The area of Mexico covered by Mr. Burton's book is filled with historical, cultural and geographical/geological riches. The problem for me as a resident of this area has been where to find them, and where to learn about them, once you have heard about them. This book has been a god-send as it has allowed us to learn and explore our "neighbourhood" with confidence and always rewarding experiences. If you are interested in more than beach, babes, and beer, then this is a wonderful book to use, or just to read, learn and dream. It is truly a "Mexico" book.

He has collected and updated the best of his writings over the years into a what is a unique guidebook to western Mexico. Based on his frequent travels and intimate knowledge of the region, Tony offers his special insights into this scenic and culturally rich area of lakes and mountains, colonial towns and Indian villages. From San Blas on the Pacific coast to the celebrated Monarch butterfly refuge in the high Sierra of Michoacan, the author takes us to all of his favorite places along the less traveled roads of the region, revealing their history, ecology and archaeology, as well as their arts, crafts and folklore. I found the book to be especially valuable for his keen observations on, and enthusiasm for the varied natural wonders of western Mexico. Charmingly illustrated by artist Mark Eager, Tony's guide is easy on the eye, It is well organized, packed with suggestions for the traveler, with suggested itineraries and detailed maps. A full bibliography and index is also appended.

Kites for Kids presents all the kite related technical terms with easy to understand explanations. There are clearly labeled diagrams both for showing the parts of a kite and explaining the directions. The fifth chapter explains the secret of flight, how to launch and retrieve a kite, how to deal with common problems, and how to fly kites safely. All these things were helpful when working on a kite project with a group of boys. Kites for Kids lists the materials you will need and has ideas for where to find them--a great time saver. There are directions for 13 kites from the classic diamond kite to space cruisers to sky monsters. Each kite begins with a brief introduction about the history or flying abilities. Amazing moments in kite history are scattered throughout the book. If you're new to kite building, or trying to build kites with kids, this book is a great guide.

I am an internist. During my residency years, I diecovered this book. It made me a distinguished resident in nephrology in a remarkably short time. Nephrology is the most complicated branch of internal medicine but this book has made it unbelievebly easy, meaningful and attractive. It is specialy written for those who want to learn complex issues as soon as possible.

There is a lot of activities packed into these pages, and you can pretty much pick and choose how much of it you want to do. There are reproducibles in the teachers manuals of additional activities. I'm thinking of using it again next year with all the activities, and I should be able to turn it into our full Language Arts program. One word of warning, DON'T try to use this without the teachers manual, you will be LOST! I find the teacher's manual invaluable!

Basically an autobiography, we hear about the demons that drive his art from "spotty" narratives to ethreal abstractions from the master himself. We're told of life in Burbank, triple monster features, employment under a big fuzzy smiley rodent, the befriending of an idol, and then taken through a journey of his features.

Pee Wee to Sleepy if you get the revised edition. Also the lowdown on his earliest creations: a family dog, a do-it yourself dog, and the hardly seen classic short Vincent. Got a bit weepy in the Scissorhand section when he mentions working with his mentor in last days. Reminiscent of the relationship between Ed Wood and Bela.

This book is the definitive book so far on Tim's life and career in that he takes you by his clamy hand and leads you through his gallery of mutated yet mistaken hall of horrors. A bit incoherent in spots makes you cherrish the man and his wizardry even more.

It really is a must for his fans or for anyone with the slightest inclination that they might want to try their hands at directing. So grab a pair of scissors, strap on your bat mask, and wind up the B-film projector; cause "Tim Burton ..this is your life!!"

i've always been a big fan of Tim Burton's films and this book fulfills any questions i might've had about this unique filmmaker. like all of the books of this series, it is an exhaustive examination of Burton's life and his films starting from his childhood in Burbank all the way up to SLEEPY HOLLOW. the interviews are very informative and candid (esp. his comments on the aborted SUPERMAN film). Burton isn't known for being the most chatty filmmaker in the world but the interviewer really gets him to open up. if you love Burton's films this book is essential. i'd rank it right up there with the also fantastic Lynch On Lynch and Gilliam On Gilliam books. now, when is Faber & Faber going to do one on the Coens?

