A Great Book for Relationships Neophytes and Veterans
I highly recommend this book for ANYONE considering getting into a relationship, already in a relationship or recovering from a failed relationship. Not only does it comprehensively explore issues and problems in relationships, it clearly defines what exactly "love" is and what it truly means to love someone; for it is more than an emotion, it is consistency, deed and action. This book not only helps you learn about your own personality and character flaws, it shows you how to recognize them in others and how to transform your own personal shortcomings into proactive, productive approaches internally and within the context of a healthy relationship. There is such a thing as "false love." Where do you stand?

Breaks False Illusions many have about Relationships
Great material, should be taught in the Public School systems accross America. They breakdown the many Illusions held by men and women about Relationships and introduce ways to create REAL lasting Monogamous healthy Love.

The Taiwan Intelegence Service's Murder of Henry Liu
This is the thoroughly documented story of the 1984 murder of Henry Liu at his Daly City, CA, home, by the Taiwan intelligence service. The book contains impressive documentation of KMT intelligence operations in the USA, especially in California. For those interested in San Francisco's Chinatown, the book has lots of information about the long struggle between the pro-KMT and pro-PRC partisans. The KMT had all the advantages, including basic criminal immuninity thanks to the cooperation of the FBI. They blew it though, when they overreached by murdering the journalist Henry Liu for his pro China views. The PRC, rightly, is ascendent now.

Success as many of us know it is very illusionary and false.
This book is a wake up call for many Americans in this society. I find it very appalling to know that many of us are drastically killing ourselves over money and materialistic things. It's sad that we place this "stuff" above the human life of others as well as ourselves. Plus given the fact that ignorance breeds ignorance, it's a vicious cycle from generation to generation. Hopefully, many will capture the reality from books such as this one that our American society will rise from its slumber.

Travels of Lao Can (Translated from Chinese)

Interesting & insightful look at late Qing dynasty China!
'The Travels of Lao Can' or 'Lao Can Youji' was written by Liu E (1857-1909) between 1904-07 during the late Qing era. This current edition was published by Chinese Literature (Panda Books, Beijing) in 1983, and was translated by Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang. This partly autobiographical and allegorical work presents numerous colorful insights into the society of the closing years of the Manchu or late Qing dynasty China. This was a society where corruption among Chinese officials was rampant. During his travels, Liu E or Lao Can writes about the injustice and evils that these officials bring upon the people, and also presents his keen observations of Chinese society in general. This is an excellent book for anyone who is interested in China or Chinese literature. The only gripe that I have with this edition is its poor translation, and also the omission of several chapters from the original Chinese text.

Interesting And Disappointing
When I received this book I was really eager to read it. The whole storyline appealed to me and I was convinced, based on the first few chapters, that I would enjoy it. I'm not sure when I changed my mind. Maybe it was after reading countless details about historical and political China when I just wanted to know more about the main characters. Sometimes I felt as if the author couldn't decide if she wanted to write a history book or a love story. While her descriptions of the surrounding enviroments within the book were very colorful and evocative, the presentation of historical events taking place was a bit on the boring side. I found myself fighting the urge to just skip over those parts. Also, the ending (which I won't give away) sort of left me feeling cheated. I suppose I could've overlooked all of those things except for one thing. The fact is, the main character just isn't very interesting or likeable. To me, that's a deal-breaker.

A Chinese/American epic of grand and gripping proportions.
Cloud Mountain by Aimee E. Liu is a wonderful book. Inspired by her own Grandparents story, this book is impossible to put down. It is romance of the first order, as well as vivid history, both Chinese and American during the turbulent times from the San Francisco earthquake to the Chinese Revolution. Miss Liu brings these times to life in ways that I have never read before. This book explores the relationship between an American woman (who, being part Native American is considered mongrel in her own country) and an upperclass Chinese scholar and revolutionist. Cloud Mountain is moving, well researched, and never dry. I couldn't put it down. Any Amy Tan and Memoir of a Geisha fans out there should run for this book. A truly sweeping, beautifully written novel.

3 hankies - you'll love this!!!
I bought this cassette because I love to "read" when I drive and I love to listen to B.D. Wong. He has the ability to take you deep into the story and his voices are so perfect to each character. This is a beautiful story, so full of love and yet so sad. You feel the pain Hope feels as she and Paul struggle against American prejudice and then as the Chinese cultural revolution threatens to tear them apart again. I loved the cassette so much I am now reading the book in non-abridged. It's a real tear jerker, yet it's so satisfying. What a wonderful love story!

Valuable introduction and future resource to Human Factors,
Informative presentation of basic Human Factors principles from a psychology perspective. Touches on Cognition, Perception, and the Design Process. The last of which is extremely valuable for any UI design. Handy reference tool.

Good introduction to Human Factors Engineering
Wickens et al. really fill the gap between system engineering and cognitive psychology. I have found quite a few of books of this kind.
The book contains good examples and references for workplace design, environmental conditions and several other applications that make it useful for a course textbook or professional's desk reference.
One word of caution (mea culpa as well): the authors did not address in this version the engineering tradition of poor, monotonous writing.

Extraordinary!
Wickens is a true pioneer in the field of human factors who fills the gap between (system) engineering and cognitive psychology with great diligence and competence. This book, "An Introduction to Human Factors Engineering", is another excellent reference tool made for engineers to integrate psychologic research results in their creations; I read it in combination with Wickens' "Engineering Psychology and Human Performance", which concentrates rather on the psychological perspective of human factors than on practical design advices. Both books have considerable overlappings, and are similar to each other, even in the structure of the chapters; nevertheless, I highly recommend them both. I have not (yet) found better literature for this field.

Not very enlightening!
This book is very slow going and I put it down after 10 pages.

Common sense that's not so common
A good straightforward corrective to the gooey, new agey codependency stuff. Great if you want to take responsibility and quit your bad habits and choices without spending the rest of your life on your knees. Remember will power, at last it's coming back in style.Summed up,quit the instant gratification bs., learn some saleable skills, learn to relate to people honestly and responsibly and choose reasonable goals.A good one to read and reread until you (I) get it.

A look into the Sung Dynasty
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in classical Chinese culture. This book gives an interesting insight into the life of a Sung Dynasty official. Various aspects of life are covered in this collection of documents. As much as I enjoyed the insight into this time and place, I would not recommend this book to someone looking for just light reading. Those interested in classical Chinese books might also look towards fiction such as The Water Margin, Dream of a Red Chamber, Monkey...
