A favourite with my son
This book has become a real favourite with my 3 1/2 year old son, and it is one I enjoy reading with him too. It's great for showing that different emotions and personalities are all okay, and my it's fun for kids to choose which child they relate to best.

ABC Adventures with Alice and Aldo
Alice and her pet pony Aldo spend the day adventuring together, having Breakfast in Bed, and Choosing Clothes from the Closet until they Yawn in their Yogurt and sleep all night long...ZZZZ. The story is sweet and surrounding each frame are pictures of objects that start with the letter of the alphabet to which the page is devoted. Some of the pictures seem strange and some are very British (like the cricket bat) but the book is great. My 2 year old loves to point to the picture and say, "What's that Mommy."
Playful Fun
Alice and Aldo are friendly characters who glide through a breezy day with each letter of the alphabet. The book is well written and the illustrations are lovely. My child, at age 2, adored the book and asked a lot of questions about Alice and Aldo and their adventures. Each page shows different items starting with the same letter, and the choices are not old standards but unique words that expand the vocabulary. This would be a good present for a child age 1 1/2 - 3.

Another Lester board book classic
Australian children's author Alison Lester did a series of four books (available overseas as a boxed set) that depict very real little kids in very real situations. Great drawings in the margins too that my son has loved identifying.

Adventures in another culture
This book is about a little boy who fly to Australia where his parents are working. He sends letters to his classmates home in America to let them know of all the things he is doing. My girls loved the story. A very cute book for learning about another culture, in this case the Aborigines of Australia.

Very cute book that my boys love
My two boys, ages 4 and 1, just adore this book. They love seeing what the baby has done when he is bad or grumpy. I think they like it that this book is not scared to admit that at times, babies can be very trying, and sometimes it's a big relief when they get to sleep! The pages when the baby is happy are great too---doing the kinds of things that truly do make babies happy, like riding on Daddy like a horse or "helping" Mama with laundry.

What's it like growing up on an Aussie farm? Read Alison Lester's "My Farm" and you will be captivated by her reminiscences.
You will follow young Alison and her two brothers and sister through the highs (many) and lows (a few) of their young rural lives.
There's lots of Aussie bush humour shining through. Painting clay stripes on an old black horse gives you a "Native Australian Zebra" and entering your Kelpie sheep dog in the dog high jump is all part of the fun.
We are not shielded from the harsher realities of life in the bush. We are threatened by bushfires; round-up runaway cows and we even assist mum to deliver a newborn calf.
We enjoy the bounties of nature and go picking wild blackberries and field mushrooms.
There are some esoteric references to which only Aussies might relate, such as children swinging on the rotary clothesline, best known as the iconic Hills Hoist.
Alison's illustrations have a quirky charm. Faces are simply drawn, but the atmospherics of the landscapes and farm scenes are exquisite.
"My Farm" is the most sophisticated of Alison's works and neatly supplements her other works such as "Bouncing and Bumping" for the younger reader and "Imagine" her most successful book.
Some readers may want a glossary of Aussie terms eg chooks = hens, drover = cowboy, mobs = herd, but these all give a delightful flavour to a book which will have great appeal to all young children.
