This book is a real page turner. The book is very much like a Patricia Cornwell novel. Sylvia Strange is a criminal psychologist trying to find out who is behind a string of murders that have been happening to supposed rapists etc., who have been cleared of their crime. Buy this book and you won't be able to put it down.

This is a great book that exposes kids to all kinds of bats. It teaches good facts too. Many myths are dispelled when you read about the bats in this book.

This short story collection centers on the impact of separations and divorce on the participants including extended family members. However, the twenty tales share a dark look at IRRECONCILABLE DIFFERENCES as the audience is treated to situations that do not end as peacefully as our current legal system expects.

Lia Matera has put together a remarkable anthology that has several excellent stories, some very good tales, and no poor entry. The cross-genre contributors are a modern day who's who with such noted authors like Oates, Cross, Deaver, Lutz, Buchanan, and Muller, etc. None of the writers are lightweights as they all hold their own with the heavyweights. Anyone who enjoyed the Battle of the Roses will fully relish each tale that paints a very dismal look at broken relationships.

Sarah Lovett has really done her homework. It's easy to see an incredible amount of research went into creating this novel. Lovett's talent for writing vivid action scenes put that research to good use.

The fourth outing for Dr. Sylvia Strange is the best one yet. Although the plot of "Dantes' Inferno" might seem familiar, there is enough that is new to keep the reader interested. John Dantes is a particularly interesting villain, both for his brilliance and his passivity. We're never quite sure what he's up to, if anything. Watching him match wits with Sylvia makes for excellent reading.

Unlike most thrillers, this is an intelligent book, interweaving an above-average plot with an allegorical depiction of Los Angeles as Dante's (note the similarity to Dantes) nine-circled Hell. Throw in the psychological study of "Dantes' Inferno's" twisted bad guys and it's clear that author Lovett is one smart lady. I look forward to returning to this series in the future.

This is a powerful, fast-paced story. I especially enjoyed the literary allusions so thoughtfully and accessibly woven into the novel. Ms. Lovett's use of the Inferno's geography of hell is fascinating and, added to the things we experience with her always-deep characters, makes complex moods and a terrific foreboding that continually draws in the reader. When I finished the book I felt like I knew these people (including the villains) and had been through a lot with them.

I agree. If you like Kay Scarpetta you will like Sylvia. I really enjoyed this wonderful book.

In New Mexico, a child driving a Honda crashes the car into a train. Miraculously the girl lives, but is unable to, or perhaps refuses to, explain who she is or why she was driving the car. The frustrated Santa Fe police assign forensic psychiatrist Sylvia Strange to learn what she can from the nameless child. Sylvia quickly finds out the hard way that the child is not mute when the little girl screams as she throws a punch at the doctor. Eventually, Sylvia learns that her very frightened patient's name is Serena.

As Sylvia gains the trust of the child, she realizes that the lass is scared that a demon is after her. Sylvia understands that Renzo Santos, a blood drinking hit man wants to take the kid out. It is up to Sylvia to help the child with her inner demons and her external devils if Serena is ever going to return to the land of the living and and become a healthy, well adjusted child.

The highly regarded Sarah Lovett (just read DANGEROUS ATTACHMENTS and ACQUIRED MOTIVES to realize the incredible depth and brilliance this author posesses) has written a brilliant Sylvia Strange mystery. A DESPERATE SILENCE is compelling and clever as a non-supernatural horror theme is weaved into the story line without taking away from the horror, dread, and ultimately fear associated with the human blood sucker. Adding to the delight of this tale is the way Sylvia (and ultimately the audience) gains some insight intoto her own childhood and parentage. Thisenables readers to understand the doctor's motives better. This book is a great addition to one of the most notable series in the psychological who-done-it sub-genre.

I discovered Sarah Lovett in a local bookstore and thought I might try her out! BIG MISTAKE! Boring plot, bad characters, and it could have been a lot shorter! Hopefully her next books are better!

I have never read a book written by Sarah Lovett before this one. I enjoyed it so much that I am buying her other books as well.

I had never heard of this author before, and came across "Dangerous Attachments" in a used book store. The book will keep you reading non-stop until the very end. Sarah Lovett ranks at the very top of the list of super writers, such as James Patterson and Jonathan Kellerman. If you like serial murders, thrown in with a good liberal dose of criminal psychology, and an "on the edge of your seat" ending, you will love this book. Having studied criminal psychology, there was one particular segment of the book that seemed out of character. After Merry Maids cleaned up Sylvia's house it mentions that the service left the keys to the new door lock in the mailbox. If one was being stalked and your house was broken into, it is highly unlikely, anyone with any smarts at all would have a service leave "your new keys" in the mailbox when someone could be watching your home and all activity going on. Overall, it was still a great book.

This author seems to be on a downward trend. I have read all the books in this series. The first ones were enjoyable. The last one before this was disappointing. This is a dud. The story does not hang together. The plot is inadequate, parts of it are far fetched, and the ending does not work. She neglects the personal relationships which were interesting in the earlier books.

Dr. Sylvia Strange is about to marry the love of her life, Matt England, and she should be in a state of prenuptial bliss. Instead, Sylvia is goaded into taking one last case before her wedding. "Dark Alchemy" is the story of a serial killer who uses sophisticated neurotoxins to murder fellow scientists. The FBI suspects Dr. Christine Palmer, the world's foremost expert on these deadly poisons. Since all the evidence against Dr. Palmer is circumstantial, the authorities need more information to move the investigation forward.

Counterterrorism expert Edmond Sweetheart has been asked by the FBI to step in, and he in turn recruits Dr. Strange to help him construct a psychological profile of the killer. Sylvia would prefer to immerse herself in her wedding plans, but the case interests her and she decides to lend her expertise to the investigation.

The book starts out promisingly. Lovett piques the reader's interest with her arcane information on neurotoxins and their deadly effects. Dr. Palmer is an intriguing character. She is beautiful, brilliant and egotistical, but is she also a killer? To make matters more complicated, Sylvia's personal problems keep distracting her. Although she and Matt truly love one another, they still have some unresolved issues that may disrupt their wedding plans.

Unfortunately, after a strong opening, "Dark Alchemy" unravels in the second half of the book. Various suspects are dangled before the reader, and the plot becomes more and more illogical as the book progresses. The ending is rushed and the conclusion is unsatisfying. Had Lovett taken the time to develop her plot with more care, "Dark Alchemy" would have been a much better novel.

But she also takes on this case to figure out how this beautiful, confident, world-renowned toxicologist is using neurotoxins to kill off others and how she has gotten away with it - until now.

Sylvia is on a mission to crack this case, get the evidence needed and get back to her wedding plans when another death occurs. She joins forces with counter-terrorism expert Edmond Sweetheart and they begin to link evidence together. But is Edmond on her side or is he withholding the evidence that could crack this case wide open for them?

Lovett uses a lot of forensic and scientific lingo heavily throughout the book. But the action page after page will still hold the readers attention till the very end with it's various plot twists.

This tale of the crazy serial poisoner, with a strong, heroic Dr. Strange hot on her tail, is a nail-biting page turner.

This book is a lot of facts and figures, with some decent photos. What can you say about a supposedly factual book that says hurricane season runs from August through October? If something that's common knowledge is wrong, makes you wonder how much of the rest of the book is incorrect. Some of the information seemed a little off-kilter to me as I was reading it, then when I got to the hurricane facts I gave up on it.
