As any historian will agree, to write a "brief history of the Western world" is a daunting task, even for a stable of collaborators. Amazing, then, that Prof's Greer and Lewis display expertise even regarding the most mundane of subjects. Granted, from time to time, their focus on western Europe leads them to use words such as "church," "Christian," and "Europe" as if the west were all (as when they discuss the conflict between the Enlightenment view of human perfectability and the dogma of "the Church" by which they mean that of the Roman Catholic/Protestant offshoot of Christianity's main, Greek-speaking trunk), but it's a swell text despite such predictable failings. The prose is good, the p.c. trendiness is limited (Maya Angelou the only contemporary author on their timeline, e.g.), and the bases are covered.

This book is my all time favorite book! In the beginning it's a little hard to follow, but keep reading and you're hooked! I love how the childern are the stars of the book. The way Bruno talks is soo cute! This book touches on very natural things, but it presents them in a wonderfully different view. It has a feel to it that no other book has. The plot is there, but it's very vague so that the book is very relaxed and open-minded. If you like Sylvie and Bruno, Sylvie and Bruno Concluded is a must! My favorite part of the book is how wonderfully it concludes and leaves you perfectly content, yet a little bit of wonder still lingers. From all angles, this book is one of a kind!

He did, and in doing so he assembled the first research laboratory and gathered around him a collection of great minds -- a rich assortment of men with varying talents.

This little book is brilliant. I suffer from severe depression and although I am also content in Christ and am joy-ful, there are times when all I can do is groan and BE a prayer. And yes, of course you can be suffering depression as an illness and be full of joy!
This book starts with several chapters which are amongst the most sensible I have some across to do with depression. The chapters dealing with the use of the Psalms are very practical.
Psalm 13 was called by a friend of mine, 'The Depressives' Psalm.' Using this psalm in the book was of great comfort to me, for this friend misunderstands me and has turned away from me causing enormous grief.This grief has impacted on my depression greatly. Yet, as this book testifies, there is always hope in Christ, even in the deepest despair.I know there will be total reconciliation one day.
Thomas Lewis fully understands depression, first hand.

Obviously you enjoy architecture or you wouldn't be thinking of reading a review of this book. Think no further, buy the book. Frank Furness has been overlooked way too long and this book shows why in pictures and a nice overview of text why this mans work, and what is left of it, should be escalated to the heights of the finest.

To cite Meriwether Lewis as Editor of this and other volumes of this University of Nebraska Press edition, edited by Moulton, is an injustice to Moulton. Lewis' efforts never got beyond a pros- pectus. Further, to list Clark as merely a con- tributor, is unforgiveable.

A very rare book that brings Heart and Soul as well as Intellect to the reviewing table. In consequence Neitzsche and Schopenhauer are completely debunked, whilst Plato, Socrates, Hume, Kant et al are rightly given their due positions on the high table. Easy to read, easy to digest, fascinating and luminous. This book could save you hundreds of hours you might otherwise have spent unnecessarily wading through dense philosophical tomes. There is nothing else quite like it, when it comes to understanding the western philosophers in an objective context. It is both truly astonishing and a sad reflection of the times that no one else has reviewed this book before.

Lewis a psychiatrist and medical anthropologist who stayed at the Pine Ridge Res in the late 60's and early 70's. From the book: "...he describes the Indian Healers - their techniques, personal histories and qualities, the problems addressed and the results obtained" . This is an excellent book for Native American studies, those interested in non AMA healing techniques and also should be required reading for all med students.

Have you ever had an animal talk to you before? Well, in the book The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, four children, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy find and travel to an imaginary place called Narnia. They leave their home country of London because of air raids were bombing there. So they went to an old professor's house and lived there for a while. The day they came they decided to go and explore the wood and field the next day, but wouldn't you know it began to rain very hard that you couldn't even see the wood or field. They decided to explore the huge house. They went room to room. Until one room with a humongous wardrobe and a dead dragonfly on the window - sill, Lucy thinks to herself that maybe something great is in the wardrobe. She goes in and finds the country Narnia. I thought this book was great and I think you would too. Read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.

I'm German and reading in English takes me somewhat moretime, but with this book I nearly couldn't make a break in reading and during 5 days I spent every night to read some chapters ... until I was "through". This book makes me so curious, makes me thinking so much about the events, whether it's true, whether it's fiction. It made me both: laughing and very often sad. The book gives answers to questions which I never would dare to pose to a disabled person. And the book shows me again, how easy and good live has been to me and how admirable brave others are handling complicated situations - situations that we none disabled even can't imagine. Reading this book I learned/remembered something very important again: "I'll be a (wo)man if I can" more often in future.
