After spending literally thousands of hours reading true crime books, I can say that this is the real thing. I was absolutely thrilled to see that it is available because I am going to make it required reading for the students in my Criminal Investigation classes! They may grumble at first about having another book to read, but when they start on "The Evidence Never Lies", they'll not want to put it down!

As the spouse of an award-winning crime reporter, we found "The Evidence Never Lies" to be a compelling, thought-provoking analysis of the incredible career of Herbert MacDonell. For those whose careers focus on crime, crime buffs, and seekers of great reading, this is a must-buy.

I first found this book in 1992...and it changed my life. I am not kidding. Because of this book, I went on to studying serial killers, profiling and forensics...I was a paralegal major before that. The Evidence Never Lies is one of those treasures that should not be lost....never mind out of print!! I searched for it to see if there were a newer edition; I cannot believe it is out of print. Please Mr. MacDonell, write another like it. It is truly great

No sé si todos los otros números de esta serie han sido traducidos a Español pero ojalá que sí, ya que podría compartir estos cuentos tan bellos con mis sobrinos hispanoparlantes.

Este cuento empieza cuando la pequeña Lucy decide esconderse de sus hermanos en un armario durante un juego a escondidas. Sin querer descubre el mundo de Narnia y sus aventuras empiezan. Conoce a muchos animales y bestias raras pero cuando regresa a contar a sus hermanos lo que había visto, ellos no la creen. Solo llendo todos juntos a Narnia logran creer a su pequeña hermana y allí empiezan sus experiencias incluyendo la gran lucha entre el bien y el mal.

El parecido entre Jesucristo y el león Aslan son obvios pero la história no es escrita de forma muy religiosa, ya que el fín es entretener a los niños (y a muchos adultos) sin uso de doctrina. La lucha entre el bien y el mal, y el amor profundo de Aslan hacia los habitantes de Narnia y los pequeños es el basis de este cuento.

C.S. Lewis nos presenta la historia de Jesucristo en una bella y creativa forma metafórica ideal para el lector infantil, aunque no menos interesante para el lector adulto.

Desde que comienza hasta que termina el libro está inundado de magia y fantasía que extasia y apasiona. La bruja es vívidamente representada en su maldad, y Aslan en su ternura y nobleza. "El hijo del emperador de Ultramar", como es llamado por los agobiados habitantes de Narnia. Narnia es el país al que han accedido los cuatro protagonistas humanos, "hijos de Adán y Eva", a través de un guardarropas o armario en un cuarto vacío. Este es, sin duda, y probablemente siempre lo sea, uno de mis libros favoritos..

I first saw this book on a friend's coffee table, noticing the narrow black and white image, and taking note of the title, I opened the book. My first words were "Oh, my God", the next sentence was "Jesus Christ this book is horrible!" I believe that an image can speak volumes, Without Sanctuary virtually screamed at me. I have an undergraduate degree in African American history and a master's degree in American history, I am extremely familiar with the subject matter portrayed in these pages, but to see that horrifying collection of gruesome images, in a postcard format was almost more than I could handle. In spite of the jarring effect the pics have on the viewer, I feel it is an excellent reference book and sheds valuable insight on the attitudes that formed the historical relationship between blacks and whites in America. I would highly recommend it to all people, especially white people, who often shy away from the more grusome parts of their past.

Once you see the pages, issues like racial profiling, proposition 209, Jasper, Texas, etc., and the continued discrimination of non-white people begins to make more sense.

The title of this book is appropriate too for it speaks to the fact that Black people were literally without sanctuary in the face of a lynch mob.

"Without Sanctuary brings to life one of the darkest and sickest periods in American history. . . . The photographs in this book make real the hideous crimes that were committed against humanity. . . .such atrocities happened in America not so long ago. These photographs bear witness to the hangings, burnings, castrations, and torture of an American holocaust." From the Foreward by Congressman and 1960's Civil Rights Leader, John Lewis. These lynchings are portrayed on picture postcards that were sent to friends and relatives of the lynch mobs. "At a number of country schools the day's routine was delayed until boy and girl pupils could get back from [viewing] the lynched man. . . .The degree to which whites came to accept lynching as justifiable homicide was best revealed in how they learned to differentiate between 'good' and 'bad' lynchings. . . .'The best people of the county, as good as there are anywhere, simply met there and hanged Curl without a sign of rowdyism. There was no drinking, no shooting, no yellings, and not even loud talking.' " The victims were Black and White, Male and Female, Young and Old. Some were burned after hanging, others were burned before hanging. California and Duluth, as well as Mississippi, Alabama and North Carolina lynchings are all represented. Even the Jew, Leo Frank, is photographed. Only 4000 copies of this first edition have been printed. "We must prevent anything like this from ever happening again."

If you are a collector of early photos,and you also collect books on early photo collections,this book is a must as an extremely important part of your collection.It contains several pages of readable text on some noted lynching events in small but sufficient enough detail,descriptions of plates and their photo types in the back,and what other early historical photo collection book are you going such a wealth of this type of portrait?I rate this one up there with Stanley Burn's sleeping beauty(another important photo collector book).There is no doubt that this book is a must!Just get it!

In his final book, David Chandler attempts the impressive feat of rewriting a small part of Revolutionary War history. His style is very popular, and frequently fleshes out details to make them more real for the reader. His thesis -- that Meriwether Lewis (of the Lewis & Clark expedition) was murdered in a conspircy that involved several great men, is necessarily stitched together with facts abetted by circumstantial evidence and conjecture.

It's hard not to like the spirit of the book. it's also hard to ignore that much of the author's case is undocumented and only partially substantiated by footnotes and specific historical detail. What he proposes may very well be correct. Certainly there's enough other interesting information here to make the read worthwhile. (His information on the details of period life is fascinating, like the informal early days of the White House.) One only wishes that the author would have had a chance to buttress is arguments.

One wonders why Meriweather Lewis is buried in a forlorn grave, out of public's sight, just off the Natchez Trace Parkway south of Nashville instead of Arlington Cemetary. Lewis was the John Glenn (the astronaut) of his day! Chandler, the author, broke historical ground in pulling together the intrigues of an intriguing era. The author persuasively shows the possible motives several powerful men may have had in quietly disposing of Lewis. It is significant that the only mention of Lewis being prone to melancholy (suicidal) was a statement by Jefferson. Great reading: International intrigue (Spain), a corrupt General of the Army (Wilkinson), frontier murder, and retired President concerned about his public legacy.
