Misguided
As a textbook, the information is clear and well-laid out. The writers of the books should have stopped there; unfortunately, they instead insisted on threading the textbook with ongoing vignettes about 3 families of "diverse" backgrounds. As an earlier reader noted, it is multiculturism gone terribly wrone. It is HORRIBLY cliche - especially in the case of the token fictional African American family. This family, whose members include "Malcolm and Momma Jo Williams" and who say things like "you gon' be one sorry chile," represent stereotype and prejudice at its worst. Its surprising that DeHart and her colleagues didn't include fried chicken and watermelons in descriptions of the family diet.

Dry but informative.
This book follows hypothetical situations of 4 kids, the writer's aging them as the chapters go thru developmental ages. The box has very good information, but is hard to read and a bit dry. I did learn a lot from the book, which is the purpose and would recommend it to others.

Child Development Textbook of top calibur
I felt the need to submit a review on this textbook, since the other reviews I read on the text not only didn't do justice, but didn't seem to have much thought and consideration put into them. Perhaps the reviewers with poor opinions on the text were using the book for a course they didn't care much for, and were taking merely to fulfill a general education requirement. In classes where instructors know most of the students are taking the course merely to fulfill a blank slot on their transcript, a more elementary and less expensive text could be considered. So, I would call that poor thinking on the school or professor's part. *I* took the Child Development course which I did, not only to fulfill some credits I still needed, but because I'm very interested in the subject as well as a degree in child developmental psychology or other psychology related degree. I didn't find the text to be in the least bit dry. I thought it was extremely well thought out and put together. This was one of the very few textbooks I actually read cover to cover during my 5 years of college. I even read a few chapters at the end that our class didn't have time to cover, purely for interest's sake. I go back to this book again and again. I have let friends with young children borrow the book after having highlighted sections for them to read which I thought would be helpful in their everyday understanding of their own children. This book will stay on my shelf until it is completely outdated, and will be reviewed and looked at again often. It is invaluable to me.

A Good Starter Book
Although this book definitely sees multiplicity as a disorder, it has two advantages to it. First, it covers the entire dissociative spectrum, starting with the mind of the average singleton and moving up to that of a multiple, so even people that are mid-continuum may find something of use in this book. Secondly, it explains things very simply, so even a someone new to the concept of multiplicity should be able to understand it. That said, it's damn short. Not a lot to chew on here, but enough to get you started.

Brothers Beware: Games Black Women Play

Can't Be Serious
I read this book (pamphlet) in less than an hour simply because I couldn't believe some of the things the author says about black women. And to know that this was actually published is just as shocking. It's true that some of the things he mentions are behaviors of a few black women but to make it seem as though all of us are this way is totally disheartening. But I chose not to take this book seriously and I hope other readers will do the same. Don't believe the hype.

A Book Worth Its Weight In Gold!!!!
I'll never date a American born Black woman again. You got to have the best car, a lot of money in your pocket and some kind of great job. They would rather get with a drug dealer, than a brother that drives a cab. These sisters today don't want a Black man, they want an idol to worship. They must have a superman, best looking, rock hard body, just the right haircut and of course cash money--no matter how they earned it. Look at the men that they were looking for in the movie, 'Waiting to Exhale.' You're in deep shyt if you're a UPS driver or an Auto Mechanic or something like that. They have the attitude of what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine. They're not loyal, they're always on the make, looking for the next brother that's got something more than you. They don't want you to have any friends. As soon as you get married, all your friends have got to go. You can't reason with in a logical unemotional fashion. They're all about keeping up a materialistic image of success like they've made it while racking up credit card debt. It's the champagne taste on a Kool-aid budget mentality. This is the reason I stopped dating AMERICAN born Black women. Their ideal of what love is comes straight from BET's Video Soul. They can not separate reality from video fantasy. I NOW date Black women born and raised exclusively in Africa. Black women from the areas of Nigeria, Senegal, and Ethiopia are very respectful, dedicated to working WITH a man, more loving and are better suited for establishing marriage relationships with if you have traditional family values. I thank God for this Book! I can't wait for the movie! Oh yea, Brothers if you are looking for a good Black Woman from the regions of Africa, "I'VE GOT THE HOOK UP!'

This book will save you time and money . . . .
Too many black men are blind-sided in their relationships with black women because they don't understand what they are capable of. This book confirmed some of what I only suspected and revealed other things that have made me more alert. He challenges sisters to get their act together. It's about time.

Practical Jaguar Ownership
It may be a good book if you're dealing with VERY old jaguars, but it's almost useless if you have a Jaguar of less than 30 years old. It contains good advice regarding maintenance of leather and wood interiors. It did not said too much about the XJ-S, a model that definetly will be a classic and is a wonderful piece of machine.

Is not a book for mechanics
This book focused on older jaguar models from 1940 to 1975. It is mainly a collection of personal stories of the author and his cars. It talks a little about interior restoration and jaguar automobilia for the collector enthusiast. However, it lacks any value regarding mechanical matters such as engine, brakes or general maintenance details.
