Amazing book
Being a history student I may be a bit prejudiced, but I loved this book. I've read countless history books and many of them are incredibly dry. This book was engaging and interesting. I highly recommend it for a crash course in Colorado history.

A glimpse of the soul...
John McCarthy takes a voyage to a beautiful and magical place and brings back photos. Believe it or not, Ireland is actually on this earth and the author of this book has compiled some of the most mystical and enchanting parts into this wonderful book. After visiting his studio in Skaneateles, NY, I was riveted by the way he finds mystery and intrigue in the ordinary things and people we see around us. This book will always inspire me to look at things in a different light...kudos John.

As Good As It Gets
Gritty, funny, sexy and authentic. Damned-near "literary." Crime fiction doesn't get better than this. Read one of Westermann's books and you'll read them all.

Hilaire Belloc Edwardian Radical
Published in Paperback by Liberty Fund, Inc. (1979)

An Interesting Look at Hilaire Belloc.
This book examines the life and political thought of the Catholic intellectual, Hilaire Belloc. Belloc was a radical along with his friend G. K. Chesterton and a Catholic intellectual who lived in Edwardian England. His political thinking was an attempt to provide a sort of third way between capitalism and socialism, which he christened distributivism. Much of this book deals with the turns his thinking took from his beginnings as a radical to his subsequent turn which lead to the publication of his famous book _The Servile State_ and his eventual favoring of monarchy as opposed to the party system. Opposed to socialism, distributivism allows for individual ownership of property and the means of production. Much of Belloc's thinking is opposed to modernism and retains a medieval outlook which is heavily influenced by his Catholicism. Also, Belloc broke with the party system, finding both parties to be driven by the same group of interests, and opposed the new legislation which would eventually give rise to the modern welfare state (which he predicted in his _The Servile State_). Belloc's thinking offers a unique perspective for Catholic individuals who look for an alternative philosophy to that of modern day consumerism, capitalism, and socialism. Unfortunately, society is heading more in the direction of Belloc's servile state and away from the alternative that Belloc proposed. This book offers a fine introduction to his life and the development of his political thought.

John Dewey and the Challenge of Classroom Practice (The Practitioner Inquiry Series)

Fantastic! Dewey summary and an application thereof.
This book is tremendous--it provides an engaging entrance into the authors' dilemna (one all teachers have): How to teach usefully? Next is an excellent overview of Dewey's educational theories, and then a step-by-step description of the authors' successful application into a college classroom. I am so motivated now to try it myself. "They" said it could not be done, but "they" were wrong! My response: Aaaahaahhhh!

Johnny, I Wish I Knew Ye
The book "Johnny, We Hardly Knew Ye" by Kenneth O'Donnell and David Powers offers a wide variety of information about the life of John F. Kennedy. Focusing on his political life, with which they were deeply involved, the authors give a perspective on the life of President Kennedy that can't be matched by many others, for not many others knew him as well as they did. Unlike a normal, relatively boring biography, this collection of memories about their friend and president contains stories, personality, and detailed information as seen through the eyes of white house aides and friends. I highly recommend this book to learn more about Kennedy and to have a great time in the process.

I am fifteen years old. The reason that I read this book is because I hope one day to be involved in public life. I began this book knowing relatively nothing about Kennedy, except his assination and his line, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." This book gives me information to quench my thirst for knowledge as well as inspire and provide me with information that I will be able to use in the future, which I am only aboe to dream of now.

I love this book and feel that it is a shame that this is out of print. I feel that it is atrocious to think of a person not even attempting to find a copy of this book or not reading it if they have it. To conclude, I feel that this book is well worth the read, and so much more.

Excellent for First Time Coach
This is an excellent book for the first time coach. I was asked to coach a team after another coach bowed out after the first week of practice due to family crisis. I had not been involved in football for 20 years and was lost. This book saved me. Lots of good information, particularly on how to run a practice, useful drills and fundamentals. Does not include a lot of offensive or defensive strategy (See the "Coaching Youth Football" series by John T. Reed) but tremendously useful in helping a beginning coach get up and running.

Classical and modern [math analysis]
Classical and modern.
The "interpolation" part of the title refers to a classical result of G. Pick [1916], and R. Nevanlinna [1919]. They did it independently. Since the disk D (in one complex variable)is a model of a hyperbolic metric space, interpolation can't be done by just drawing straight lines. If two finite sets of points in D are given(same number of points in the two sets), the issue is to find an analytic function mapping D into itself, which at the same time matches up the points in one set with those in the other. The necessary and sufficient condition for the existence, and the solution, when it exists, is the classical issue. Since this, the framework has offered a wonderful testing ground for main trends in modern analysis, such as the theory of operators in Hilbert space, and for modern techniques in systems theory of engineering, and of scattering theory. The material is wonderfully presented, and the book serves as a lovely introduction to the subject. It is written by two authorities in the field, and helps grad students get entry into an exciting, modern, and very active research area.

A Cuban-American tale of the struggle for liberty.
Felix Rodriguez, a Cuban-born CIA Agent better known to many by his nom de guerre, Max Gomez, relates how the brutality and oppression of Castro's communist regime led his family to emigrate to the US and him to become one of the youngest participants in the Bay of Pigs landing. After successfully evading capture, he made his way back to the US where he became a US Army Officer and later a CIA Agent. In Bolivia, he trained the forces which captured Che Guevarra. As one of his last acts before the Bolivians executed him, Che gave his wristwatch to Rodriguez who wore it constantly thereafter. Despite their adherance to different systems, each recognized the other as a fellow warrior. He also writes of his years in Vietnam where he worked with William Buckley, the Agent who was later taken hostage in Lebanon and ultimately tortured to death. Finally, he relates his involvement in extending US support to Nicaraguan freedom fighters seeking to liberate their own country from the secret police and political prisons which proliferated under the Sandinista government. The book is very inspirational and should, if they would read it, open the eyes of those who live in a fool's paradise regarding the fate which awaits them should America ever lose its strength and resolve. It is also a tribute to the contribution, to that strength and resolve, made by those Cubans who came to our country and proved to be better Americans than many who were born here. Felix Rodriguez is an American hero, and this is his story. Read it.

Your College Experience: Strategies for Success
Your College Experience: Strategies for Success 4th ed by John N. Gardner and A. Jerome Jewler.
This book is excellent for a first semester college introduction to academic life. It deals with the issues students need to address for academic success such as critical thinking, time management, active learning, learning styles, reading, writing, listening and speaking, test taking, library use, computer use, academic resources, advisors, relationships, diversity, stress management, finances, alcohol, drugs, and sex. The book has six parts: 1. Strategies for success, 2. Plan ahead, 3. Take charge of learning, 4. Hone your skills, 5. Get connected, and 6. Know yourself. There are one to four chapters in each part totaling fourteen chapters, about one per week for a semester. There are exercises and guiding questions for a personal journal at the end of each chapter. A highlight is the interactivity provided by the CD-ROM packaged with each textbook. Each chapter has a self-assessment, has exercises from the book formatted to use on the computer and refers to textbook pages, has additional exercises not in the textbook, quizzes, crossword puzzles, and journal assignments that can be done on the computer. The CD-ROM links to many Internet sites for additional information and self-assessments. The book comes with a free four month subscription to InfoTrac, an online library. This book is good for the visual learner, the CD-ROM is particularly good for the kinesthetic learner, and the discussion exercises are good for the auditory learner. There are also supportive materials for faculty who adopt the book, and the CD-ROM is available on Blackboard and WebCT as online course management tools. .
