The Bible and the Mass: Understanding the Scriptural Basis of the Liturgy

A Great Book That Provides A Biblical Basis on the Mass!
Father Stravinskas wrote very well this book for all Catholics and especially non-Catholics on the biblical basis of the holy sacrifice of the Mass. Gone were the days where people would say that the Mass is a medieval superstition inspired by the devil --- this book will surely shock you and may offend you --- because you will see that the Mass is strictly Scriptural and biblically inspired! From the Sign of the Cross down to the Final Blessing, this book aims to establish where in the bible do we find support for these liturgical elements. I invite all our non-Catholic brothers to read this book and you will see that the Mass is not a diabolical invention but rather a Scriptural banquet of God, the remembrance of the Lord Jesus' Supper who commanded us to do this in His memory. This book convinced me that the Mass is indeed Scriptural, and the place where the Scriptures should be properly read and proclaimed is in the Mass! I highly recommend this! (CAUTION: Not suitable for people with closed minds and deaf ears to the truth of the bible !)

Amazing following in the true Fantasy genre!
The Demon Lord continues the story of a brave young warrior, named Aldric who - after the death and extermination of his family - falls in with the most renowned wizard alive in his world.

After rigorous training by the wizard - who also happends to be a blade master of unparalelled skill - stalks out into the world to not only avenge his fathers death, but also to make a name for himself.

I laughed, I cried, I even fell in love. I enjoyed Demon Lord immensely, and I still hope to read its equal.

Peter Morwood's "The Dragon Lord"
Third of four books comprising the history of young Alban Clan Lord Aldric Talvalin, "The Dragon Lord" explores the depths of betrayal, love and friendship. Talvalin is swept into the political intrigue of a neighboring and unfriendly country at the behest of his king and his foster father, a mysterious wizard with secrets of his own.

The Talvalin books are a compelling mixture of differing cultures, both European and Asian in nature. Swordplay, wizardy and honor all play vital roles as the story unfolds. Excellent depictions of sword-work and the well-written exploration of the inner thoughts of a young man bent on an almost suicidal quest to avenge the death of his family make the Talvalin books hard to put down.

A review of the unabridged tape voice is Ian Carmichael
Hangman's Holiday" Is part of the Lord Peter Wimsey Mysteries Series. There are several mysteries. Some take half a tape others take nearly two tapes. I will not pull them apart as the fun is listening to them unfold. To add to the ambience, the narrator is Ian Carmichael who played Lord Peter Wimsey. He changes his voice for the different people and you can tell the difference. There is a statement that tells you when the tape side ends.

With the novels containing Harriet Vane [Strong Poison ISBN: 0061043508], the emphasis is on English life with a mystery added. This book is a series of mysteries with a little 20's and 30's England added. It may be my perception but the mysteries get better and more intriguing as the next one appears. Then it is over.

Great!
This has lots of fun stories, and Ian Carmichael's characterization is just outstanding. Not only does Lord Peter Wimsey appear, but I was pleasantly surprised by some stories that have another enjoyable amateur detective, Mr. Montague Egg.

Lord Haw Haw: The English Voice of Nazi Germany
Published in Hardcover by Scarecrow Press (2003)
Author: Peter Martland
Amazon base price: $34.95
Average review score:

Lor d Haw Haw
In Lord Haw-Haw, Dr Peter Martland, an accomplished historian of the modern period, packs in a swift, erudite and highly engaging account of the most reviled of wartime turncoats. Piecing together the William Joyce story from Public Record office archives an absorbing melange is created of a man drawn to violence, spirited to treason, and gifted with a perverse talent behind the radio microphone.

Fascinatingly, Martland spends a time describing the problems the British faced in bringing Joyce to the gallows for treason after the war. Did a born American-born man owe allegiance to the Crown in the first place? The tortured legal arguments on whether an alien could owe the King a loyal duty and the weight the security services placed on these worries is brought to the fore in Martland's writings. Without giving the game away, the shear effort a bankrupt British state made in gathering the necessary evidence in order to swat this ultimately pathetic figure strikes the reader.

And of Joyce's early life, the roots of Joyce's fascism beam through. Intellectually formidable, attracted by Mosley's shameless rhetoric, Joyce saw in Nazism an apt refuge for his anti-Semitic beliefs, and the institutionalization of the pub violence that permeated his life. Shunted from New York, to Ireland, to England, this is the tale of a wanderer whose Road to Damascus became a short stroll to a Berlin radio studio.

There are glimpses into the anxiety of the British government during the first couple of years of Joyce's broadcasts. To be sure, many saw him, with that odd, clipped, parvenu accent, as more of a comic than a Josef Goebbels, but nonetheless this was a radioman heard widely over the whole of England ; akin to today, any media coverage was good media coverage.

As the Nazi state crumbled, the sad last months of Joyce's employment in Germany are recorded in detail by Martland. Ever the Hitler believer, a rambling, drunken fool, gabbing into the microphone was what the end of the Reich did to Joyce. I like this part of the narrative, Joyce and precocious wife running from radio studio to radio studio always the transmitting sheep for the fast decaying Germany.

This new series from the National Archives, as the dusty Public Record Office has been rechristened, is formidable in that each title has half a book full of documents from the actual files kept. In Joyce's case the lame points of appeal in his trial for treason are printed ; so too is a spurious note by
some soldiers in liberated Europe on how Joyce accidentally happened to be shot when fleeing after the war.

Odious characters always excite. More so when they are dangerously formidable speakers, even if their crackpot ideas are laughable. More so when as intellectuals they leave democratic nations to find a hoped for comfort in the Berlin of 1939. I left this book with a fecund pity for William Joyce, Lord Haw-Haw. The Irish immigrant attempting to be a patrician ; the self-taught masterly student attracted by the Mosley din ; the sneering womanizer charming in person, plain nasty in the airwaves.

Lord Haw-Haw is fantastic reading for those with an interest in betrayers, in espionage, and for those who want a distilled, non-pretentious, crystallized narrative of this complex figure. Refreshing in its clear style, accommodating to the plain curious, as I was, Martland in this project has done a fine job.

Birdsong
One of, if not the finest piece of literature ive ever read on the subject. This beautifully written book set me on an almost unquenchable search for more history on the horrors of ''''''the great war". One surely feels the suffocation of the tunnels and the horrors of the trenches and battlefields. The characterizations were so well done that I felt almost at one with them. I loved this book.
