Holly's Mixed Up Heart
Holly Meredith, 12 going on 13, and her "best friend", Andrea (Andie) Martinez, have been best friends forever. When they were little, they drew up The Loyalty Papers, swore to keep their promise to it, and sealed the deal by trading their dear teddie bears. That was untill they found Jared Wilkins the cool new kid. Holly was desprate to find out exactly what had gon on behind stage when she passed out while singing, on stage, in front of the WHOLE SCHOOL!! But only three people know about what happened. Her "best friend" Andie, her crush Jared, and the worm Tom Sly and all she knows is that someone had or atempted to KISS her! Meanwhile Andie is just soo annoying. Holly knows that Jared likes her and Andie just won't face it. Her fight with Andie and the fight to keep Jared only gets worse. A youth group at church is going to hold auditions to have someone new in the group. Andie has already been promised to get in and is going to accompany Jared's singing on the piano! But Tom Sly fixes Jared up good trying to get in good with the unexpecting Holly Meredith by telling the school principal that Jared and a few other boys where smoking and when that didn't work,he got dirty and didn't catch Jared as he fell off the tampoline and onto the ground breaking his leg. Holly finds out that her most favorite aunt no her dad's side has cancer that eventually kills her. Everything was happening so fast! And after all these years of her divorsed dad's no letters thing she gets one out of the blue inviting her to go and spend the spring break with him and his family. She says yes after not making the group as an attempt to get away from this mess. Everthing seemed hopeless and at lest she get away at her dad's house in California right by the beach. Then she discovers something about Jared. He's been cheating on her and Andie! Her getting in trouble for him didn't seem so worth it right now. So at her birthday, on Valentine's Day, she plots against him at the party which was meant to show Andie that he was such a big cheater. Well, her plan back fires even with her fiends', Billy Hill and Marcia Greene, help. Now Andie is even more mad at her. The only good thing that happens is when a girl from her town Dressel Hills, CO drops out of the youth group and gives her the spot in the group but now she has to tell her dad she see him this spring break because of the trip their going on then. At the trip her dad comes making the night complete. She still can't seem to muster up the courage though to ask The Question about why he left her mom, her sister Carrie, and of course HER! You know when some comes and shows you the way back on the path to God when yo get lost, it feels very good. Her person was the very christion Danny Myers. After quoting a few verses and praying she made it through the rest of the musical. After the play was over they would go on to Disney World. There she got Andie's friendship back when at last she saw Jared with her own eyes, playing footsie with the cutest girl in their class. After telling him off they walked together through the park riding the rides they both wanted to ride on. Holly's nickname was returned to her. Instead of being called Holly-Heartless, her old nickname was back to Holly-Heart. I just love this book!! I really was able to relate to it. I sing, I have a crush, I'm thirteen, and I have had lots of bad experiences with friends. I hope everyone enjoys this book as much as I did.

VERY TOUCHING
This book really touched my soul and made me wonder what I would do if one of my classmates was said to have done something like that. Read it if you need to know what you would do. If your answer is nothing, Merry wil change your mind. One hundred percent-amen-sure.

A Wonderful Story
I love this series and have been waiting for the newest addition for some time. The characters are well-developed; I know them like my best friends. Merry and her mother are both forced to confront their feelings about Faithie, Merry's twin who died when they were seven, and begin to heal together. Merry also must figure out how she feels about Jon and Levi. I would definitely reccomend this book.

Heart-warming
I truly enjoyed this book and the first book in the Heritage of Lancaster County series. Lewis makes the community come alive for the reader. I felt as if I were a member of the community attending church meetings and baking bread. I can't wait to read The Reckoning.
A wonderful moving story
I had the pleasure of visiting Lancaster Co. this summer and then the pleasure of reading not only The Confession but The Shunning and was really suprised to find that alot of what I saw of Lancaster Co. was true and as I read each book I could imagine being right there with the characters. I can't wait to read The Reckoning.
An excellent book. A cliffhanger of sorts.
When I bought these books as a set from Guideposts, it seems like I took a chance. But then I have wanted to read about the Amish. And I'm glad that I did. When I finished The Shunning, I could not wait to start reading The Confession, and then The Reckoning. The Confession taught me to find where your heart is at, even if it means that you have to make sacrifices. In all, it took me four days to read all three books. If there are more fictional books about the Amish, I like to read them. However, I would like to close by saying hello to the Amish and God Bless Them. They are wonderful people.

An adequate, if rushed finale...
I thought that this book seemed a little rushed at the end. By about 1/2 way through, I knew what was going to happen at the end (if not earlier). I thought that it was well written, but some story lines were just dropped--for instance, we never know what Justin's reaction is to Katie's decision, and we never find out more about Katie's life change at the end.
I did like how the Amish quilters were brought into the story. Also, I liked how Daniel was written in. However, I think that it is a little strange how, by the end of the book, a bunch of the Plain people are being "saved". As I said in one of my other reviews, I think there could be a little less preaching going on in the story, but it's ok.
There were emotional sections of the book, but I think that there could possibly be one more book coming in the series. The book ended well, but there were still questions, in my mind...
A worthwhile continuation of Katherine's experiences
If you've read The Shunning and The Confession, you've got to follow up with this new title! As with the first two books in the series, this was a page-turner. While the previous titles left me with a negative feeling toward the Amish (in relation to their beliefs and practices), Lewis digs a little deeper into the hearts of the Amish characters in The Reckoning. In it, she shows that, though under the hand of the order, the men and women are truly individuals who can see the imperfections in the Amish beliefs but still revere the traditions. Also, it's good to see Katherine mature in The Reckoning. She opens her eyes to the world and to the Lord. Just as with the last two, I can't wait to see where Lewis takes Katherine/Katie in the next title in the series.
Great! Good story and keeps you hanging until the end.
While the story is great and I've learned a lot about the Amish community, I felt that the story was ended short. You read the whole book to have Daniel and Katie get together in the end, in the last half of the last chapter. It would have been great if the author would have grown the relationship a litte more and explained in more detail about Katie giving up her mansion and what she did with her money. Also, it would have been great to see if Justin Wirth was really a good guy and really loved Katie enough to give her up in love or was really angry when Katie said "no" to his marriage proposal. I do hope there is a sequel.

One of the BEST books I have read!
I got the first book of this series titled The Shunning, and I must say, I am so excited to get my hands on the other books! I got this book for Christmas and I wasn't sure how I felt about it. But the after the first chapter I read, I couldn't put it down! Katie is a very open-hearted person and didn't want to disapoint her Amish friends and family, but she wanted the forbidden life. I love reading every page and it is a wonderful book! If you get a chance, read it!
Awesome series!
These books are so good they are worth reading again. I especially like book 3, when Katy sees Daniel walking down the street. They are light to read, but have a bit of suspense to make them hard to put down. It was also interesting to learn about the Amish.
A good look into the Amish world
I've read many books but not many have touched me as this one did. In her struggle to find who she really is Katie goes through many trials. But through it all keeps her faith strong. These books are exellent and I recommend them to just about anyone who loves to read.
