which, in the company with Crow Indians, he may possibly have been the first white man to descend the Yellowstone River, pre-dating William Clark by more than a year. The final narrative is of Charles McKenzie's four journeys to the Mandan villages (1804-1806), the first two in company with Larocque's expeditions. This is a fascinating read for fur trade enthusiasts and/or those whose interests are in early western exploration.

A good text for allied health and nursing students.
This is an excellent introduction to health care ethics. Covers theory and principles and ethical decision-making in the first several chapters and the major issues in health care in the remaining chapters. The writers don't bog down in discussing these issues as do some current texts in bioethics. Very readable. Does not have cases so if one uses this for instruction a book with a collection of cases is needed (i.e. Cases Studies in Allied Health Ethics by Veatch and Flack).

Forensic Geology
Published in Hardcover by Prentice Hall PTR/Sun Microsystems Press (20 March, 1998)
Authors: Raymond C. Murray and John C.F. Tedrow
Amazon base price: $65.20
Average review score:

Amazing and Interesting Read
This book is ideal for anyone interested in or studying this topic. Everything is explained well and easy to follow, with interesting cases to demonstrate the use of geology in forensics. Near enough every area of forensic geology is covered, and there's a handy glossary at the back in case you get stuck on any of the more technical language. I couldn't have got through my university dissertation without it!

It is a crying shame this book is out of print.
Collins's book is an excellent introduction to biblical exegesis. Covers the basics -- text criticism, form criticism, etc. -- in a clear and readable style. Presents good examples, and also discusses the various codices, their late discovery compared to the KJV, and impact on biblical scholarship. I have read enough biblical criticism to recognize a classic when I see one. Collins is, as I recall, a priest, so he is not hostile to the subject, nor offensive to the believer. He just presents the nature and results of good scholarly criticism. If only someone would put this out in paperback! This book started me on a 5 year exploration. If you are lucky, it will be at a library near you.
