I'd like to read it with agrand pleasure

First off, while this isn't a "bad" book, it is by no means worth the full price (...). I'm a 50s collector and have about all the 50s books out there, and this was somewhat disappointing (fortunately I bought a cheaper used version).

Here's what I don't like about this book: it's selfishly feminine. 2/3 of the book deals in textiles and women's clothing exclusively, with only a few token pages on men's gabardine jackets and shirts.

Only the first 1/3 of the book deals with collectible items from the 50s and they are put together haphazardly, as if the book was thrown together or not done in conjunction with a designer. Collage pages of living rooms come across as tacky.

The prices mentioned in this book are unrealestic. A quick look on Ebay will show nobody is paying $750.00 for gabardine jackets and nobody is paying $50 or more for an individual drinking glass with a cool design. They're so inflated that is just silly -- almost as if the author were trying to get people unrealistically excited about the value of the items.

If you're female and into textiles, clothing, and poodles you might love this book (nothing wrong with that!). But for males or other folks into more into collectible items, or people into the more stylistic side of mid-century design, you'll be somewhat disappointed.

This instant-expert in Hawaiiana is evidently one of those people who move to Hawaii and think "it's much too good for the Hawaiians so I'll sell as much of it as I can". The photography is good but so many of the descriptions are soooooo wrong that I looked through it in slack-jawed amazement. Don't fall for this phoney-baloney aloha - the real Hawaii is not for sale, no matter how many books you write badly about it.

Sixty dollars spent for a new cover, some corrections in the index and a general increase in values is about all that is new in this edition. If you have the older one, don't bother! I felt cheated.

I came across this book in my hotel lounge on the North Shore of Kaui last week, and couldn't put it down. So I've come looking to buy it here. Although it's designed for collectors (which I am not), and places emphasis on the values of the artifacts pictured, it's also designed to chronicle the unique history of our exotic Hawaiian Islands. Beautifully laid out, it includes images of picture postcards, Hawaiin shirt designs, garment labels, wood carvings, and glorious Hawaiian quilts - all accompanied by just enough historical lore to make it a very smart picture book indeed!

I was disappointed with the book.I hoped the book would describe in details, different ways to create a complete and meaningful scroll saw picture from any scene or a picture. What to include or what not to include to get desired effect with minimum lines and cuts etc.Unfortunately, there is no such discussion or guidance where one can learn and apply to create your own pictures. The 'wolf pack' picture described in the book does explain how to scroll saw the picture.The book is more of a scroll saw pattern book.

This book is not about how to paint military miniatures.It is about how ONE modeller paints ONE resin figure(scale not even given.) Instead of lots of figuresand lots of insight, you just get numerous photos ofthe same damn figure from a slightly different cameraangle. Another Davidson/Schiffler ripoff, I fear
