This comprehensive directory is an excellent source for those looking to enter the field of alternative or complementary medicine. In a market with such tremendous growth and clutter, there is a viable need for a resource such as this to sort through what is available nationally. The book includes: a reader-friendly section defining all terms and fields associated with the industry, how to choose a program, what programs are available sorted by location, the top schools and programs, accrediation information, professional organizations, and self-study resources. The only piece missing was an updated version. Hence, that is on its way to being published in September of 2000. After months of research, this is by far the best directory I have encountered.

Planning Your Career in Alternative Medicine is a valuable resource and well worth browsing. Lyons's purpose in writing this book is to meet the need for a directory of alternative medicine educational programs. The different fields of alternative medicine are well represented in the directory, from naturopathy and oriental medicine to massage and movement therapies, as well many other fields. The book is intended for both serious students and interested consumers. The first part of the book contains brief introductory essays about the different fields of alternative medicine. The second and main part of the book is the directory of schools and programs in alternative medicine arranged by state and then by field. The directory contains over 1,000 listings that were selected based on accreditation and other criteria for each field. Each entry covers accreditation, program description, admission requirements, and tuition and fees. The author provides helpful aids in using the directory, such as "Listing of Programs by Field" that allows the reader to find programs quickly. Appendices include "Accrediting Agencies and Councils on Education," "Licensing and Certification, Professional Associations and Organizations," "Self-Study Resources," and "Conventional Medical Schools Offering Courses in Alternative Medicine." The "Self-Study Resources" covers correspondence study.

Compared to the other education directory, Directory of Schools for Alternative and Complementary Health Care, edited by Karen Rappaport, this resource is more narrative and provides more details about the curriculum. However, it lacks statistics about class size, enrollment, and staff which Rappaport includes. It complements Rappaport's directory nicely, and I recommend using both directories together.

this book wasn't even worthy enough for me to wipe my butt with. i regret stealing this book it was a waste of my time this book is what made me give up reading. this book made me hate trees.

This little book is an excellent survey of the most common plants in the redwood region. Definitely a wonderful introduction for beginning students of these plants. The book helps to identify these organisms at the same time as it adds some interesting information about each plant. Highly recommended. It appears as it now is out of print which is a pity. Please bring it back!

This book has nicely reproduced pictures, classification, and very readable and informative text on many of the trees and flowers of the northern coast of California. The text includes description, natural history, and special notes regarding native American uses of plants, edibility, or cautions regarding poisonous plants. Very nicely done!
