Wanted dead or alive
It was in the year 1820. A babygirl was born. Her name was Harriet Tubman. She was born in Maryland. She was born in a cabin. The book is about slaves that are negros. And that they all lived in Maryland because there slaves. All the slaves were mistreated. The slaves needed freedom.

The message is that you you should help other people that need your help. You should never give up on what you want. Like the slaves wanting to be free.

My opinion, it was cool because the slaves were given called diffrent names. When they were older they were given another name. My opinion is that it is not good to have slaves. It was a good book.

excellent
every child should have this book, every school, my daughter adores Harriet and this was helpful in showing her what led to the Civil War, the "whys" and the Underground Railroad. GREAT!

One of the Best Children's Books of All Time
I don't remember why I first picked this book up, but once I did, I couldn't put it down. I introduced the book to my teacher, and he became so interested in it that he read it to the class. The next time the class went to the school library, they borrowed all the copies of this book - 10 copies in all.

The author has a way of making the reader feel like he or she is in the story - if not as Harriet Tubman, then as someone close to her.

With all the junk being fed to kids nowadays, putting a book of this quality in front of them could pique their interest in reading.

Robin Hood
Robin Hood is one of the books I enjoyed reading. It has action, and adventure and a few historical facts. Robin Hood takes place a long time ago, probably in the middle ages. Robin Hood is the main character. He is handsome, brave and he has a bood heart and he steals from the rich and gives to the poor. Robin Hood has a little romance. For example when Robin says "I will win the archer competition and take the gold arrow and give it to the princess to be mine!" I would recommend this book to people who like action and adventure.

Unforgettable...
I have always been entranced by the heroic feats and daring adventures of this legendary outlaw. He braved prison and the rope to so cunningly outwit the Sherrif and defy the tyrant, Prince John, and brought protection and hope to the people of 12th century England. This book is a great intro to the tales of this timeless hero and I would recommend it to anyone with a passion for adventure. Books are the gateways to the universe. Take the journey...

Robin Hood
Robin Hood

Over the summer I read the book Robin Hood. It was about a boy named Robin Hood that went hunting with his father. The book was set in the mid-evil times. Robin Hood is a man who doesn't give up. He has black hair and brown eyes. Since Robin Hood and his father were peasants they weren't allowed to hunt the king's deer. When they were hunting the sheriff's men caught them. They took Robin Hood's father, and a man chased after Robin Hood. Robin Hood had a knife in his hand. He threw it back at him, and it killed him. Robin Hood was found by the Outcasts of Sherwood Forest. He met a girl named Marion. Marion is a careful girl who looks out for Robin Hood. She is an albino person with white skin, pink eyes, and blonde hair. If you want to see what happens to Robin Hood and what adventures he has get Robin Hood.

My favorite part is when Robin Hood was running from the Sheriff's Men because there was a lot of action. For example, when he kills one of the men, and he runs through the forest and gets away. I also like the part when he is at the archery contest. I liked it because I like to read about people shooting bow and arrows. It was cool when he won the gold arrow. The gold arrow has something to do at the end of the book. The person who I didn't like was the sheriff. I didn't like him because he was always trying to get Robin Hood. He wasn't very smart either.

In my opinion this book was very good. I liked it because there was a lot of action and adventure. Like when Robin Hood and his men try to get treated equally and start attacking trade caravans. Or when they sneak into the castle to get someone. I think that a person who likes action and adventure would like this book. I would also recommend this to someone who likes history because there is a lot of historical facts like Prince John and Richard the Lion Heart.

This book is funny
This book was a great book that I read. What made the book great was that it was mostly about sharks and I love sharks.

This book inspired my lifelong fascination with sharks.
I am an educator at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. I teach about sharks and the marine environment because I think education is the best conservation tactic we have. My lifelong fascination with sharks and the ocean all began with this book. Eugenie Clark was an inspiration. This book did a marvelous job of conveying Dr. Clark's enthusiam and awe for not just sharks but for science. This book changed my life.

I'm surprised this book received such a high rating!
I was very disappointed with this book. I bought it for my son, Nicholas, thinking he would be excited about a book with his name in it. The story is about a boy, who has very wealthy parents, who obviously care more about their money than anything else. When Nicholas is shipwrecked and lands, alone, on an island, he is happy to be away from his family. His parents worry at first and offer a reward to find him, but as time passes they spend the reward money on more jewels. How awful! I could just imagine what kind of message this would send to my sweet 5 year old son. A terrible book!

A fun fantasy based on values and wishes
Poor Nicholas is the child of boring well-moneyed parents. He hates the wealthy life and longs for real adventure. Well.. In this excellently-illustrated book he gets it, finding happiness and fun on a desert island.

The best thing about this book (aside from the great story and fun illustrations) is it's boldness. It dares to express the fantasies that all children have at times of escape from unhappiness into adventure, companionship, and a simpler life.

Stodgy billionaire parents will not like this book!

A GREAT Book!
One of my favorite books as a child, a creative story. Ann McGovern did a great job on this wonderful story. And to accent the wonderful writing, Tomie de Paola did wonderful illustrations.

Simplistic, but informative
I read this book to my child on the recomendation of a friend. The book proved interesting for both father and daughter alike. McGovern delves into both commonplace and idiosyncratic aspects of the world as it was a hundred years, providing an intelligent yet fun way for children to explore history.

VARIETY OF AMERICAN TALES
This 1960's anthology by Scholastic consists of ll short stories interspersed with poems and one non-fiction selection about international Christmas customs. The paperback format makes it portable and handy to slip into a book bag. All the stories are set in America and two are even autobiographical. My favorite is an excerpt from Little House on the Prairie, when Laura relates how the family friend, Mr. Edwards, met up with Santa in town and delivered some gifts to the Ingalls cabin for him. Best poem: The Golden Cobwebs, based on a Germanic legend. This is a short, easy read; it doesn't matter how often you are interrupted, for the yuletide season remains true and bright.