A very good book about the life and movies of Tim Burton. It is filled with many of his truly wonderful drawings. This is definetely the best book about Tim Burton yet! I hope it will be updated to include Mars Atacks( which I thought was good!) and Sleepy Hollow(the best tim burton movie yet!)

Mack is somewhat the bad boy of Jesus and Early Christian scholarship. Most Christians I know hate him. That is mainly because they haven't read his books. This book has a cover designed to irritate fundementalists. First it calls Christianity a Myth which is the correct word for any such tradition (just because it's a myth doesn't assume that it was made up). It also has a picture of a lion on the front which makes people believe that Mack is hostile towards the Christian myth. Not at all, in fact, the lion is from a seventh century Mosaic that depicts the four gospel writers and animals they represent, Luke is a person, Matthew I believe is an Ox, John is an eagle, and Mark is a Lion. Simple as that. Those who undertake to crack the cover and read this book will find it to be good scholarship and an exciting journey into the world of Mark. It is well informed and comes from one of New Testament scholarships most proific writers. Although Mack is now retired I sincerely hope he will continue writing, I will certainly continue reading his work.

I completely disagree with Mack's conclusion that Christianity was 'made up' later. That said, his meticulous footnoting made a wonderful resource that I still look to for information and his research is thorough and engaging. His conclusion, relating a concoted Christianity to the evils of Reaganomics, is just plain wacky.

I must admit, the exposition can get a little hairy at (very few) spots, but the problems are good, and it has served me well as a reference (for certain limited topics). Great introduction.

I'm a first-year Ph.D. student, taking a graduate-level number theory course, and I still use this book from my undergrad years as a reference. Just about any basic number theory topic you're looking for is in here. I can't recommend it highly enough!

This book is the best introduction to number theory that I have found.

I only have single maths A Level, but found this book extremely easy to get into. It starts out with gcd lcm stuff, then introduces modular arithmetic and chinese remainder theorem; it does some other things as well (I forget), and then goes on to fermat's little theorem and wilson's theorem...then does lots of other things like 'arithmetic functions' and continued fractions, quadratic residues...which I haven't got to yet. Certainly, it doesn't look as though it's going t get any more difficult in this book, and the excersises are realistic (if a little too simple)

Anyone who cannot work through this book should not be studying maths. The book surely covers most first year degree courses.

I should also say that there are about 14 chpters in the book, even though I have only described the first 7 or so; the book also gives a history of maths, with short passages about famous mathmos like Gauss, Euclid, diaphantus. About 300 pages in total, loads of examples, plenty of spaces for rough working (big margins). What more can I say? Buy it.

I liked this book overall, and it was interesting to see the changes and deletions between te script and the finished film. The big problem I had was the omission of the ending scene in the screenplay, it just seems like a cop out to protect a secret that was already out at the time of the book's release A WEEK AFTER THE MOVIE CAME OUT. I wanted this book in hardback but for somereason it never came available, and I ended up settling for the paperback version. I have a feeling the Cinefex magazine covering Planet of the Apes will be much more informative for a lot less money.

The copy of this book I have does NOT have the surprise ending that is in the film. I won't spoil the ending, but neither will this screenplay....

This is a beautifull book about the 2001 version of Planet of the Apes directed by Tim Burton.

It is varied, with lots articles on many aspects of the film and richly illustrated througout with incredible film and "behind the camera" images. Additionally you will find the complete screenplay with related photos. All those elements combined make it an excpetional piece of film memorabilia.

Overall, this book does a great service to a movie that continues the great myth of "Planet of the Apes".

My 18 month-old LOVES this book. The rhyming is great and the rythm makes almost like a song when you read it. There are also some surprises if you're paying attention. Look for the Ladybug on every page!
