I was moved to tears.
This book is a well written, and moving account of the final week of Jesus. You feel as though you are walking along with Him during that time. You can feel the pain, rejection, and triumph of the crucifixion and resurrection. This is a life changing book. I was literally moved to tears the first time that I read this book.

A continuation of the great Christian heritage of our nation
Once I read The Light and The Glory with my children, I knew that their education in American history would not be complete without this book. We were not disappointed. This book continues the narration of the great Christian heritage of the USA. As the settlers struggled to carve out a nation and our fledgling country grappled with issues between ourselves, our neighboring countries, and the Native American nation within our new boundaries, faith in God prevailed. The evidence for perseverence in faith is an inspiration to my children when they face daily struggles that are not as monumental. "Review" questions stimulate deep thought about the moral responsibility each one of us has to our country and our God. As with the first book, this is a great character building tool for our future citizens.

no problems with the book yet
In a very low-budget publication of the Unabomer's Manifesto (before Kazcynski's capture), which was available in anarchist bookstores and other bookstores, there was an extensive preface in which whoever the very 90's anarchist was who wrote it tried to distance his movement from the Freedom Club and the Unabomer. He suggested that if people were interested in such thought, they should instead read things like. . . and this book was one that was mentioned. I wrote myself a note to buy it, but I haven't gotten around to it, yet. Now, I've received an Amazon.com gift certificate from an online supply company for ordering 5 things in the month of March. That promotion was against my company's policy, apparently, and some supervisors and managers were concerned about it. They almost didn't let the online supplier give away the promotional gift certificates, but then they decided, well, they can't have the Starbuck's or the Century theaters certificates, but they can have the Amazon.com gift certificates, and they should try to buy books that will apply to their jobs. . . That's cool. I'm thiniking of buying this book. I gave it five stars, because I haven't found anything wrong with it yet, and I'm very optimistic about it. I hope you have a really great day. Love, Dave

If you have child/children, you got to have this!
I read this book in 1996 for my senior year Psychology project. I was vastly impressed by how humorous and straight to the point this book writes about handling your teenager and how you can cope with it by using humor. Till this very day, I can still remember how throughly I enjoy and learn from this book. Now that I have a child of my own, I strongly recommend this book as it helps me during the hard times, reminds me of the good times and to enjoy every minutes of it. A definitely good book for relaxing your nerve. Enjoy!

The Philosopher's Stone: A Quest for the Secret of Alchemy
Published in Paperback by Pan Macmillan (05 January, 2001)
Author: Peter Marshall
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

From confusion to clarity, chaos to harmony, desert to home.
From the moment I took this book into my hands I struggled to put it down. Not knowing anything about alchemy this book probably was the best introduction I could ask for. The book reads like a novel, taking the reader through all the paths of discovering more about alchemy. Loads of information is distilled into assessable paragraphs that contain the essence of each topic covered. Referenced material supporting the book is well documented in the back of the book enabling the serious reader to do further research on the topic. Starting from ancient history, the book is organised in a chronological order to end in its significance for contemporary times. Each paragraph reveals a bit more of this fascinating and mysterious subject. Interviews, visits to significant sites, papers, quotes and interpretation of symbolism ignite the readers curiosity. Excitement grows within the reader to the extend of an expectation that the philosopher's stone might jump somewhere from the pages. True to the basic principles the author does not try to provide an objective view of alchemy. The author gets so passionately involved with alchemy that one wonders if the author might be biased towards seeing alchemic symbolism even where they do not exist. But after closing the last page of the book, the author most definitely has planted within the readers subconscious a seed of hope. Hope that there is more beyond the aims of immortality and turning metals into gold , towards actual transmutation.

Prayers by a man who knows God!
This book of prayers has been one of my favorites since my discovery in 1975. It never grows old -- especially his prayer for all of us in a hurry -- who worship a Jesus who was NEVER in a hurry!

Excellent
I received this book as a holiday present a few years ago. Almost every recipe I have made from it has been superb! The muesli recipe is one of my husband's favorites, and the chickpea casserole with mango (chole) is one of my standard "potluck" party offerings. I highly recommend this! The photography is just wonderful as well.

awesome!!! have to read!!!
The book was awesome. it was an inspiration to any christian

Inspiring
A man called Peter is inspiring to say the least. It reminds us of the purpose that God has for all of our lives, and encourages us to seek him to use us to the fullest extent possible. He certainly did that with Peter Marshall.

This is the story of a young Scotsman and his journey to God
I first read A Man Called Peter by Catherine Marshal over 30 years ago. The biography is spiritually uplifting in that Peter Marshall truly did live God's word. He did not judge his fellow human beings, but he also did not compromise his own beliefs. In this way, he won many hearts over to Christ. An example from the book has him saying to his wife, "you say the blessing Catherine, the Lord knows I'm not thankful for leftover turkey." He was a man who was driven to live and preach God's word, yet he always had time for those that needed him. A story that will bring both laughter and tears to your eyes!

A Man Called Peter...
The story of Peter Marshall, his life and work, this record of unequaled love and faith has brought inspiration to thousands, "A glowingly Christian book."

One of the outstanding spiritual biographies. . .
. . .of the 20th century!

In this volume, lovingly penned by his wife, the late Catherine Marshall, the greater Christian world is introduced to one of the foremost Protestant ministers of the 20th century.

Peter Marshall was an immigrant from Scotland who, at a young age, felt the call of God on his life. From this call, he never wavered. This biography details his life, his struggles as a young pastor, and his eventual triumphs as the pastor of New York Avenune Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC and his appointment as Chaplain to the United States Senate.

Throughout we're given glimpses of Dr. Marshall's wit, his humor, his zest for life -- and his devotion to his God. His untimely death at 46 was a great loss to the Christian community.

As an additional bonus, several of Dr. Marshall's prayers and sermons can be found in this book as well.

A wonderful, inspirational read.

Five stars.

You Must Read This Book!
This book is wonderful! I'm in my teens and love to read everything from biographies to fiction books. A Man Called Peter is one of my favorites. Catherine Marshall's writing is so down to earth and personal you begin to feel as if you know this Man Called Peter as a friend. My little brother was read this book when he was six years old and a year later he still talks about "Enormous" Peter and Wee Peter, the father and son in the book. This book is one of his favorites, too.
